Good morning all....a drier and sunnier day here in the Pacific Northwest....Monday will be sunny and dry as well, but by Tuesday, the rains return...ah well, it keeps the grass, which is growing quite rapidly now, quite green...

Well, the anit-war protestors, have been having their protests in Seattle...have not heard from Andy yet, as to whether he has encountered any of them or not...was watching TV the other nite, watching the anti-war protestors in Chicago, blocking Lake Shore Drive...one of my cousins lives on Lake Shore Drive, tho have not heard from him yet, as to what his experiences might have been with them completely closing off Lake Shore Drive...

I lived through the violent skirmishes in Chicago, during the Democratic Convention, when the anti-war protestors, protesting Viet Nam, were at their height, and so very violent...it got so ugly at that time, with protestors throwing bags of urine and feces on the police...they claim they are against the violence of war, and yet are violent themselves...

I do have to say, if one is truly against the war, then so be it...have your opinions, as you are free to do, but remember how and why you have that freedom....

I shudder to think of some of relatives down in California at this point...I can just hear the discussions going on, as they have many wide and varied opinions on this war, and they run the gamut of political ideals...

One of my cousins is a complete pacifist....he was eligible for Viet Nam, in his prime, but said he would not go...he was on the lottery system, and his number never did come up, so the dear aunt Helen breathed a sigh of relief...because we all knew, that my cousin would not go, but he would not run away either, like to Canada.....he said he would go to jail, rather than fight in Viet Nam....he really is a pacifist...hes a dear quiet gentle man, to whom violence of any sort is repulsive...thats just how he is...but neither does he chose to march and protest, and undermine the cause of a war...he just does chose not to fight, no matter what...some would call him a coward, but thats just how he is...yet his brother, was willing to fight in Viet Nam....so there you have it...two brothers, at quite opposite ends of the spectrum....

Grannie...lovely pic for all of us and for all our troops...

Loddy....I dont know what is up with people having to grocery shop together...I see it all the time also...
I was quite independent when I married BigDom, and right from the beginning of our marriage we did some things together and some things separately...and its always been that way....even when we had the boys, sometimes if I wanted to go to a museum, or the zoo, but BigDom wanted to watch a football game on TV, well, I took the kids and he stayed home...on the other hand, sometimes he wanted to take the boys to a sport event(which I always find boring), or wanted to take the boys to the movies(I cannot stand going to a movie theatre), well then he took them, and I stayed home and enjoyed the silence...

And with BigDom in the military, and so very often he was not around, I became mom and dad to the boys...thats just the way it was, and most military wives gladly take up that chore...its just part of what you know you have to do, when the hubby is in the military...

So while we are thinking of all the brave military members today, in their quest to free Iraq, its also worthwhile to think of their spouses and their children who are also contributing to this war effort...the moms are doing their best to take up the dads role(or vice versa where the military member is the wife), and the children are doing their best to stay strong as they know their dads(or moms) are most certainly in harms way, and may not make it home...

The burden placed upon the military spouses and the military children is great, and they are sacrificing much and they do it without question, so that their military spouse can concentrate on the task he has ahead of him...
Support for the military families is so very important...

These protestors really do hurt the miltiary family...to hear their military mom or dad called 'killers' and worse is just horrible...but military families are strong, and unfortunately, they have to learn to live with this...

BigDom was so proud to have been part of the military for so long, so proud of being able to say, that he was willing to fight and die, if called upon...(pardon me for bragging just a little, but as you can tell, I am just so proud of my BigDom)

Brag away, it's an earned right.
Besides- he's yours to brag over, right?
*Is indeed encouraging smugness.*

Well, time for me to go do the grocery shopping, a chore I absolutely detest...I just wish I could 'think' the food into the house, instead of having to trudge over to the gruesome grocery store...

I wonder if I will meet any protestors over there...I hate to get into it with anyone, as I am generally quite reserved in public...we shall see...

See Ya later...

Heck, I miss my days in uniform.
I do not, however, miss my old captain.
I miss the fire and the fury, the smoke and the rumble of it all.

My sister has M&M's minis at the moment, and there's a triangular one in there. Looks like a chocolate Imitrex.

God I'm hallucinating...

Good afternoon out there.

I hope that the trip to the grocer was uneventful and protester-free. Luckily, we live in a part of town that even if someone objected to this war, they would also have the good sense not to protest lest they get the crap bitch-slapped from their sorry *sses. Lots of vets and retired military in this 'hood.

You've every right to be proud of your man, and of yourself, for all the sacrifices that you were called on in your service to our country. I can only imagine how tough some days must have been, but you sucked it up and did what had to be done, and now you can look back on them as some of the finest days of your lives with great pride and joy. No one can take that away from you.

It's my honor to call you my internet friends.

Cheers.

To: Darksheare; everyone

American troops have defeated Iraqi forces at Nasiriyah in the sharpest engagement of war so far, claims US Central Command.

Milan anti-tank weapon.
Useful against bunkers as well.
Creates a shockwave that kills everyone inside.

Hope the guys on the receiving end had the good sense to run FAST.

Morning Darks - where the heck's everyone?

I thought that was an amazing picture...are the forward guys spotters, or what are they doing ahead of the weapons?

They're somewhat to the left and keeping an eye on things.
The Milan is a Brit weapon, and I'm not entirely sure of how a Milan team works, but I'm guessing that they work something like a TOW Missile team.
There's a gunner and a spotter.
The spotter's job is to eyeball things and make sure there's nothing close enough to pose a 'serious' threat to the team. He also has his weapon at the ready to tag anyone foolish enough to play whack-a-mole.

The gunner targets and fires the weapon, and in the case of a TOW missile, guides it via a small joystick. Not sure if the Milan works the same way.

Kinda neat weaponry though.
The Brits discovered during the Falklands war that the Milan makes a nice bunker buster.

Indeed, where is everyone?.....where is the trusty AC with his morning intro to the thread....Where is Grannie with her snappy pics....

I noticed that the Freeoples Thread also seems to have very few postings....

Everyone perhaps is on more serious threads, about the war, or glued to the Tv, watching the continuous news, which often includes 'breaking' news, and sometimes if one is on the computer, they dont get to see the events of the war unfolding as they happen....

I dont know where everyone is, just hope that everyone is well and healthy...
