Yahoo ran an interesting article this morning indicating a rise in the number of survivalist communities cropping up around the country. I have been wondering myself how much of the recent energy crisis is causing people to do things like stockpile food and water, grow their own vegetables, etc. Could it be that there are many people out there stockpiling and their increased buying has caused food prices to increase? Its an interesting theory, but I believe increased food prices have more to do with rising fuel prices as cost-to-market costs have increased and grocers are simply passing those increases along to the consumer. A recent stroll through the camping section of Wal-Mart did give me pause - what kinds of things are prudent to have on hand in the event of a worldwide shortage of food and/or fuel? Survivalist in Training
Ive been interested in survival stories since I was a kid, which is funny considering I grew up in a city. Maybe thats why the idea of living off the land appealed to me. My grandfather and I frequently took camping trips along the Blue Ridge Parkway and around the Smoky Mountains. Looking back, some of the best times we had were when we stayed at campgrounds without electricity hookups, because it forced us to use what we had to get by. My grandfather was well-prepared with a camp stove and lanterns (which ran off propane), and when the sun went to bed we usually did along with it. We played cards for entertainment, and in the absence of televisions, games, etc. we shared many great conversations. Survivalist in the Neighborhood

attack the food provision chain and wait for them to beg for Mother Russias aide.<<<
Yes, they have done it before, to several countries.
Many of the bioweapons that Russia worked on, during the cold war, ‘escaped’ into the Russian countryside and is still there, Anthrax being one of them and several others.
You will find them as alerts from ProMedMail.org files over the years, Pro Med is a UN group, so they do not say something was a weapon, unless it really is.

thanks, might be useful for research. As an aussie, all I can say is the less I know about the sixties in the US the happier I am. For so many years we were told here how far behind we were...now, I see it as a blessing.
Sure, post the URL. How amazing to get snow one week and a few weeks later, have wildflowers bloom! One thing that keeps us in Mexifornia - besides the job thing - is the weather. Hubby is from back east and never liked the weather. We are considering moving back there some time (land is amazingly cheaper - and it’s pretty land, not like the ugly Bakersfield stuff!) - but he keeps mentioning the weather. The days of rain where you can’t go out and do what you had planned. And the bitter cold in the winter with no sun for months. Our cabin gets cold - but amazingly enough, we’ve been out in T-shirts with 5 feet of snow on the ground. The afternoons can be pretty nice when the sun is out - and I think I’d get depressed with overcast weather all the time.
That’s pretty neat - thanks.
>>>I think I’d like to go back to the 50’s<<<
LOL we were just out delivering eggs to family and friends - Out of the clear my wife said the same exact thing.
LOL! Sounds like you guys are kinda back in the good ol’ days if you’re out delivering eggs!

Really? Gosh, 1 1/2 dozen to each of our two daughters, two dozen to wife’s aunt (abt. 92) and a dozen to a woman who works with my wife who has been out while recovering from surgery, and 1 1/2 dozen to our family Doctor/neighbor...
Gotta keep those family and community associations strong - never know when we will need each others support.
I'm much too old and have too poor a prognosis to get twisted about the future, making personal peace is a blessing, I'm concerned about my family and attempting to make sure we have food and the means to survive.
that's a very harsh reality for me
what I’m being told is:
“Citing the dollar currency tanking, gold (and Oil) soaring, along with the unknown of troubled assets,
most opinions I receive are pointing to your W/C scenario.
from growing up DEEP in the woods, it's funny,... but it kinda feels like going back in time...
While I try to be totally supportive of the sharing of all the recipes, I must register a complaint.
The recipe you posted for peanut butter, honey, chocolate chip fudge has two problems...
1. It is too good!!!
2. It is too easy to make!!!
How am I supposed to maintain my girlish figure with such temptation?
LOL - Really, recipe is fantastic and sooooo easy. Made a batch tonight and nobody could stop at one.
Thanks for the recipe!
