I just noticed a Yahoo drop box search indicator
on the listed options per FR. What does that mean?
Have I been hacked or compromised some way?

I know. FR search works fine. The problem is at your end.

But a google search like I suggested and select images and you will get all sorts of historical charts. Enjoy

You can also do a s Site search on Google. In the Google search engine, type in your search term followed by a space and then site:freerepublic.com. I did a search with Fawn as my search term and got your home page. Then I typed in cookery as a search term. The first item retrieved was keyword: cookery-Free Republic. I clicked on the link and up came every thread on FR with the keyword cookery.

I don’t know what to tell you. I just searched on keyword “gas” and got a bunch of posts, including some on gas prices. I searched on keyword “cheese” — which for some reason is a keyword on your post — and got your post and lots of posts about cheese.

I rarely use search, so maybe I was just lucky not to run into problems this time.

Actually, it does the opposite. The default search is keyword, and you have to select title, if that's what you're looking for.

Same thing with users. If one does a search for Fawn, the default is keyword, and one needs to select users.

I have almost never gotten the FR search to work. You have to be really precise or know exactly what it wants you to do to make it work. Somebody once explained it to me in detail and I was able to get it to work on 2 occassions shortly thereafter. A week later, I couldn’t remember what I did.

FR has the worst search on the planet. It is really useless. And then you post a link and inevitably somebody will say “Use Search. Search works”.

No it doesn’t. Not in practical terms. I doubt 90 in 100 Freepers has ever performed a successful search. I will happily eat crow if proven otherwise.

I love FR, Jim Rob, Freepers, but hate FR search.

It works. You just don’t know how to work it. Hint: there are no astriks or percents or anything in the search. Just type it in

Search is terrible. It’s like 1990s quality search engine and nothing is indexed.

When I watch older movies, I like to go to IMDB for that movie and click on the cast members to see who's alive and who's dead.

Most of the time, the entire cast is now dead. Either I'm getting older or I'm watching older movies. On a recent movie, I saw that the guy who played the janitor was still alive - though he was 93.

I’d rather “Activity” worked like it use to until it was turned off.
