Though I do enjoy "Apollo 13" and look forward to the new updated release on DVD, Dolly. I still think the real story is told on the ground and not in space. With Ed Harris, superb as always, playing Gene Krantz.

I'll still stick with Phil Kauffman's outstnding Ensemble Cast, Peroid Piece/Bio-Pic, "The Right Stuff". Where everything taken for granted today first got started.

Ed Harris, Scott Glenn, Randy Quaid and Fred Ward are Dead Ringers for Glenn, Carpenter, Cooper and Grissom. Their Mid-Training Plan to "Alter the Experiment" is truly not to be missed!

Neither is their subtle extorsion to modify the German Scientists' "Capsule" into a "Spacecraft" within earshot of a hungry Press Corps!

Sam Shepard may be taller than Chuck Yeager, the Absolute God Of All Test Pilots; but everything else about his character in zeroed in perfectly!

All the the Women In Attendance do some of their best work. From Mrs. Cooper, Grissom and Glenn. All the way to "Pancho" Barnes and the quiet, near Sadistic Holloman Test Lab Nurse!

Jack.

Im Wrong!

I used to think that I was strong,
I guess it was only pride.
It hurts to admit I was simply wrong,
 Strength doesnt come from inside.

I have been blessed and I love it,
I thought it was owned as my right,
Not my arm, but from somewhere above it,
Is the source for the force of my might.

Its not easy to change in my thinking,
I have been so deluded too long,
With reluctance, my egos been shrinking,
For I found in a flash I was wrong.

 Ive discovered Im actually mortal,
But my ego, -- whats left -- will still fight,
Ill take pride to admit with a chortle,
When I say I am wrong, that Im right!

 Butterfly

Whats in those flowers that you sip,
That makes you seem so tipsy?
We cant tell if youre coming from,
Albany or Poughkeepsie,

Or even if youre going to,
One place or the other.
The way you travel seems to be,
Youre looking for your mother!

Just as a toddler wanders round,
With no fixed course in sight,
The butterfly flits both here and yon,
In most erratic flight.

It seems so inefficient,
Why cant you just hold still?
And then you stop, and fold your wings,
Upon a daffodil.

You daintily step forward,
I havent touched a drop!
And just as sober as a Judge,
You spread your wings and FLOP!

And Flip, and Flap, and bounce.
A goonie in reverse.
How can you be so comical?
I know you dont rehearse.

And yet you get where you must go,
God knows how you can do it.
Perhaps the use of folded hands,
And faith just leads you to it.

Thanks for the ping Amy. Another great thread. 63° here in White Lake Michigan...feels like 75°. Grilled out burgers an hour ago and just got back from hitting a bucket of golf balls at a nearby county park with my son. Been working in the yard today. What a great weekend to have off work! It's supposed to be even nicer tomorrow (Sunday). I hope you all are enjoying life wherever you are.

The Legend Of The First Robin

One day, long ago, a little bird in Jerusalem saw
a large crowd gathered around a Man carrying a
heavy wooden cross. On the Man's head was a
crown made from a thorn branch.

The thorns were long and sharp. The little bird
saw that the thorns were hurting the Man.
It wanted to help Him, so it flew down and took the
longest, sharpest thorn in its tiny beak.

The bird tugged and pulled until the thorn
snapped from the branch. Then a strange thing
happened. A drop of blood
fell onto the bird's breast, staining it bright red.

The stain never went away.
And so today the robin proudly wears a
red breast, because it helped a Man named Jesus.

May God bless you today,
And keep you all year through.
May God give you all the faith it takes,
To make your dreams come true.
May His love and wisdom always help,
To guide you on your way.
May His light shine down upon you now,
 To bless your every day.

I heard the explosion that morning. It rattled our windows way down here in SE TX. Most of the wreckage was found about 30 miles north of here.
When I first lived in Houston, I lived in the same apts. with the astronauts secretary. There were only 7 of them and one of her at first; then they got the second group. I met many of the astronauts including John Glenn and one of the new ones named Neil Armstrong.
Armstrong he left she said, "You just met the first man to walk on the moon." Nobody had ever heard of him before. What I found amazing when it happened, was that it was planned so far in advance.
