Roman Pompeiian genome sequenced

Scientists have successfully sequenced human genome from an individual who died in Pompeii, Italy, after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79.

The researchers examined the remains of two individuals who were found in the House of the Craftsman in Pompeii and extracted their DNA. The shape, structure, and length of the skeletons indicated that one set of remains belonged to a male who was aged between 35 to 40 years at the time of his death, while the other set of remains belonged to a female aged over 50 years old.

Although the authors were able to extract and sequence ancient DNA from both individuals, they were only able to sequence the entire genome from the male’s remains due to gaps in the sequences obtained from the female’s remains.

Comparisons of the male individual’s DNA with DNA obtained from 1,030 other ancient and 471 modern western Eurasian individuals suggested that his DNA shared the most similarities with modern central Italians and other individuals who lived in Italy during the Roman Imperial age.

However, analyses of the male individual’s mitochondrial and Y chromosome DNA also identified groups of genes that are commonly found in those from the island of Sardinia, but not among other individuals who lived in Italy during the Roman Imperial age. This suggests that there may have been high levels of genetic diversity across the Italian Peninsula during this time.

Additional analyses of the male individual’s skeleton and DNA identified lesions in one of the vertebrae and DNA sequences that are commonly found in Mycobacterium, the group of bacteria that the tuberculosis-causing bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis belongs to. This suggests that the individual may have been affected by tuberculosis prior to his death.

Racism did not exist back then. They figured skin color was simply an effect of where you lived. Not a lot of really black people due to the Sahara desert separating people. Egypt is the one exception because you had movement on the Nile deep into Africa.

I suspect Islam played a big role in the birth of racism since it embraces slavery and makes Moslems believe they are superior to everyone else. In Arabic the word for black and slave is the same word. You won't see that on the wiki however, the first thing it does is blames Americans according to the leftist narrative.

Proficient plagiarizers too, but that might be just an Arab thing in general. Actually, a regional Asian thing. The Great Works... the great works of others...

Arabic numeral system... nonsense. Previously, the Hindus gave rise to the concept of zero which facilitated easier expressions comprising the glyphs 1..9

I don’t hold anything against the Arabs save the false claims. Islam is different matter — it’s a war plan.

You have to dig really deep to get the truth about Islam. The religion itself demands that it be lied about to boost the image of how great it is. That is why you get all these wierd conspiracy theories about 911. Islam wants to take credit for that and yet blame someone else at the same time!

In my view, Islam is a war plan, and Mohammed was a formidable leader and warrior. And that’s not to endorse the outcome, but to speak to the reality of his mission. And lying is part of Islam’s mission statement.

Interesting. I am not sure why there is any surprise at genetic diversity in Italia at that time. It was always a homogeneous area without an indigenous core population.

From the site, this was interesting also:

The population of Pompeii was fairly cosmopolitan. It was an old settlenment, going back to the republican era.

Sardinian DNA is not surprising. The Ice Man Otzi had it too.

Also the New Testament describes places of great diversity during the early decades of Christianity.

Yes. muslims imported far more slaves into arabia than they ever did to the Americas.

No race problem in Saudi Arabia, though...

Not just castrated, fully emasculated, nothing between the anus and umbilicus but a kelcoid scar with a small hole to pee.

Then to add insult to injury, they made a lot of them harem guards...

The genome sequence was actually B-B-Q-D.
