The missing submarine was found off the coast of Denmark. Sea War Museum Jutland

A missing German submarine said to have taken the defeated Nazi leadership to South America has been discovered after being lost at sea for nearly 73 years.
The U-3523 was one of Hitlers Type XXI submarines a new and highly advanced design which came too late to stop an allied victory.
It was the first class of U-boats designed to sail submerged for a prolonged period of time and had a range which allowed it to sail non-stop to South America.
The U-3523 was thought to have been sunk by a British B24 Liberator attack on May 6, 1945, but the inability to locate the wreck fuelled rumors that it had escaped.
Now the wreck has been located ten nautical miles north of Skagen Denmarks northernmost town and nine miles west of the position reported by the British bomber.

PinGGG!.....................
One ping only, Vassily ...
Give me a ping Vasili. One ping only please.
You beat me to it.
the whole fore of the ship lies buried in the sand, while the stern stands 65 feet above the bottom.
Apparently the journey ended short of reaching South America...
The Type XXI was the first true submarine in that it could operated for long periods underwater; a shark instead of a dolphin. It was the archetype of all subsequent post-WW II subs.
Those guys probably are lacking in vitamin D you think?
SHrug...speeding at 30 knots when new fandagled sonar picks you up and a Depth charge drops on you ? Slow motion yard dart.
I bet they were returning for another load. Wasn’t Speer and a couple of friends up that way about then?
That graphic reminds me of the second “Hunley” sinking — the one that killed (and probably was caused by) Horace.L. Hunley, himself.
I would be interested in how they came to this conclusion. Maybe this statement is a way to discourage potential looters.
If the bomb damage breached the forward compartment, and the snipes managed to seal off the engine room, she’d sink nose first with the stern still buoyant. I suspect the depression that the bow is sitting in was caused by scour from the local currents.
“Denmarks Sea War Museum, which found the submarine, said there was no evidence that it was escaping with Nazi leaders or loot.”

....and protein....................
I have long been interested in what happened to the Hunley, and I think it was last year that I was told (In a discussion here on Free Republic) what seems to be the most likely cause of it sinking.
I would be interested in hearing why you think Horace L. Hunley might be responsible for it's sinking.
“Apparently the journey ended short of reaching South America...”
I’m sure they would have liked to have seen Montana too ...
A good read focusing on German submarine warfare early in WWII is ‘Operation Drumbeat’. The U.S. was totally unprepared for submarine warfare and a handful of German subs wreaked havoc up and down the east coast of the U.S. Shipments of oil were halted completely at one point due to the Germans sinking so many tankers.
