Drinking just one alcoholic beverage per day shortens your lifespan by this insane amount
NY Post ^ | 7/06/24 | Brooke Kato

This is such a buzz kill.

As it turns out, consuming just one alcoholic beverage per day — whether it be a pint of beer, a glass of wine or a shot of your favorite spirit — can shorten your lifespan by approximately two-and-a-half months, one expert asserts

Dr. Tim Stockwell, of the Canadian Institute for Substance Use Research, told Daily Mail that those who drink significantly more alcohol than that — about 35 beverages a week — could slash a staggering two years off their lifespan.

It’s a rude awakening for those who might like to unwind with a glass of pinot after a long day, or who frequent happy hours with friends or colleagues.

“Alcohol is our favorite recreational drug. We use it for pleasure and relaxation, and the last thing we want to hear is that it causes any harm,” he said. “It’s comforting to think that drinking is good for our health, but unfortunately, it’s based on poor science.”

Unfortunately, according to the doc, no amount of alcohol is safe for boozers — and his claims are backed up by science.

Recent research has shown that alcohol consumption could increase the risk of certain health conditions, such as cancer, heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, liver disease and more, per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

I should have died about 20 years ago, in my 20’s then.

And, just FYI, but caffeine is the most abused drug on the planet.

Moderate drinking is good. Science!

Moderate drinking is deadly. Science!

Eggs, coffee, meat, wine, rice, and on and on MSM always reports a study that tells you to do whatever benefits their overlords.

Science is a method. “The Science” is just compliance training.

"Drinking something that can cause you pass out and die is not a considered a health drink."
Here you go - don't drink too much water and if you're in Mexico don't drink any water at all. I recommend Corona - La Cerveza Mas Fino En Todo El Mundo - but I don't go to Mexico anymore. Period. ;-)

----------------- I knew this but this so so much easier with these things called facts.

Can drinking excessive amounts of pure water kill you?

ChatGPT

Yes, drinking excessive amounts of pure water can be fatal. This condition is known as water intoxication or hyponatremia.

It occurs when the balance of electrolytes in your body is disrupted by a large intake of water, which dilutes the sodium levels in your blood. Sodium is crucial for maintaining fluid balance in and around cells, and a significant drop in sodium levels can lead to severe health issues.

Symptoms of water intoxication include headache, nausea, vomiting, confusion, seizures, and in severe cases, coma and death. The kidneys of a healthy adult can excrete about 0.8 to 1.0 liters of water per hour, so consuming water much faster than this rate can overwhelm the body's ability to maintain the proper balance of fluids and electrolytes.

So - Not a doc but more than a half a litre of pure water per hour can be fatal. Don't know why but I can easily put 3X that amount of Corona away and be fine. Not to mention the Tequila.

;-)

If it's a linear function, then I'll be losing about 5 months.

It's a fair swap.

You're comparing drinking too much water to brutal alcohol related carnage? Graveyards are full of drunks and their victims. Tell me, among the dead, what do you think the percentage is from those who drank too much water?

Everyone I know who died young didn’t drink or smoke.

I don’t drink or smoke, and I’ve had the big-C twice now.

Cristiano Ronaldo has never consumed any alcohol, soft drinks of any kind, never used tobacco of any type, and has always eaten healthy foods.

Whenever there are Cokes on the table when he interviews, he removes them and puts them under the table.

He donates blood twice per year and does many charitable acts. He was once asked for a signed jersey to help raise money for a young child. His response was to pay for the entire operation from his own pocket.

Really?

Jeez you're actually quoting Hiden Biden to make a failed point?

No. Facts are facts. The truth is that you are confused in that regard. Heh. Now drop it. I don't do flame wars.

No, I always go with the facts and its Tunehead54 draganet, sir (due your elderly status) ...

This was actually kind a of a PSA because yes you can OD on water especially if you're severely dehydrated from the start. Thought you'd say thanks. You're welcome, anyways.

And with the world in its current state who couldn't use a drink? Night.

Me too. When I was there I was a member of their wine club. You’d get a selection of wines quarterly and since I was local I could pick them up instead of having them shipped.

One time, when I was picking up my wines at the winery, it was during the fall “crush”. One of the staff walked into the tasting room with the freshly squeezed grape juice. I forget the variety (a red), but it was exactly the same as the wine on which I was just taking delivery. It was really cool to get a side-by-side before and after. All that time and effort to take that juice and turn it into a fine wine.
