They may be man's best friend, but dogs have little to thank humans for it seems.
Research suggests the domesticated pets can't solve problems as well as their wild cousins because living with us has made them 'incapable of thinking for themselves.'
In tests, experts presented a 'puzzle box' containing food to a group of dogs, and a group of wolves and while the wolves were capable of breaking inside, the dogs looked to humans for help.

This is a shelter cat — wouldn’t have any other kind — and he is actually my husband’s. He is the cat lover, and he spoils this cat rotten. Kitty is very bright and sometimes thinks he’s a dog, I suspect.
Cats are interesting, but I prefer dogs. I guess it’s because they are more sociable, like people.
I adore dogs, but can’t own one yet. When I retire...we will get one. Can’t care for it right now.
And yes...they are like people in many ways.
I hear you. We had only a cat before we retired, and we got our shelter lab after retirement.
