While some of the anatomical regions of these extinct humans are well known, others, such as the vertebral column and the ribs, are less well known because these elements are more fragile and not well preserved in the fossil record. In 1983 a partial Neanderthal skeleton (known officially as Kebara 2, and nicknamed "Moshe") belonging to a young male Neanderthal individual who died some 60,000 years ago was found in the Kebara site (Mount Carmel, Israel). While this skeleton does not preserve the cranium because some time after burial the cranium was removed, probably as a consequence of a funerary ritual. However, all the vertebrae and ribs are preserved, and so are other fragile anatomical regions, such as the pelvis or the hyoid bone (a bone in the neck to which some of the tongue muscles are attached). So it is the skeleton that preserves the most complete thorax in the fossil record... "The wider lower thorax of Neanderthals and the more horizontal orientation of the ribs, as shown in its reconstruction, suggest that Neanderthals relied more on the diaphragm for breathing," said Ella Been of the Ono Academic College. "Modern humans rely on both the diaphragm and on the expansion of the rib cage. Here we can see how new technologies and methodologies in the study of fossil remains are providing new information to understand extinct species."

KEYWORDS: neandertal; neandertals; neanderthal; neanderthalsThe Neandertal Enigma"Frayer's own reading of the record reveals a number of overlooked traits that clearly and specifically link the Neandertals to the Cro-Magnons. One such trait is the shape of the opening of the nerve canal in the lower jaw, a spot where dentists often give a pain-blocking injection. In many Neandertal, the upper portion of the opening is covered by a broad bony ridge, a curious feature also carried by a significant number of Cro-Magnons. But none of the alleged 'ancestors of us all' fossils from Africa have it, and it is extremely rare in modern people outside Europe." [pp 126-127]

If your dentist has difficulty getting your lower jaw numb, this is why.
What gills?
Well, they probably invented bathing.
Great for hunting or singing.
Yeah, it's a tough one, because the name comes from German. If it were any other country, the Tea-Drinkers would probably be correcting everyone ("Rim-skee-KorSOCKoff"). Instead, they stick with their own little stupidities.
Whenever I see Neanderthal I always think of these guys!

I say celebrate those Neanderthal genes!

That’s also known as taking a breather.

Conclusion.
Neanderthals where gay.
The White Male Christian Patriarchy and it’s Oppressive dogmas of social constraints have undermined our evolutionary desires to Swallow.
Who knew?
It is Neander-Thal. ‘Valley of Neander’ - the valley where the first bones of Neanderthal man were found.
The fact that Neander means ‘New Man’ is a coincidence. Anyone who can use the internet can discover the reason why the valley was so named.
Addendum. SunkenCiv: your ignorant snark added nothing to this thread. Leave it out next time.
Those aren’t eyes, those are gills.
Yes it is. All signing originates with the diaphragm, not in the throat. Neanderthals, if they were not great singers must have been very loud talkers.
"There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown."
Thank you for those articles. I sing second tenor in a men’s choir. Now I have ammo to use to tease the first tenors!
They would have made great yogis.
Please pray for agere_contra may he be able to remove his head from his anus prior to suffocation and then manufacture a sense of humor.
