David Dinkins, who was elected New York City’s first black mayor in 1989 and famously referred to the nation’s largest metropolis as a “gorgeous mosaic,” died Monday night, sources told The Post.

Maybe I should try that when I next hear from the IRS.
I survived David Dinky.
He was a terrible mayor but he liked tennis.
So I’ve found something good to say about him.
He was interested in making the tennis venue better and that’s it.
Stinky Dinkins
Rush used to call him “General Dinkins.”
Weird story: I worked in NYC in the early aughts. One morning walking to my office standing at a crosswalk light there was a kind of small older black guy wearing overalls looking like he was going to work a real job. He looked so exactly like Dinkins that I actually asked him if he was and he was.
This isn’t any kind of endorsement of him, and I have no idea about what he was doing with himself besides what I could infer from his appearance that day. But, it was kind of nice to see a former prominent politician going back to normal life after office.
I’ll send you your favorite cookies in prison ; )
There’ a holdup in the Bronx,
Brooklyn’s broken out in fights,
There’s a traffic jam in Harlem
That’s backed up to Jackson Heights,
There’s a Scout troop short a child,
Khrushchev’s due at Idlewild—
General David Dinkins,
Where are you?
I see a large funeral with lots of political people and no social distancing or masks...... but that is ok because Cuomo will have another live audience..... well at least for a while.
Also, IIRC, the Bryan Watkins murder. He was a tourist from Salt Lake City, and was stabbed in the heart while trying to protect his mother from a purse snatching (?)
He was an idiot.
However, the night of the Rodney King verdict, he actually got a group of elected officials together, put on tennis shoes, and walked ALL FIVE BOROUGHS that night.
Walked.
NJ was on fire (I know because I was in a government issued car coming back to Manhattan and watched people throw bricks in windows and light buildings on fire).
Didn’t happen in NYC. The one inspired bit of leadership in his whole miserable career.
Gee that’s too bad.
Compared to Wilhelm, he looked good.
Toody and Muldoon to serve as pallbearers.
Third.
Lindsay is #1, DeBlasio is #2.
RIP.
Bob Grant used to call him the “Bathroom Attendant”
ML/NJ
Rush cynically called Dinkins “mayor for life” thinking the left would keep him in power. We had fairer elections then, and he was voted out after New Yorkers had enough quality of life disturbances.
