Cracker Barrel (“CB”) recently announced with great pride (pun intended) that they have become woke and are implementing customer-facing DEI throughout their restaurant chain, a project that has been in the works for about a year. Proving once more that idealistic leftists are oblivious to anything remotely involving sanity.
The Left never seems to learn. Their DEI agenda is so important that they willingly crater their own businesses. Even Left-leaning news channels and their famous anchors have learned that they are not immune to this effect. I have doubts about the success of this new direction, for a couple of reasons.
1) Woke people who pretend to live healthy lives don't eat there anyway -- you know, because of the biscuits, gravy, fried chicken, calories, fat, etc., where just one glass of sweet tea likely has more calories than they consume in a day. Somehow CB thinks taking the "country" out of Cracker Barrel, removing the old white dude and his barrel from the logo, and making the decor look like a latte cafe will entice them in. (I have a bridge to sell you).
2) Their loyal fans, including me, have no interest in overall DEI wokeness when it is an in-your-face action. Hire whoever you wish, as I don’t care about the proclivities of my server or the cook, so no problem there. But I do care about the thinking of leaders who believe this is a good direction to pursue as a business. I admit I limit my meals there to no more than one per quarter just because I get three days’ worth of calories in one very delicious meal.
CB will lose a big part of their base while not recouping that volume with new customers from the woke mob.

I've eaten there twice, both on the road with my daughter's AAU basketball team. Over 20 years ago. I like comfort food, but it was not edible, just too salty. Their new logo seems like Golden Corral, another place I cannot go.
Now I understand why my last meal there was horrid

I LOVE IT. Target went for years insulting their customer base and nothing happened to their stock - now stock holders know that they’re ONE TWEET (Trump Tweet) away from taking a bath if they don’t get out quickly, so they did.
The question now is whether they can recover. Us conservatives are a forgiving bunch, so if they fire the right people, apologize, and try to reconstruct their restaurants (at least go back to the old logo), they might survive this. Otherwise, they’ll be like Bud Lite, with conservatives looking funny at them every time we see them.

Her hero must be Mary Barra who is steering GM towards a similar cliff. GM vehicles built in the 202x years are crap. GM refuses to acknowledge issues and when they do it takes years for a fix to be available. Ford seems to be doing the same.
CB doesn’t need change, stick with the basics and improve on that.

I don’t think is quite as bad as Bud Light but the point about getting rid of the old white guy is valid. I don’t see how anyone can think the logo is bad or racist. In my mind it brings up images of a bunch of old folks sitting around a general store and shooting the breeze. That’s not a bad image to have if you’re audience is old people. Unless it’s old queers.
Never a good idea to hire a Karen for you CEO who hates your business.
The Cracker Barrel near me has not yet changed decor so I'm still good with them.
