Okra is part of the food pyramid in Texas. Southern breaded and fried okra or as a thickener in gumbo. I love okra.
I suggest a curry preparation or a tika masala style.
Check the webz for recipes.

You’ve never eaten okra? You’re not from the south are you? That’s OK, but know there are only 2 ways to cook okra.
1. In a gumbo
2. Fried.
The other day, my wife used the air fryer to fry okra. It turned out really, really good. There are recipes online; find one and try it out.
Turkey sandwiches for the next month. 😎
Cook with onions and peppers in a skillet until it gets slimy. Put it in a pyrex dish and sprinkle in parmesan cheese. Bake it until it isn’t slimy. Some people add Italian bread crumbs or corn meal/flour
Hi there!! So nice to see you. This should be a nice thread.

We host Thanksgiving here, my wife’s family likes salmon and pea salad so they mix it up and eat it. Even the smell is horrible and the taste is just about unGodly.
Almost all sit down restaurants and some drive ins here in Oklahoma serve it deep fried. I can take it or leave it. It tastes good, it’s just not on my wish list. Otherwise, we pretty much have the same thing every Thanksgiving. I’m in charge of the corn pudding and mac and cheese. Found a new way to make mac and cheese. I usually make a white sauce, then layer in American cheese, but lately, for a quick side dish, I’ve been, believe it or not, using boxed mac and cheese, to which I add parmesan, American, and cheddar cheese, then, for one box, I use half a 15 oz jar of Alfredo sauce plus the recommended amount of milk. It tastes nothing like boxed mac and cheese. It’s delicious, if I say so. I cook the macaroni a little extra so its not stiff.
I grow my own and grill it whole on skewers. Marinated in Italian dressing.
bkm- looking for good pie recipes...
I am searching for a good BBQ joint here in Central Florida. I am trying one nearby that has great ratings. I just got back and got St Louis Ribs, sliced Smoked Turkey and fried Okra. Fried is my favorite for okra.
When I first traveled the South years ago, I took a liking to okra and tomatoes as a side dish. To duplicate that back home, I just took a couple of cans of stewed tomatoes with the liquid and let frozen okra simmer in it until tender. That might not be the way it is made in the South, but it tasted the same to me.
In case anyone’s looking, I can attest that this is THE BEST cranberry sauce recipe you’ve ever tried. Easy and so perfectly balanced.

If you run out of okra try cactus, cactus is a little similar.
After reading three pages of okra, salmon, mac n cheese and turkeys on fire, I’m not feeling so bad about my plan to have leg of lamb.
$7/lb and just the right amount for me and my son. Green bean casserole will be one side and roasted potatoes another.
You can get breaded okra in the freezer section. Follow directions on the bag. Either that or slice it into small circles, roll it in corn meal, put it on a cookie sheet, place in 400 degree oven until crispy.
You can grow your own.

Im from the South. Only two ways we eat Okra in GA. Fried or stewed with corn and tomatoes. For Thanksgiving I’d go with Fried.
