Gloria Steinem thinks the United States is ready for a female commander in chief, but said during an interview on ABC News' "This Week" that "it is going to be hell."
The activist and writer sat down with ABC News' Cokie Roberts to discuss her recently published book, "My Life on the Road," which chronicles her journeys around the world educating herself and others about the women's movement over a period of five decades.
Steinem was an early Hillary Clinton supporter, but even as recently as 2008, she did not believe the country was ready for a woman to crack the ultimate glass ceiling.

Ok. Bring back Michelle Bachman.
Palin could’ve been your CIC by now but you and the liberal media would have none of it.
United States is ready for a female commander in chief as long as she is pro abortion, pro gay marriage, pro amnesty and pro climate change.
No, we're talking about a gun-grabbing, abortion-on-demand advocating, unilateral disarming, free-speech abridging, founding-fathers denying, history-revising progressive.
and a lady...
“Gloria Steinem thinks the United States is ready for a female commander in chief,”
Sure, if it’s Margaret Thatcher.

Of course we are. But it isn’t SHillary.
OK
We have one, don’t we?.....
Since the child of any foreigner married to a citizen is eligible, or depending on how the 14th A is read perhaps simply the child of two foreigners, we should probably think about a female CIC, just to be fair.
(Don't worry about the founding fathers concern with and intent to avoid a CIC who has spent his or her entire life with one or more foreign parents, one of which may also be the dominant, controlling figure in the household and very loyal to his or her native country..."just be happy".)
The qualifications for a female ought to include among others:
1. Proficiency with firearms.
2. Happily married to a man.
3. Either her public record reveals support of the military or she, or someone in her family she holds in esteem has served in the military.
Sure that is old school, but old school has a place; see current nation-wide student achievement test results, and Common Core.
We have one now and his name is valarie.
Steinem is so yesteryear. In fact, she never was a yesteryear, she’s beyond yesteryear, found somewhere in deep space inside a vaginal black hole.
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
I don’t know, how is Carly Fiorina going to vault to the top at this point?
Herself is certainly NOT the Commander-in-Chief material that others have made her out to be.
Jane Byrne, Mayor of Chicago, 1979-1983, had a similar meteoric rise, battling as a crusader and reformer, but she managed to blow all her early advantage in a very short while. The reform mayor who once vowed to rid City Hall of corruption found her office accused of having ties to organized crime. She insisted she was “clean as a whistle” and that her accusers were practicing McCarthyist “guilt by association” tactics.
The charge against the mayor was leveled by three of the city’s top policemen, who were demoted in a major departmental shakeup. They said two of the major’s top political aides, who had since resigned, tried to stop a police crackdown on the mob.
Turns out, Mayor Byrne was unprepared to govern, and she had made some really bad choices is her closest associates, through her husband, Jay McMullen, who put her in contact with Charlie Swibel.
Charlie Swibel was bad news, as the controversial chairman of the Chicago Housing Authority, and while one of his landmarks, the Marina Towers (which resemble two huge corn cobs) is an iconic part of the Chicago skyline, he was known as a “fixer”, and his business dealings were as shady as his political horse-trading. Charlie Swibel was a favorite target of Chicago newspaper editorials because of his ownership of West Side slum and Madison Street Skid Row properties. And he milked them unmercifully.
Mayor Jane and Charlie Swibel did turn the CHA into their own little fiefdom and bank account, including some deals with an urban ghetto known as “Cabrini-Green”, notorious for its seriously bad mismanagement. Also, Charlie Swibel was a little casual about paying his taxes, both real estate and reporting of income.
Herself and Jane Byrne were so much alike in so many ways.
It has nothing to do with HRC being female...
I’ll drink to that!
She’s wrong.....what’s new??
On the other hand, England's Thatcher was certainly a great leader!!
