Lincoln Assassination Eyewitness appears on television's "I've Got a Secret" on February 9, 1956.
On a 1956 game show, a man appeared who had been present at Ford's Theatre on the night of April 14, 1865.

"Here is a man, elderly but still kicking, who witnessed the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. Yet his setting -- the 1950s/1960s game show "I've Got a Secret" -- is completely recognizable as a modern media production. Sure, it's not in color, the hairstyles are a bit outdated, and a cigarette advertisement is prominently displayed, but those are subtle changes when compared with those this man saw in his lifetime."
read for later, thank you

I used to watch this show when I was very young...this is amazing stuff...great post!
I remember watching that show as a boy in the 1950s.
Later
Saw this last year. Amazing.
Pawn Stars had an expert on recently bring an original Wanted poster in great condition. Seller wanted $160,000 and turned down $130,000.
Lincoln’s original proposed 13th Amendment popped up a few years ago. Proposed to... Make slavery clearly Constitutional in a final effort to avoid the Civil War.
Lincoln believed blacks were inferior and should be repatriated to Africa. He suspended basic rights such as freedom of the press, habeus corpus, arrested political opponents, was a horrible blunderer as Commander in Chief, and would be remembered differently had he not been shot. Kennedy, of course, had the good fortune of being assassinated as well saving him from being the most failed president of the z20th century.

Interesting. Thanks.
Thanks for posting. Amazing.
I remember that show, by the way Bill Cullen was the first host of “ The Price is Right” our Neighbor won a car on the show!
When I worked for the GOP back in the 1990s I would often run into Grover Cleveland’s son Francis who lived in NH. He used to show up at GOP meetings. Nice old guy. It was strange talking to the son of an American president from the 1880s in in the 1990s.
Absolutely amazing. I’m saving this to show some friends of mine.

There’s a new movie about Lincoln, directed by liberal, Republican-hating Spielberg coming out soon. Maybe he’ll insert these little tidbits.
A friend gave me some DVDs of Groucho Marx’s game show from the ‘50s. One of the contestants was an older man and Groucho asked him what his first job was. The man casually responded, “Well, after the Civil War I worked as a courier.” I just stared in awe. He said it so matter-of-factly...like we might say we remember Desert Storm or Vietnam. It really gave me a sense of how young this country is.
Where I work, we have a guy who has coined the term “Moore Move”.Named after Gary Moore. It occurs when someone holds information that may be important to others and keeps it to themselves. I’ve Got a Secret still lives.
PFL
I loved that show as a kid and remember watching that very program. The host was Gary Moore... a very funny guy. I also remember one with three or four old guys that the panel could not to figure out. They were all former ball players who played in the very first World Series in 1903. I thought it was cool because I knew one of the players name and figured it out by myself.
