Yahoo ran an interesting article this morning indicating a rise in the number of survivalist communities cropping up around the country. I have been wondering myself how much of the recent energy crisis is causing people to do things like stockpile food and water, grow their own vegetables, etc. Could it be that there are many people out there stockpiling and their increased buying has caused food prices to increase? Its an interesting theory, but I believe increased food prices have more to do with rising fuel prices as cost-to-market costs have increased and grocers are simply passing those increases along to the consumer. A recent stroll through the camping section of Wal-Mart did give me pause - what kinds of things are prudent to have on hand in the event of a worldwide shortage of food and/or fuel? Survivalist in Training
Ive been interested in survival stories since I was a kid, which is funny considering I grew up in a city. Maybe thats why the idea of living off the land appealed to me. My grandfather and I frequently took camping trips along the Blue Ridge Parkway and around the Smoky Mountains. Looking back, some of the best times we had were when we stayed at campgrounds without electricity hookups, because it forced us to use what we had to get by. My grandfather was well-prepared with a camp stove and lanterns (which ran off propane), and when the sun went to bed we usually did along with it. We played cards for entertainment, and in the absence of televisions, games, etc. we shared many great conversations. Survivalist in the Neighborhood
(BTW, the bread turned out SO good. Ive never tasted bread that had the real wheat flavor. It really doesnt need anything to enhance the flavor - but cinnamon and honey sound too good not to try this morning.)<<<
Once you have tasted the fresh grains, it is difficult to go back to the many years old supermarket ‘stuff’.
My brother works in a major companies food warehouse, his job is to keep the forklifts running.
There is a giant pallet of food, that has blocked his work area for 4 years, without being changed or replaced, so that should give one an idea of how it is on our shelves in the supermarket.
I got wonderful fresh grains, in the bags/bulk grains at:
The bags come direct from American grain producers and mills, in the original bags and you can see the difference.
Some of my 5 years old beans from there, are still not as ugly as what I buy in the local supermarkets here.
Yes, you will need to get up early, to catch those bees.
Now don’t go laughing at my hambones...
LOL
You are welcome.
I couldn’t decide on where to start with them and still have too many windows and tabs open to even check them out.
T.A.C. has posted a cutie for us to smile at in post 1928.
Thank you Vickie, that is a good one.
Post 1930 had me setting here laughing real loud.
Look and I do think the caption is what they said.
Thanks to Vickie.
Did you notice the eyes on that calf in 1928? Hope your Snuggie is keeping you warm.
The poor heifer looks startled to think she might have to give milk so soon!
I’m glad you enjoyed them. The goats are soooo cute! Maybe mom will let them off tyme out soon.

I bought some superpails packed for long term storage from Emergency Essentials. But...I don’t want to break into those to make bread for next week ;) I’ll look into Walton Feed to get just a bag for every day use. How long would wheat berries last in a bag? And do you put them in another container when you get them?
I just found out that Winco has some in their bulk section for $.87 a pound. I could do that as well. They may have been there a while...
Can’t open this. Now I’m curious.
Looks like we will need to stand vigilant against the rising Babylon of Scripture:

Yes, I think the eyes were really seeing the kitten.
Yes, thank you, I am much warmer with all my wonderful gifts.
The poor heifer looks startled to think she might have to give milk so soon!<<<
Normal reaction, I would think.
Imagine her future.
Milking and calves.

Every mother should have that poster, it reminds me of my kids, LOL.
Now if you find a donkey, all my family will be on the thread.
When Bill said “NO”, you might as well give up, he rarely changed his mind...stubborn as a donkey.
Vickie, that is a beautiful and fantastic photo.
Lucky day, Vickie got 3 good photos on one page.
All of them put a smile on my face.
