If the bomb damage breached the forward compartment, and the snipes managed to seal off the engine room, she’d sink nose first with the stern still buoyant. I suspect the depression that the bow is sitting in was caused by scour from the local currents.

Don’t forget that the Type XXI was a new design. She could have had a ballast trim problem. If it was combat damage, then it’s most likely obscured by the sea floor.
