Racism did not exist back then. They figured skin color was simply an effect of where you lived. Not a lot of really black people due to the Sahara desert separating people. Egypt is the one exception because you had movement on the Nile deep into Africa.

I suspect Islam played a big role in the birth of racism since it embraces slavery and makes Moslems believe they are superior to everyone else. In Arabic the word for black and slave is the same word. You won't see that on the wiki however, the first thing it does is blames Americans according to the leftist narrative.

Interesting. I am not sure why there is any surprise at genetic diversity in Italia at that time. It was always a homogeneous area without an indigenous core population.

The population of Pompeii was fairly cosmopolitan. It was an old settlenment, going back to the republican era.
