I’ve researched the carnivore diet, and meat provides all the essential amino acids and vitamins the body needs. It also provides essential fats required for energy without elevating insulin levels used to burn carbohydrates like sugar. Some essential vitamins like D3 must be supplemented in climates with reduced sunlight.

What I like about eliminating grains, bread, rice, and sugar is the reduction in bloating and abdominal inflammation from microbiome fermentation.

Not all protein is alike.
There is animal protein and plant protein.
Even Jello is protein but it lacks an essential amino acid, tryptophan which makes it an incomplete protein.
Most plant based proteins are incomplete. If they are based on milk they are more balanced.
The perfect protein, with all the essential amino acids in the right proportions, is an egg.

So just because a product says it supplies so many grams of protein, it does not mean your body can use it.

2 grams per pound of ideal body weight is getting into “too much”.

at least that’s what I read a while back when I looked into it.

I seldom get enough protein. I have you work at it.

I use whey protein shakes which has 30mg of protein then a few other things to bring it to the recommended 60mg’s. Just saying.

Can I eat an all-protein diet? Yes, technically you could. But it wouldn’t be good for you.

Dr. Jordan Peterson is pretty much on an all-red meat diet for several years and he looks good, and says he feels fine. There's some fat in there, but I guarantee you he's getting more than a few ounces or protein a day.

I was aiming for 95-120g protein per day. Then the nutritionist I saw said as you age your ability to digest protein diminishes. He recommended I aim for 95-140g per day.

Most people need more collagen and glycine. Collagen is 38% glycine, but even more is needed. Costco has a tasty organic bone broth, and collagen pills. I also include 4g of glycine in a mix of supplements.

My cat normally ate chicken. I would give him some canned cat food with some greens in it occasionally.

Your foods are either proteins, carbohydrates and fats. If you want to stay healthy and slim, proteins and fats are the way to go. Carbs like bread, pasta, doughnuts, etc . . lead to weight gain and diabetes. So minimize the carbs. Which reminds me, it’s ice cream time.

“The healthiest options for protein are generally from plant sources”

Total hogwash. Out bodies break down protein into amino acids, then construct the protein we need. Plants have the wrong mixture of amino acids, so a lot of left over. Bioavailability is around 50-60%, versus nearly 100% with beef.

Whoever lumped Keto in here doesn’t know what they’re talking about. Keto is supposed to be high fat, moderate protein, and low carbohydrates.

The reason for this is that the body can break protein down into carbohydrates. To get the body burning fat, it has to have low enough carbohydrates to fall back on that.

“Soy”

Absolutely not.

Soy contains isoflavones, which are structurally similar to estrogen.

I’m about 160 pounds and 71 years old. I’ve read that at that weight and age I need about 100 grams of protein a day.

I can read on a label that a scoop of protein powder is about 30 grams of protein.

How many grams of protein is in a handful of nuts. or chicken breast/leg/thigh, hamburger, a quarter cup of beans, a chicken egg, a cup of milk.

Food fads come and go. My Sister-in-law told me that in 1960 ADDED GLUTEN in baked goods was all the rage. Now it is “bad” for you.

I'm a big fan of the ‘Alone” tv series. What I've learned from the survivors is:

1. Protein alone is not enough to sustain life, protein and fiber are not enough to sustain life
2. A person could eat rabbit every day and within 3 months starve to death, There is very little fat on a rabbit (the guy who killed a musk ox had all the meat he could eat but was starving because a badger stole the fat, so his body began to cannibalize itself)
3. Fat intake is needed to retain muscle while shedding bodyfat. had fish been plentiful for the entire period, everyone would have lost fat while retaining muscle. The best fish is salmon since it has a high fat content

The math: Protein yields 4 calories per gram; digesting 1 gram of protein expends 1.5 calories per gram for a net gain of 2.5 calories; digesting 100 grams of protein expends 40-150 calories depending on type of meat. Fat yields 9 calories per gram; digesting 1 gram of fat expends 0.03 calories for a net gain of 8.97 calories; digesting 100 grams of fat expends 30 calories. 100 grams is approximately 3-1/2 ounces. 3-1/2 ounces of cooked beef steak yields 192 calories, 21 grams of protein and 11.5 grams of fat before digestion.Fat takes much longer to digest than protein so is more hunger appeasing.
