Meteorites are not ‘flaming rocks of doom,' NASA says
The “bright fireball” was traveling at 35,000 mph when it exploded at 8:03 a.m. with the “energy equivalent of 3 tons of TNT,” according to NASA Meteor Watch, the agency's project that tracks fireball activity.
“Existing law states that any meteorites belong to the owner of the property on which they fell; out of respect for the privacy of those in the area, we will not disclose the locations of these finds,”
And finding anything of value is likely harder than you think.
“The pieces from this object were way too small to leave a crater. Unlike what you see in the movies, meteorites are not ‘flaming rocks of doom’ that blast holes in the ground. In fact, you can pick one up right after it hits ground. So no smoking rocks in small craters.”

“I wish I could afford one that worked!!”
Join the throngs; VW Bugs and Beetles are increasingly coveted cars. You want HARD to get? Try for a Karmann Ghia.
There’s a regular VW/Porsche klatch here in Concord, CA that draws in Bugs, and Ghias, VW Vans, and Porsches of all types, and they entirely take over a park that covers maybe 10-15 acres. These vehicles have a huge and very devoted following that values them highly driving their value up for all the rest of us, too.
There was a 1973 Kharman Ghia sitting abandoned next to route 209 on the way towards mountaindale ny.
Don’t know if it is still there.
That was near 27 years ago when I last saw it.

“There’s something in the air
Burning ions in the oxygen are all aglow
A feeling everywhere
Premonitions of the storm that comes
But I won’t go”
He had just activated the Devi, hoped it would be a recall program he’d prodded, and pushed maximum power into the... contraption for lack of a better term.
The device, or Devi as his team had taken to calling it, appeared to be a small part of a larger whole.
It was littered with smartdust, appeared to writhe and wriggle when not being directly looked at, and was supremely close-lipped compared to other smartdust he’d.
Spoken to?
No matter now, his team was dead and he had no other options left but to hit the Devi with massive amounts of power and see if it would help current matters either by blowing everything into atomized dust in a massive energy emission or tearing everything asunder in an uncontrolled n-space rip.
The assault force that had murdered his colleagues were forcing the door behind him as he “hit the throttle”.
His efforts were rewarded with the airglow of heavy ionization and his stomach felt like he’d been tipped over the edge of abyss, violently.
Somewhere in the back of his mind the thought occurred to him that this was a horrifically terrible idea.
Might have been the fact that he could see himselves everywhere as he fell through realities, catching glimpses of things happening that he shouldn’t have been able to see or know.
Could have been seeing the assault force both murder him and miss catching him simultaneously, a Shroedinger’s deadman flailing through madness and mist.
Or it simply could have been that the very second the Devi tore space asunder he knew instantly what he would come face to face with.
And he wasn’t sure that would have been preferable.
To outside observation he was falling through a series of n-space portals, rapidly being transferred from widely separated locations as if he were a metal projectile magnetically conducted down a gauss gun.
No sooner would one portal spit him out but a new one would swallow him up.
To his infinite horror he found a few of the openings were spitting him out of bright white hot fireballs resembling fusion weapon detonations.
Or worse, teleFRAG shots.
He didn’t even want to consider what hard radiation was frying him.
Just as his perception began to completely break down, he was aware of something looking at him.
His journey was at an end, the final portal delivered him to what appeared to be a planet sized black hole.
He saw the light bending around the dark sphere, the accretion disk.
Everything told him that was what he was seeing.
So his surprise was immediate when he felt sand under his back.
He rolled over onto his side, nausea washing over him, his head rolling with invisible waves.
His suit radiation meter gave a sudden shriek before breaking.
He wasn’t alone.
“I was hoping to find you, sir.” he told the passively quiet figure watching him.
“Now why would you do a fool thing like that?” Matthew Soames said as he considered the desperate and miserable figure laying on a dune of smartdust at his feet.
The information it was telling him about their visitor wasn’t good.
Yepper, the Karmann Ghia is my dream car, but they’re rare as hen’s teeth.
My son restores VWs and sells them on; he has one he drives, and a convertible he’s working on. He’s not happy unless he has a car to tinker with.
Hiya, Darks!
I suppose that’s the end of the story, right? Not fair!!
How have you been? I mean, besides very busy? You’re on my mind a lot, and of course, I’ve never taken you and your family off my prayer list.
Now THAT is a cute cat pic!
Good morning. I hope you had a good night.
I dreamed I was driving a big red car in the buff through tunnels. According to the Dictionary, every aspect was contrary to every other aspect, so I may as well not have dreamed. LOL!
I don’t know why I’m up so early. Wait. Hot water. Shower. Pain Clinic at 0745. Yep, that’s why.
Good morning. Jake has forgiven me for leaving him. He joined me in bed for purring. It still wasn’t the worst night.
I’m going to funeral later this morning. Maybe I’ll get the forestry lecture for Friday ready before that. Kathleen needs to type in her homework, too.
Well, is that a good thing, Jake forgiving you? I mean now, he’s all up in your pillow again! LOL!
I dislike funerals and try not to attend any that aren’t part of the family. I don’t do very well at funerals. Not since my first one at 14.
Is it your forestry lecture? Or one of the Byos? It’s hard to wrap my mind around Kathleen typing anything! She looks too young!
I will be lecturing on forestry. I need to make a poster about types of seeds and look in my closet for the other posters I got from the forest service.
Kathleen is 10. Sometimes it is hard to believe, but then I think about how old I am!
My Foursies and Fivers are now in a dead heat!
For what it’s worth...

Thanks! It’s harder to figure out than it should be, but that’s just me. Now Me is going to go shower. I’ll be back!
Good morning. Happy Humph Day!
Temps are still cool. I wonder if fall has come early.
From a 2 to a 5 in one day. Well, at least it keeps me humble.

Good morning. Happy Odin’s Day.
I don’t know if it’s cooler or not.
Is AT&T down? I can’t get to my email.
I don’t know, but Sunday, I was having trouble with my phone (AT&T carrier) and yesterday, my FS was having the same trouble with his.
It’s moving west, whatever it is.
Nice job on the 3 spot!
👍🏻
(Stay cool!!)
Good Morning!
It is a five spot for me today as well...
