A fossil discovery bears marks of butchering similar to those made when cutting up a deer
One of science's most puzzling mysteries - the disappearance of the Neanderthals - may have been solved. Modern humans ate them, says a leading fossil expert.
The controversial suggestion follows publication of a study in the Journal of Anthropological Sciences about a Neanderthal jawbone apparently butchered by modern humans. Now the leader of the research team says he believes the flesh had been eaten by humans, while its teeth may have been used to make a necklace.

Soylent Green is PEOPLE!
Shouldn’t the title be: “Europeans devoured by recent immigrants from Africa”?

I love anthropology. In anthropology you can make stuff up all day long and propose all manner of silly ideas, and no one will ever really, really know if you are correct or not.
It’s just like being a weatherman. You can be wrong the majority of the time and still have steady employment.
I read an interesting theory about the demise of the Neanderthal and the author stated that his belief was that the Neanderthal physiology was the result of normal humans living well into the hundreds of years as mentioned in scripture. As the life span shortened, the attributes of the longer life span disappeared.

YOU'RE A TROGLOLYTE!
The Neandertal EnigmaFrayer's own reading of the record reveals a number of overlooked traits that clearly and specifically link the Neandertals to the Cro-Magnons. One such trait is the shape of the opening of the nerve canal in the lower jaw, a spot where dentists often give a pain-blocking injection. In many Neandertal, the upper portion of the opening is covered by a broad bony ridge, a curious feature also carried by a significant number of Cro-Magnons. But none of the alleged 'ancestors of us all' fossils from Africa have it, and it is extremely rare in modern people outside Europe." [pp 126-127]
