New York Times columnist Paul Krugman is appearing to be having technical difficulties as he acknowledged Wednesday on Twitter that his IP address had been "compromised" and used to "download child pornography."
"Well, Im on the phone with my computer security service, and as I understand it someone compromised my IP address and is using it to download child pornography," Krugman wrote in the tweet. "I might just be a random target. But this could be an attempt to Qanon me. Its an ugly world out there."
Qanon is a reference to the group of conspiracy theorists who in recent years spread incriminating myths against many high-profile Democrats on social media.

Hahahaha!
Queue up the GIF with Jennifer Lawrence giving the sarcastic thumbs-up ok.
Maybe he should look into this...
Arent IP address assigned randomly each time you log on?
No. You can buy a fixed IP to go with your host or router.

Actually, its not even close.
Because Pete Townshend actually was an anti-pedophile activist for decades and was one of the people after Jimmy Seville. It is quite plausible that powerful parliamentarians linked with Seville would hire someone to hack Townsends computer.
Krugman though?
Not seeing it.
Depends on which IP address and how you have your network configured.
There is the IP address assigned to you by your Internet Service Provider. This number can randomly change unless you pay for a static IP address. No doubt the ISP keeps track of which customers have each IP address and when.
There is the IP address that is assigned to your computer when it boots up. This IP address can be randomly assigned unless you force it to be static via your router.
Hey, maybe the FBI should get his computer, Im sure they could trace who did it. Wait, Ill bet it was...........The Russians!
Also someone snuck up and peed in his pants.
Would this have come to light at all if it weren’t for Krugman publicizing it on Twitter? Is this his way of “getting ahead of the story”, that may not have ever “broken” at all? Sounds like what lawyers call “Guilty Mind”.
I have to be security conscious because I use my PC on the job in different places and have my routes and other work info on it.
“Sounds like he got caught and is now blaming hackers”
Undoubtedly.
Well, it’s a better story than the clown from Newsweek who said he was doing “research” to prove to his wife that tentacle porn is real.

Unexpected.
This one works too
No. You can buy a fixed IP to go with your host or router.
The other aspect to this is accounting for WAN and LAN.
WAN is the outside IP address. If you always have a router powered up and running, you'll likely have an effectively "fixed" IP (it will have a termination time that will get renewed, presumably with the same IP).
LAN, or Local Area Network, is what you have on your home side of the modem/router. When you turn your PC on, there is something referred to as NAT (Network Address Translation) which enables you to have upwards of hundreds of PCs in your home with their own randomly-assigned IP each power-up, which all use the one WAN IP address.
Did he volunteer that kiddie porn was downloaded on his computer that his IP address or did his employer Times or someone else make him aware that they determined it was downloaded thru his IP address? If the latter, he is trying to “Wiener” the public by creating a narrative that someone was trying to do harm to him rather than he is a keynesian pedophile.I can’t stand the dishonest turd whether he is innocent or not
Thats his story and hes stickin to it!
... Apparently so is his keyboard. Eeewww!
His cat stepped on his keyboard and the next thing he knew...
And someone broke in and planted those sex toys in his dresser...
“Pete Townsend of The Who said that *he* downloaded kiddie porn for research. As lame as that is it’s better than Krugmans story.”
Pete is ‘MBE’ and (mostly) untouchable (as is any MBE) — that’s why he had a pass...
