This is such a buzz kill.
As it turns out, consuming just one alcoholic beverage per day — whether it be a pint of beer, a glass of wine or a shot of your favorite spirit — can shorten your lifespan by approximately two-and-a-half months, one expert asserts
Dr. Tim Stockwell, of the Canadian Institute for Substance Use Research, told Daily Mail that those who drink significantly more alcohol than that — about 35 beverages a week — could slash a staggering two years off their lifespan.
It’s a rude awakening for those who might like to unwind with a glass of pinot after a long day, or who frequent happy hours with friends or colleagues.
“Alcohol is our favorite recreational drug. We use it for pleasure and relaxation, and the last thing we want to hear is that it causes any harm,” he said. “It’s comforting to think that drinking is good for our health, but unfortunately, it’s based on poor science.”
Unfortunately, according to the doc, no amount of alcohol is safe for boozers — and his claims are backed up by science.
Recent research has shown that alcohol consumption could increase the risk of certain health conditions, such as cancer, heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, liver disease and more, per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

I’m surprised the numbers aren’t greater. And the kind of long-term studies or data to get such results are notoriously hard to impossible to control for other factors.
This has everything. Canadian do gooder socialist expert, unsourced research conclusions, all published in a tabloid rag.
I guess it’s time for me to panic.
I lived in Napa for 2014-15. Long story.
Winemakers “drink” all day every day. I put the word drink in quotes because they would really just taste and spit. But that said, they had to be constantly running a low BAC. Every day. But they never over indulged either.
Here’s the age at which some famous winemakers died.
Robert Mondavi 94.
Peter Mondavi 101. (I have a photo of him at an event)
Less well known younger brother of Robert
Warren Winiarski 95.
Made the cabernet sauvignon that won at the “Judgment of Paris”
Mike Grgich 100. (I have a photo of him at an event)
Made the chardonay that won at the “Judgment of Paris”
André Tchelistcheff 94
“dean of American winemakers”
Seems like constant alcohol consumption was not a death sentence for these guys.
"All-cause mortality" includes many events that could be directly or indirectly related to drinking. DUI accidents, suicide, fighting, falling, or merely being in a bar rather than at home in bed and thus becoming a victim of a crime or accident. It's no surprise that someone who drinks 35 drinks per week might live a shorter life, especially considering most of their drinking probably happens on the weekend. It could be 3 drinks a night on work nights and 10 a night on weekends...
And that 1 dink per day is for women. For men it's 2. Not sure if that extrapolates to the 35/week.
I come from a family of alcoholics, and they basically hate me for having that glass of beer and quitting.
addicts always want others to partake of their addiction.
If the spouse would only do drink, drugs, hoarding, etc. They are the problem.
that last 2 1/2 years really suck anyway.
I’d rather be happy NOW!
Gee, as an expert from Texas, I’d say,”That there is some Bull Shiite!”
I love Grgich Chardonnay. We visited their winery a few years ago. It was quite a treat.

So you say.
My smart MD went to med school in Nigeria and didn’t tell me to get a vax.

Not so lucky here. I will name names, UHC United Health Care doctors refused me Ivermectin, one young punk doctor told me take the clot shot or I would die, and the same with Emory, both out of Atlanta.
The pure evil in our medical and health companies runs rampant. They have much blood on their hands.
That's about what Churchill drank.
I'm about his size, I worked almost as hard, I'm in the neighborhood of his intellect (maybe the suburbs), I like to think I'm close to his wit. And, I DON'T smoke cigars. So, I think 99 is reachable.
These things are always written by teetotalers that despise alcohol. Look for the worst, identify it, then demonize it.
That’s being said, everything in moderation.
Almost 80. A glass of wine a day for 60 years in exchange for a few months probably of decline, debility, maybe pain and loss at the very end of life ?
Sure. Why not.
Anyone who drinks a glass or more of water per day most likely will not live to be a 100. Ok I’ll quit now.
The real killer is chronic stress.
More seriously, 1 drink per day for 50 years reducing your lifespan by 2.5 months averages to six minutes per drink. You spent more of your life pouring and drinking it than you lost at the end.
Good. I’m ready for the next stage.
