New ancestor? Scientists ponder DNA from Siberia

NEW YORK – In the latest use of DNA to investigate the story of humankind, scientists have decoded genetic material from an unidentified human ancestor that lived in Siberia and concluded it might be a new member of the human family tree.

The DNA doesn't match modern humans or Neanderthals, two species that lived in that area around the same time — 30,000 to 50,000 years ago.

One such trait is the shape of the opening of the nerve canal in the lower jaw, a spot where dentists often give a pain-blocking injection. In many Neandertal, the upper portion of the opening is covered by a broad bony ridge, a curious feature also carried by a significant number of Cro-Magnons. But none of the alleged 'ancestors of us all' fossils from Africa have it, and it is extremely rare in modern people outside Europe." According to fossil evidence and DNA studies:

• In the Primate's very long lived line, proto-primates first arose during the age of dinosaurs somewhere around 85 million years ago. The looked a little like this:
  

• Lemurs formed a seperate branch around 75 million years ago.
  

• Monkeys split around 40 million years ago.
  

• Great apes (homonids) split off from monkeys around 15 million years ago.
  

• Gorillas split off about 8 million years ago.
  

• Chimps split around 4 million years ago.
  

• Early genus homos (i.e., erectus, Neanderthals) split around 2 million years ago.
  

• The first modern humans -- homo sapiens -- split from all other pre-humans around 100,000 years ago, during the earth's most recent previous episode of interglacial "global warming."
  

So, science tells us that human ancestors go back a very long ways indeed, and include any number of, shall we say, attractive critters. ;-)

All bones aside, why doesn’t man act like all of the other dominate animals? I have been thinking about this for the last 50 years or so. I don’t care if I am a Monkey why don’t I act like one?

Who says you don’t? Go watch a bunch of high school kids at lunch or just hanging out. You can see the resemblance.

Children act as they are allowed to act, the two of yours that I met would have lost their scalps if they crossed the line? The thing that bothers me is human kids require 13 years to develop into PIAes, in all of human history we have imposed very strict limits on their behavior, as in take swing at the Old Man or Lady a short walk to long drop.

This type of control is exhibited in no other animal nor is the time reach maturity.
