There's a growing number of people who seem to think the world is, in fact, flat.
But it gets better. They also insist that Australia is actually just one big hoax.
According to a viral Facebook rant, the entire country (and presumably the 24 million people that live there) is completely FAKE.
The idea resurfaced at a recent gathering of so-called Flat Earthers in Birmingham recently where over 200 people came together to confirm to each other that the Earth is nothing more than a giant pancake.
The origin of the "fake Australia" post started on Reddit back in 2017 and was written by a Shelley Floryd. But it appears to be back in the minds of the spherically-challenged at the moment.
"Australia is not real," the rant begins.
"It's a hoax, made for us to believe that Britain moved over their criminals to someplace. In reality, all these criminals were loaded off the ships into the waters, drowning before they could see land ever again.
"It's a coverup [sic] for one of the greatest mass murders in history."
Moreover, the post reckons that all Australians are nothing more than computer generated personas and if you've ever been Down Under yourself: "you're terribly wrong".
Hilariously, the pilots are apparently all in on it - and have just been flying you to parts of South America all these years.
Flat Earth theories have been shot down by just about everyone capable of rational thought, but the theory is still enjoying a current resurgence.
Over 200 conspiracy theorists gathered at a hotel in Birmingham for the UK’s first Flat Earth Convention.
The convention, which took place over three days, saw nine speakers take to the stage to explain their theory as to why the Earth is flat.

Yes, like when you see the sun rise at the eastern horizon, arc overhead across the sky all day, then slowly disappear over the western horizon each night.
If the earth is a disk, the only explanation for that observation, is that it's oriented on edge to the sun. It means that the entire surface of our world is in daylight at the same time, and that during our night the reverse side of the disk is illuminated.
But we know this isn't the case, because half of our world is always in daylight, while the other half of the surface is in darkness.
That is only possible if our planet is a sphere.
Look with your ow eyes at the changing phases of the moon, and explain how that observation squares with the theory that planets and moons are disk shaped objects. It doesn't. Your direct observation disproves the theory. That is, unless your beliefs are so strong that they override your basic senses.
Can you see that?
We're not doing that again. Answer these questions:
If the earth is a flat disk, why is half the surface always in daylight, while the other half is always in darkness?
That is only possible if the earth is a sphere.
If the earth is a flat disk, how is it possible to observe the sun rise from the eastern horizon, arc overhead throughout the day, then drop below the western horizon each night?
That observation isn't possible, unless the hypothetical disk shaped earth is oriented perpendicular to the sun. One side of the disk would experience full sun, while the reverse side of the disk was in full darkness.
It means that the entire known world would be in daylight from sunup to sundown. We happen to know that that isn't true, which can only mean one thing:
The earth is a sphere, and not a disk. In addition:
The phases of the moon would not appear as they do to us, if that object were a flat disk. A spinning, disk shaped moon would present an entirely different picture to earth-based observers. It would look more like the iris of a cat, opening and closing throughout each month.
Explain why direct observations of the moon show it to be spherical, when it is not.
How do you explain the temperature data on a spherical, tilted Earth? Surely that is simple enough to answer.

Riddle me this about encroaching darkness.
In this video...Sunrise, Sunset...when you slow the speed down to 0.25...you see that the light from the sun doesn't spring up across the whole of the horizon, instead it spreads from a localized point and then expands across the horizon.
Whether sunrise or sunset the light doesn't flash across the whole of the horizon, the encroaching darkness is always visible.
Even at regular speed, the 8:36 mark has an excellent example of this.
How is that possible on a spinning, spherical Earth?
