This is an ongoing thread – meaning come back to chat, post information, or ask questions any time. Hopefully the thread won’t stagnate and I’ll do better at posting weekly (or bi-weekly) topics than I have in the past. (anyone willing to post a topic now and then we'll be highly praised and appreciated).
We are in for some bumpy rides, and prepping can only help. If for peace of mind, if nothing else. We have a wonderful gardening thread and a current-events survival/prepping thread, and hopefully this one can piggyback off of those, maybe having a longer discussion about certain topics or … whatever. It's your thread, do what you like with it! (civilly, of course)
Here are granny’s threads, if anyone wants to peruse them:

Thanks for the tips! I’m leaning toward the really THICK stuff. Yum! :)
Judy,Finally found the post that I was thinking about and it’s horse chestnut not just a nut. But Here is the post
<><>
For laundry detergent, there are a few plants that can work. The one I recommend most is horse chestnut. The nuts are NOT edible, but they have such a high saponin content that they’re basically nature’s Tide pods.
Yucca and soapwort are also good soap plants to know.

If she says it, I believe it!
Dr. Elmer has been SUCH a blessing to us! She is simply amazing. Truly gifted when it comes to animals and their healthcare. She’s seen it all...and pretty much done it all.
And she works on everything from the meanest Bull to the tiniest little Teacup Poodle. We love her. :)
That sounds really good. Thank you.
It’s hog boiling time.
Of course, saw the movie and read the book. Wish I hadn’t read the book.
“It will be on either the top or bottom shelf as it does not have the advertising budget or mark up.”
I didn’t know that’s why items like this didn’t get a priority position. I do tend to find myself crawling on the floor, looking at the items on the bottom. Since I’m cheap I guess.
Fried GT . Yes book excellent also
In Ohio had a FGT ladies sleep over party. Country Inn n Suites. Got three rooms for 8 of us. Used breakfast room for evening.
Had southern meal . BBQ, grits, slaw, hush puppies and fried Green tomatoes. ladies asked to dress era. (30s 40s) Very creative gals. Prize for winner paperback snd DVD of whistle stop snd FGT. I was surprised only one lady had seen it. None read book
We used the pool n hot tub, ate, watched movie. Had dessert/ red velvet cake n second feature - Somewhere in Time.for those wanting to stay up later. All did.
Your fur kids are gorgeous! My last pooch was a Beagle. Off the streets rescue named her Lucy. She was an older pup and very sweet and devoted. Smallest one of four I had. Others were two German shepherds and one golden retriever
Just got Back from running errands. Included was grocery store stop. And I found and bought some Arm & Hammer soda wash. I already had oxy clean and Borox in my stash
If it is on the end cap it is either on sale or a high markup item. If it is at eye level it is a high mark up item.
Those two places are considered the most desirable real estate in the market. That is where the name brand stuff lives. Stores count on people being in a hurry and buying the first thing they see that matches their needs. High may be cheaper but low is where the real value items are.
That and on the damaged/out of season rack.
I have never gone over 48 hours but I see no reason why you shouldn't. At that point it is yogurt "cheese".
Some of the whey can be kept to make your next batch. You can also freeze it for future use.
Give the rest to your pigs. They will think they went to piggy heaven.
Thanks! :)

This is great to know, this is going to change my shopping routine. I’m going to continue to squat on the floor looking for deals! I’m short but I have been known to climb on the shelves a bit to reach the upper ones. lol

I don’t suppose you can make ricotta with it, since it has the yogurt bacteria in it?
Never tried it. I suppose it would be possible not sure about the flavor through.
“That means they are moving things around, phasing out certain things and bringing new ones in. You can often get quite good bargains. “
I thought when they moved things around it was so people would wander around more and buy impulse items. I didn’t realize they were phasing things in and out. I’ll have to pay better attention.
It seems like it and resets are designed to make you buy more through the science of food market design. But there is another more practical reason for it. Every store has a bunch of new brands, new flavors that are moving in and things that are just not selling as well any more that are moving out and it is not a random event but one that is well planned out.
Stores generally have a seasonal reset, sometimes called a mini reset about three times a year and a big reset once a year. The big one is the one you want to keep an eye out for.
Lol, Dolly, that happens to me at my son’s home up in Jersey when we visit. There’s a laundromat but I have avoided it by packing extra. You’re right—it’s more convenient than the alternative!
Thank you. That sounds really good. I will try it. I gave most of the chickpeas away. Will pass along the idea of using them instead of refried beans, too.
