Is Recession Preparing a New Breed of Survivalist? [Survival Today - an On going Thread #2]
May 05th,2008

Posted on 02/09/2009 12:36:11 AM PST by nw_arizona_granny

Yahoo ran an interesting article this morning indicating a rise in the number of survivalist communities cropping up around the country. I have been wondering myself how much of the recent energy crisis is causing people to do things like stockpile food and water, grow their own vegetables, etc. Could it be that there are many people out there stockpiling and their increased buying has caused food prices to increase? It’s an interesting theory, but I believe increased food prices have more to do with rising fuel prices as cost-to-market costs have increased and grocers are simply passing those increases along to the consumer. A recent stroll through the camping section of Wal-Mart did give me pause - what kinds of things are prudent to have on hand in the event of a worldwide shortage of food and/or fuel? Survivalist in Training

I’ve been interested in survival stories since I was a kid, which is funny considering I grew up in a city. Maybe that’s why the idea of living off the land appealed to me. My grandfather and I frequently took camping trips along the Blue Ridge Parkway and around the Smoky Mountains. Looking back, some of the best times we had were when we stayed at campgrounds without electricity hookups, because it forced us to use what we had to get by. My grandfather was well-prepared with a camp stove and lanterns (which ran off propane), and when the sun went to bed we usually did along with it. We played cards for entertainment, and in the absence of televisions, games, etc. we shared many great conversations. Survivalist in the Neighborhood

This may be off topic or maybe not:

If you are like minded, you despise the never-ending program updates..

have you ever “Upgraded” to a newer version and wished the heck you hadn't..??

With the way the Internet is headed down the socialist trail, sites like the following may be time-limited.

I have used this site for years to bail me out in a pinch as it was easier to d/load when I had high-speed than search through my mass of unorganized archives and maybe it will be of some use

America’s are terrorists if they own a bible, a pocket Constitution or guns,
and still believe in Life, Liberty and Freedom

Obama and ACORN GPS Marking EVERY Front Door in America?

By JB Williams Wednesday, April 29, 2009

Republican Senator Judd Gregg was Obama’s first choice for the Secretary of
Commerce post, and Gregg was actually considering joining the Obama team,
until he found out that control of the US Census was being stripped from the
Commerce Department and placed under the direct control of White House Chief
of Staff, Rahm Emanuel.

Then, the same week that Americans learned that they were “domestic
terrorists”—at least according to Obama’s new DHS (Department of Homeland
Security),—if they own a bible, a pocket Constitution or guns, and still
believe in Life, Liberty and Freedom, - they also learned that Obama’s
Census Bureau had hired thousands of new temporary employees, equipped each
with a handheld GPS computer and sent them out to mark GPS coordinates for
every residential front door in America.

continue.

Thank you for the link, I did not have it and am one that does better with ‘old’ than new.

Off topic, LOL, yes if no one is interested, the rest we can file under survival.

Survival is not only food to my way of thinking, so, LOL, I
consider lots of things to be survival.

It has to be far out to be off topic with me and I am the one who does not stay on topic, my mind goes forward too fast.

Biosite Incorporated Issues Voluntary, Nationwide Recall for Cardiac Marker Test

Contact:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — SAN DIEGO, CA, May 5, 2009 — Biosite Incorporated has initiated a voluntary, nationwide recall of one lot of Triage® Cardiac Panel. The test is used by healthcare professionals as an aid in the diagnosis of myocardial infarction (heart attack). The product has been recalled due to reports of low recovery of quality control samples containing Creatine Kinase MB (CK-MB), troponin I and myoglobin on the affected lot. Although there have been no reported issues of patient misdiagnosis associated with this lot to date, low recovery may lead to reporting of falsely low values for CK-MB, troponin I and myoglobin. A root cause investigation has been initiated.

The recall is limited to the Triage® Cardiac Panel, Catalog No. 97000HS, Lot #W44467B. Biosite Incorporated has notified its customers via overnight mail and has instructed them to discontinue use of the affected lot and discard any remaining product from the lot that is on hand. The identified lot was distributed to clinical labs in the United States between January and February 2009. Replacement product will be provided to clinical labs with remaining inventory of this affected product lot.

Biosite Incorporated has reported the action to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

As is noted in the package insert, the results of the Triage Cardiac Panel should not be used as absolute evidence of myocardial infarction and should be evaluated in the context of all the clinical and laboratory data available.

LOL, mine has taken me on some not so stellar roads too.
Like through a farm, past the barn, down the back lane and out to another road there. Of course I did stop and visit, ask about his cows, chat about the price of milk, complimented his alfalfa, then asked if he minded if I went out the back way like this danged GPS kept sending me. Actually, it was a 12 mile shortcut.

Oh, both mine are 4X4 Jeeps - TJ and Liberty. When I want to go - I want to go.

Swine Flu ‘Pandemic’ Martial Law Passes MA Senate

May 4, 2009

‘While Massachusetts residents were sleeping, our Legislature rushed through a bill- in response to the recent ‘Swine flu’ outbreak.

