I was reading over the Executive order renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America and saw this section:
Sec. 5. Additional Action. The Secretary of Interior may solicit public and intergovernmental input regarding additional patriots to honor, particularly in light of America’s semiquincentennial celebration, and shall recommend action to me, through the Assistant to the President for Domestic Policy.
So my question is...what else can we recommend to be renamed? I think we've become so used to having the left rename things with little to no blowback that we think it's not important. But it is. Remember they renamed all the squaw things. WE don't have to go back to that but why not rename them with patriot names instead?
That literally made me laugh out loud!
An immediately one that comes to mind is fixing the name for Clingman’s Dome.
The Smokies having been a favorite family vacation spot since I was a child, and this being a particular location to visit on many of those vacations, it would personally make me happy.
The city of Phuket, Thailand may want to jump on this relabeling bandwagon too!
Maybe they could trade names with an American city named
Nantucket.
California
Reagan Valley, Nixon Valley, Colonial Valley, Patriot Valley. The choices are endless.
They great wall of Chy-na.
Put the military bases back to their real names. Get rid of President Joseph R. Biden Highway that goes through Scranton, put it back to Route 81.
The Sears tower name is related purely to private ownership naming rights. And now that Sears is essentially defunct I don’t see them having a lot of “pull” in getting it renamed.
CC
“Harry Reid International Airport”, PLEASE!
Every building or road named after KKK Senator Robert Byrd.
There were "Squaw Valleys" (and Squaw Peaks, and Squaw Lakes, etc.) all over the place, many of which have been renamed. It wasn't the Indians that clamored for the change, it was the White liberals. Change 'em all back, is what I say. It's part of our history.
I think that “The Gulf of the Americas” would be the most fitting name since it separates North and South America.
Eastern Washington University should go back from “Eagles” to “Savages”. I was going to school there when the Board of Trustees made the change. The native American Indians were the most upset with the change.
Private companies can call it whatever they want, but Trump could issue an EO to direct federal agencies to call it Sears Tower or something like Liberty Tower.
I’m not joking.
And don’t call me Shirley.
I couldn’t resist :)
I wonder if Elon and the DOGE will put the kibosh on this renaming business?
“Changing the maps and signs will cost too much.”
Here in Seattle they changed the name of King County awhile ago. They changed it to King County. But now named after MLK, rather than the name of the Vice President(?) when we became a state. A white guy. They had to change all of the signage and emblems and letterhead.
They all had symbols of a crown - now it is an outline of MLK’s head. I forget how many hundreds of thousands of dollars that cost.
That disease's long proper name was one that I undertook as a small child to learn how to say. Antidisestablishmentarianism was another, but nowhere as long as Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanokoniosis which at least at that time (late 50's) was the longest English work in common use.
BTW I completely agree with you about the renaming.
ICWYDT. Washington DICKS indeed.
Keep Grand Teton national park in Wyoming. It was named by French-Canadian and American trappers in the early 1800s before Lewis and Clark’s trek. And after.
In French, it means “Big Tits”.
And don’t call me Shirley!
