I have almost never gotten the FR search to work. You have to be really precise or know exactly what it wants you to do to make it work. Somebody once explained it to me in detail and I was able to get it to work on 2 occassions shortly thereafter. A week later, I couldn’t remember what I did.
FR has the worst search on the planet. It is really useless. And then you post a link and inevitably somebody will say “Use Search. Search works”.
No it doesn’t. Not in practical terms. I doubt 90 in 100 Freepers has ever performed a successful search. I will happily eat crow if proven otherwise.
I love FR, Jim Rob, Freepers, but hate FR search.
Search is terrible. It’s like 1990s quality search engine and nothing is indexed.
DON'T search for the whole title.
Search for a unique-ish word in the title (more than three letters - FR search dislikes 3-letter or less search terms).
This is actually good advice on searching in general with any search engine.
My observation is that people appear to be searching for an EXACT match.
Computers are notorious for discarding results that are one character away from your EXACT search term.
I learned this the hard way in college on a programming assignment.
I find the search quite problematic. Some days I am able to find what I want, but most times I might as well just toss some chicken bones on the dirt and interpret their positions.
I'm in that 90-100 because I use the search engine all the time. Keep in mind that keyword searches only search listed keywords.
Can’t use it either.
