Meteorites are not ‘flaming rocks of doom,' NASA says
The “bright fireball” was traveling at 35,000 mph when it exploded at 8:03 a.m. with the “energy equivalent of 3 tons of TNT,” according to NASA Meteor Watch, the agency's project that tracks fireball activity.
“Existing law states that any meteorites belong to the owner of the property on which they fell; out of respect for the privacy of those in the area, we will not disclose the locations of these finds,”
And finding anything of value is likely harder than you think.
“The pieces from this object were way too small to leave a crater. Unlike what you see in the movies, meteorites are not ‘flaming rocks of doom’ that blast holes in the ground. In fact, you can pick one up right after it hits ground. So no smoking rocks in small craters.”

I don’t mind the triple digit highs. I love them, actually, but not the humidity that comes with them here. But that’s because I lived in the Mojave Desert for 30+ years.
We’re supposed to have a 15° drop in temps on Thursday and Friday, so I have my parka ready!
And thanks!
Good job, you!
I’ll take a five or even a six, but I sure don’t like the X-train, because it doesn’t stand for EXpress!
Good for you!
Some days, it goes like that!
That was exactly what I thought of when I saw the picture! GMTA
Mondays are hard for me, too.
I guess it’s just the lapse.
You should get a medal or be even made a knight (dame).
Well, around 1:20 I noticed Mrs. ArGee was still in her emotional discussion with young ArGee and she hadn’t eaten lunch yet and was going to have to go to her parents fairly soon, so I walked her again.
She took care of everything, so it’s all good.
Ran out to the valley to see Mom, yesterday.
The usual route was closed for some swing bridge bearing replacement job, so I got an extra half hour driving up the two-lane along the levee. Gorgeous day, if a bit toasty.
They surprised me at her place tossing a mask to me and asking about vax status. They haven’t been asking for months, now. Their vax question was so out of the blue I laughed out loud and blurted out, “Hell no!” Lady at the desk was new, and had no grid to process that response; she thought I was kidding. LOL!
They have a Mexican seafood place out there called “Las Isletas,” that gets rave reviews for being “auténtico.” Instead of salsa like all the Tex/Mex places throw down, it’s ceviche on the table for an appetizer, and they serve shrimp dishes, as well as oysters, and — my favorite — fish tacos. We went by thinking it’d be a great place to have dinner; no such luck. Apparently, the rave reviews are accurate; it’s just a little strip mall joint that doesn’t look like much from the parking lot, but at 7pm on a Sunday night there were about fifteen people stacked up outside waiting their turn to be seated.
So, we went over to Black Bear Diner, instead, which turned out OK. They let the salmon get too hot, so it was overdone; not tender. Ya simply CANNOT allow salmon to get above 140. Get an instant read thermometer, check often, get the fish off the heat by 132, or so, MAYBE 135, and let it “coast” from there.
Even though I lived the first five years of my life on an island, I’m not a fan of seafood at all. I can be coaxed to eat lobster, but only with steak and drawn butter. Everything else is off limits for me. But if you enjoy it, then by golly, you enjoy it for me, too! ;o])
Excellent!
How is your M-i-L doing these days? Is she back to full mobility?
I am kind of pleased with this one.
And I got part of the back room cleaned.
Ok I got two shelves in the back room cleaned. And organized. I'll take it.
She is back to where she was. It turns out she’d been suffering from some serious arthritis in her hips for a while. She’d been suffering in silence. She’s back to that, now.
They said her break healed like a 12-y-o, which shocked the orthopedist.
Awesome!
Any day you’re not going backwards is a good day!
I’d like to do two shelves, but they’ll have to wait. ;o]
It’s very hot and humid here. I keep falling asleep!
I know that feeling very well!
I finally got the bed made, but it took me two tries. Unngh.
Tomorrow is another day, so it will most likely bring surprises of its own.
I’m blaming the weather.
Some days you have really tiny wins where all you can say at the end is "we still have a house and nobody died".
Or just "nobody died".
It still is a win for the forces of good.
Some days, just getting out of bed is as good as it gets. If I can make said bed behind me, that’s a bonus.
The forces of good always win. I refuse to entertain any other option! ;o]
I’m doing some of that today, as well. But the rest of it is up for grabs.
It was definitely a Monday.
I have stuff to do tomorrow, so I hope I feel a little more alert.
I hope you do, too! We need more Lerts!