This bill has been on the shelf but (the) state government felt this was the perfect time to slip this bill through.

What is the big deal about the bill- S18? It gives the Governor power to authorize the deployment and use of force to distribute supplies and materials.

It gives local authorities the permission to enter private residences for investigation and to quarantine individuals.

Basically during any ‘emergency’ our state can and will declare martial law; you lose your Constitutional rights.

This bill has many disturbing facets.’ -From the Blog Ride Tide

From a separate source:

‘It took corporate media swine flu hysteria to ram through a martial law bill in Massachusetts . S18 gives the Governor the power to authorize the deployment and use of force to distribute supplies and materials and local authorities will be allowed to enter private residences for investigation and to quarantine individuals.

The Massachusetts Senate has unanimously passed a pandemic flu preparation bill that has languished in the Legislature before the recent ‘swine flu’ outbreak.

The 36-0 vote today sends the measure to the House. Both branches have taken it up in past years, but have not been able to agree on the details.

The new Senate version would allow the public health commissioner - in a public health emergency - to close or evacuate buildings, enter private property for investigations, and quarantine individuals.

The bill specifically mandates the following:

(1) to require the owner or occupier of premises to permit entry into and investigation of the premises;

(2) to close, direct, and compel the evacuation of, or to decontaminate or cause to be decontaminated any building or facility, and to allow the reopening of the building or facility when the danger has ended;

(3) to decontaminate or cause to be decontaminated, or to destroy any material;

(4) to restrict or prohibit assemblages of persons;

(5) to require a health care facility to provide services or the use of its facility, or to transfer the management and supervision of the health care facility to the department or to a local public health authority;

(6) to control ingress to and egress from any stricken or threatened public area, and the movement of persons and materials within the area;

(7) to adopt and enforce measures to provide for the safe disposal of infectious waste and human remains, provided that religious, cultural, family, and ! individual beliefs of the deceased person shall be followed to the extent possible when disposing of human remains, whenever that may be done without endangering the public health;

(8) to procure, take immediate possession from any source, store, or distribute any anti-toxins, serums, vaccines, immunizing agents, antibiotics, and other pharmaceutical agents or medical supplies located within the commonwealth as may be necessary to respond to the emergency;

(9) to require in-state health care providers to assist in the performance of vaccination, treatment, examination, or testing of any individual as a condition of licensure, authorization, or the ability to continue to function as a health care provider in the commonwealth’ - Bill 122460

Do you feel safer now than you did 115 days ago?<<<

[sarcasm]
Sure I do, for when I get my chip, it will have a number that no one else has.

True, they will expect me to break rocks into gravel at the camp, but of course I can beat them at the game, for I will just drop dead.

Every minute, I become more afraid of what is coming, the democrats hate and fear God, so obama is going to erase God from our language, for it distresses the liberals to hear that word “God” and “Judgement”.

I feel like I am lost in a nightmare.

When Bill was alive, I knew that if we were in a tight spot, he would defend me, I have seen him with a short 2x4 as his only defense against 2 men with guns drawn, they would have shot him, but he would have gone down fighting.

Now when I dream, he keeps showing up to save the day, so the dreams are getting real to me and I am scared to death.

Take a look at the post above this one, martial law bill passed in MA.

all this game playing reminds me of when we lived in Wellton, the first homestead after you left Mexico 40 miles away, over the Yuma desert and a mountain range.

We often had illegals, but we also had the dope haulers stop to ask for the almost hidden road to Mexico, it was the alternate El Diablo highway to the California gold fields, a hundred and maybe hundreds of years old, but not easy to find, unless you knew how to get on it.....it was a couple hundred yards from our front door.

Since we prospected the bombing range and were often out on it and even had permits from the bombing range to go on it, and were furnished maps by them, so they could ask us to look for and turn in things off their weapons.

We also had turned him a few loads of dope, that showed up at the house attempting to get on or off the El Diablo road.

There came a day when we would be checked out, a couple young men, white shirts, straight out of the FBI academy, claimed to be related to Bill, [they were not] and they kept wanting to buy “something”, so I offered billy goats, poultry and some of the useful junk in the yard.

Let it be clear, Bill and I did not sell, deal or use dope of any kind, ever.

Both of us were a danger, as we hate dope as one of the most evil things ever invented.

We figured they were feds and they kept showing up and wanting Bill to take them out in the desert.

Their stories were not good and if we had been bad guys, they would have been in trouble.

Instead, under the advise of our local Sargent/Sheriff, Bill agreed to take one of them out in the desert.

And he did, along with his “mining partner”.

The mining partner, was the head of the local narcotics team.

We never heard from the relatives again, after the trip and the Sargent would never tell me any thing, only “forget it, you will not be given any details”.

I promise you, I could train the feds better than they had been, when they came to my house.

There will be many of the gps guys lost in the woods and over cliffs, it has to be.
