Meteorites are not ‘flaming rocks of doom,' NASA says
The “bright fireball” was traveling at 35,000 mph when it exploded at 8:03 a.m. with the “energy equivalent of 3 tons of TNT,” according to NASA Meteor Watch, the agency's project that tracks fireball activity.
“Existing law states that any meteorites belong to the owner of the property on which they fell; out of respect for the privacy of those in the area, we will not disclose the locations of these finds,”
And finding anything of value is likely harder than you think.
“The pieces from this object were way too small to leave a crater. Unlike what you see in the movies, meteorites are not ‘flaming rocks of doom’ that blast holes in the ground. In fact, you can pick one up right after it hits ground. So no smoking rocks in small craters.”

Yeah, I know. But I couldn’t resist.
My most common solving speed is the Fiver. Then the Fours, but the Triplet is a close third.
I understand the world so much better now that I have this 2.5x7 screen to view it through. Who knew?
Good morning!
ArGee, my condolences to you and Mrs. ArGee on the loss of her uncle. The U.S. Navy does give a beautiful and moving send-off. And congratulations on the two!
I finally got a break from a streak of fives and sixes.
Wordle 444 3/6
🟨⬜⬜⬜⬜
🟩⬜🟩⬜⬜
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩
I’m always forgetting to add people to my posts. 🤦🏻♀️
Good job on today’s Wordle!!
My late husband got barely a mention in the local paper, and I don’t think, according to the obit, that he got a military burial, even though he spent 18 years in the navy. He had remarried and I think his new family just saw him as the source from whom all money flowed. So it’s nice to know that someone who served was honored accordingly.
I wasn’t even notified, and if I hadn’t checked online I may never have known. As it was, three months had elapsed since his burial. God honors him, and that’s my consolation.
That sucks and yes, God honors him, which is what matters.
My dad had a lovely, solemn graveside ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery in March of 2015, complete with the 21-gun salute and the “missing man” formation flyover. I remained stoic for Dad except for when “Taps” was played.
I’m glad your dad had such a beautiful ceremony. All of our heroes should be honored in that way.
Taps, and/or The Missing Man formation will reduce me to a pile of uncontrollable sobbing every time.
My father is in Gainesville, FL, National Cemetery. He got three guns (well, one three times) and a bugler.
Got any 2’s?
For my morning greeting I finally created a list and put it in my profile. It saves me the foe-paw of skipping someone I care about.
Mrs. ArGee’s uncle got Taps and Old Glory was unfolded, shown, and folded again before being given to his daughter.
It was too rainy for much of anything else anyway.
I think Taps was recorded, but there was a person there in the role of bugler.
You’ll have to go fish!
Yes, the last military funeral I went to had taps recorded, but an air force rep was there to play it. (Nearest post to the military cemetery was Nellis AF Base, so they provided the “bugler.”)
My condolences to Mrs ArGee.
“It was a memory of a different era when people knew what was good and did it for its own sake.”
I remember when you didn’t have to go to a church to find those people.
I remember when it was shocking to run into someone in church who WASN’T one of those people.
My how the worm has turned...
I remember when going to church meant you would find people who thought differently from those outside of church.
Much better than my late husband got. His navy service wasn’t even mentioned in his obit, and he was in Vietnam. And I’m still sorry for your loss. I know you loved him dearly.
I’m proud of all who have served, are serving or will serve.
Thanks. I still miss him!
That reminds me, I need to text Elen, USMC, but I have to wait until later in the day.
That’s a good idea, though I keep my list on here small for now. I don’t want to annoy people who might not want to be pinged. 😏
In under the wire tonight with my Tuesday effort.
After a SCORCHING day of 110+ heat (my car said 120 at the highest, but I know it reads a little high), I guessed this 5-letter word in 3/6 tries.
⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛
