THE bond between man and dog is so close their hearts actually beat in sync when they are together an astounding new study shows.
The heart rates of owners and their dogs become lower when they are in close proximity an experiment that saw heart monitors strapped to dogs and their owners found.
The discovery shows dogs have a fundamental role to play in lowering stress says sports scientist Dr Craig Duncan.
And canine scientist Mia Cobb says owning a dog can do more than just lower your heart rate.
They even recover more quickly from a heart attack, she says.
Dr Duncan and canine scientist and PHD student Mia Cobb separated three dogs from their owners and placed heat monitors on both the humans and the dogs and monitored what happened when they were reunited.
The owner sat on a lounge and when the dog entered the room and jumped on the couch to greet their owner the heart rates of both the dogs and the humans lowered.
I wasnt expecting how much they were synched up and it surprised and impressed me, says Ms Cobb.
While dogs and humans biologically exhibit different heart rates the study showed their heart rates dipped and became elevated at the same rate while they were together.
The heart rate of the humans dropped by around 20 points and the dogs by around 40 points when the were united.
The Monash University PHD student says when humans pat a dog it releases oxytocin, a chemical that relieves stress.

“All dogs go to heaven”. It’s true!
You sure have some great dogs!!! I got three - Great Pyrenees, Yellow Lab, and a little mutt.
Dogs bring a piece of Heaven to us, here.
Stunning but true. Rufus and I. Right now I am on my mobile lying in bed, Rufus stretched out next to my legs and we are in sync
They do wonders for my heart. I love my doggies.
Me to. I would die for her.
Just gave my pup a treat, my old Levi Jeans ... he made a nest
Makes you wonder doesn’t it? How can they steal our hearts so completely with just one look?
All seven of my boys and girls are pound puppies; all it took was JUST THAT ONE LOOK.
My wife says I am not allowed to go to the animal (so called) shelter any more.
I kind of agree, I am getting old enough now to worry about checking out befor my boys and girls.
Lost my Old Jack this last December 30th, expect my Honey Bunny only has another year or two with me, not sure that I can take the pain and loss any more.
That is one happy puppy dog; but if it was my Old Jack, that weenie would have been gone in one slurp.
If they don’t, I ain’t goin either!
THE POWER OF THE DOG
Rudyard Kipling
There is sorrow enough in the natural way
From men and women to fill our day;
But when we are certain of sorrow in store,
Why do we always arrange for more?
Brothers and sisters I bid you beware
Of giving your heart to a dog to tear.
Buy a pup and your money will buy
Love unflinching that cannot lie—
Perfect passion and worship fed
By a kick in the ribs or a pat on the head.
Nevertheless it is hardly fair
To risk your heart for a dog to tear.
When the fourteen years that nature permits
Are closing in asthma or tumors or fits
And the vet’s unspoken prescription runs
To lethal chambers, or loaded guns.
Then you will find—its your own affair
But—you’ve given your heart to a dog to tear.
When the body that lived at your single will
When the whimper of welcome is stilled (how still!)
When the spirit that answered your every mood
Is gone—wherever it goes—for good,
You still discover how much you care
And will give your heart to a dog to tear.
We’ve sorrow enough in the natural way
When it comes to burying Christian clay.
Our loves are not given, but only lent,
At compound interest of cent per cent.
Though it is not always the case, I believe,
That the longer we’ve kept ‘em the more do we grieve;
For when debts are payable, right or wrong,
A short time loan is as bad as a long—
So why in Heaven (before we are there)
Should we give our hearts to a dog to tear?
When you’re ready just remember there are many shelter dogs waiting for someone to love. Three years ago I lost my little Pixie in early Feb. and by the middle of April I was at the shelter. Found a wonderful dog and have added 2 more. Can not imagine life without a dog.
I have also noticed this with my kitty Mao. She jumps in bed with me, curls up against me, and our heart rates soon are in synch.
That’s amazing. I never even thought about it before.
when I get real depressed there are two types of video’s I like to view on the internet.
1. video’s of dogs seeing there owner after a deployment or when they come home after basic TRAINING.
2 daddy’s seeing there young children after a deployment.
both bring tears to my eyes the happy ones.
I don’t have a wife or children I think of my two dogs as my kids.
my dogs are the best medicine for me
‘Same with my Briard Pandy (Pandemonium) he would stand on his hind legs, put his fronty legs on my shoulders, and look me straight in my eyes. I’m 6’2” tall, and he scared away burglers more than once. The son of champions, but he grew too big to compete. But he took up a lot of bed space! You want a great dog? Get a Briard!
Both of mine would betray me for a morsel.
Puptides!
Guess I need a dog.
