Many FReepers have knowledge to share about improving and maintaining health and would like to share it and learn from others; and others may not know much yet but want to learn. Some of us don't have much money for good insurance or doctors, some want to try other methods besides prescription meds, and some have experience in treating and solving health problems.
More and more "regular" doctors have accepted treatment methods such as the benefits of acupuncture, massage for many conditions, better diet, use of herbs and so on. There are limits, and often side effects, to some standard medical efforts.
My field is Ayurvedic herbalism and related measures, and have a lot of information I can post when I have time. I have seen herbs and sometimes dietary changes help people (including myself) with issues such as rheumatoid arthritis, high BP, gallstones, kidneystones, repeated boils, UTIs, prostate problems, insomnia, allergies, urinary incontinence, and many more. I hope to learn a lot from others with their knowledge and experience.
There are many "old fashioned" home care methods that were in common use a few generations ago that actually work and are cheap, such as castor oil packs, fomentations using alternating hot and cold water, and the like, which are easy to do. I am sure there is a lot of knowledge here on Free Republic that can be shared.
I would like this thread to stay civil without distruption, so my request is that people who think natural health methods are bunkum, make your own thread.

Thanks, 2AM. I didn’t have an official EO ping list, but I guess I do now.
So far it’s the people in the To: list. Anyone else?

For bruising, I use a blend of Lavender, Frankincense, and Cypress (5-8 drops of each) in a 10 ml roller bottle filled to the top with coconut oil. Put it on immediately and the brusing is much less.
LJ, I'm starting out with the basics, and we'll see where we go. Now it's frankincense, which is BIBLICAL. Frankincense is so important that it gets a nickname: Frank.
- Frank is grounding, great for meditation and balancing emotions.
- Need to collect your thoughts? Diffuse or inhale Frankincense. Apply along your brainstem and crown of head.
- Frank is big for immune support. Put a couple drops in your juice or in a capsule.
- Google Frankincense and Cancer.
- Frank is great for radiant and smooth skin. My female friends swear by it. Google frankincense and "cellular regeneration".
- Frank can soothe your eyes. Rub a couple of drops on your palms and then cup your hands over your open eyes for a couple of minutes. You'll be ready for another 12 hours in front of your screen.

Thank you for recommending this. I forwarded your advice to my granddaughter, she has chronic stomach pains. Doctors cannot find a cause, all her tests are negative. Told her also she might be lactose intolerant and to switch to almond milk which her mother can make at home.

Lemon:
- Lemon oil supports detox of organs and can provide an afternoon energy boost. You can add 1-2 drops of lemon oil to a capsule or to a favorite recipe.
- Diffuse lemon with lavender and peppermint for seasonal allergies, or apply the mixture topically. Lemon with frankincense and lavender is also worth a try.
- Google d-limonene, the main component of lemon oil, to see what it's good for, including bronchitis, cancer, diabetes, gallstones, gastric reflux/heartburn, high cholesterol, and ulcers.
- A drop or two of lemon oil in your water bottle adds flavor without the enamel-eating acid of lemon juice.
- Caution: don't expose skin to sun for 12 hours after putting on lemon oil. Lemon oil causes photosensitivity, likely resulting in severe sunburn, even blisters, in a relatively short time.

An interesting resource for EO folk knowledge is
http://oil-testimonials.com. There, people share anecdotes about oils and blends that successfully achieved certain effects for them.
This evening, after watching part of a documentary involving the use of bee venom for Lyme disease, I checked Oil Testimonials to see if anyone had had any success with EOs in Lyme disease. The search pattern I used was "lyme site:oil-testimonials.com". Sure enough, people have had (anecdotal) success with multiple different mixtures of oils, after terrible experiences with regular medical approaches. No guarantees, but perhaps worth more research.
The documentary that inspired this search was part of the new Netflix series (Un)Well, a somewhat balanced look at various alternative wellness methods, including EOs, tantra, ayahuasca, and bee venom. They present the successes that many people have achieved with such methods as well as some of the risks and unethical behavior that exist in the alternative medicine world.

I haven’t read through the whole thread yet, but Frankincense would be a good skin one.
That may have been mentioned already.

Good to meet you, DrewsMum.
My 783 talks about frankincense, including its beneficial effect on skin. Frankincense may be the #2 go-to EO, right after lavender. Those two are what I run through fastest, with peppermint a close third.

Another Oil Testimonials find is the "
morphine bomb". People seem to think this is very effective for chronic pain.
My 60 y.o. brother has lots of aches and pains. He played football in high school and worked in the oil field services industry for decades. The coup de grace is when he had a head-on collision between his Chevy Caprice and an 18-wheeler going the opposite direction in the same ice rut. Since he retired last year he's done yoga, massage, rolfing, and even had two guys walking on his back at the same time to work out some knots. He's doing a lot better, but he still has some aggravating neck pain.
I sent him the materials for the morphine bomb and he tried it this week. He says if it's not the oils then it's the best placebo he has ever tried. He's very happy with the results, and even has his Chinese wife (an amateur herbalist) using it for her aches.

Yea I saw that RIGHT after I hit "post" on my comment. Of course. Lol Thank you, I am so tickled to have found this thread. I've researched a lot on natural meds over the years, and still feel like I know very little, ...especially after reading through some of the comments here. I am excited to go back and catch up on the thread. Feels like I just got a new book to read. 😁

I did some Oil-Testimonials.com research on migraine because it came up on another thread the other day. What I found was a huge variety of oily approaches to migraine, reportedly successful for the individual who reported each combination. Here's a sample of the non-proprietary solutions:
- Peppermint + lavender + copaiba (one drop each)
- Eucalyptus radiata followed by peppermint, massaged into the "sinus points" on the foot.
- Peppermint inhaled, applied to temples and forehead, and imbibed with hot chocoloate.
- Frankincense, around the eyes for ocular migraines.
- Peppermint on neck, forehead, below nose, and on chest and neck, and inhaled deeply from hands for two minutes.
- Frankincense + Idaho balsam fir, one drop each, mixed in palm, applied to roof of mouth.
- Peppermint + helichrysum, applied to temples, base of skull, back of ears, jaw line.
- Basil, inhaled from the bottle.
- Peppermint under tongue and applied to neck and temples.
- Lemon.
- Lavender and peppermint on temples.
- Idaho blue spruce.
There were also a number of solutions incorporating Young Living brand products, Apparently most of the contributors to Oil-Testimonials are YL users.
- Sulfurzyme (a supplement).
- Thieves (YL's all-purpose immune support blend)
- Endoflex (YL's endocrine system support blend)
- M-Grain (YL's migraine-specific blend).
- Aroma Siez + M-Grain + Aroma Life.
- Dragon Time (YL's time-of-the-month blend).
- PanAway (YL's pain relief blend).
- PanAway + Peppermint.
- Deep Relief (YL's muscle pain relief blend).
- Etc.
The evidence shows that there is no consensus oily solution for migraine, though peppermint is the most popular, followed perhaps by lavender and frankincense. If you're interested in digging deeper, here are two searches you might find useful:

I cant thank you enough AZ.
Research like this already compiled is invaluable.
Now this migraine( husband tries to cheer me and calls them mybrain) has passed it is time to accrue supplies and get ready to test in home trials.
Of course I always pray another will never occur but eventually it does happen unfortunately.
Hugs

The book
Essential Oils of the Bible has a section on migraines. After defining what a migraine is, it suggests three approaches:
- Migraine prevention: at the first sign of migraine, soak your hands in a bowl of 1 qt. of warm (110 degrees) water mixed with five drops each of ginger and lavender, for at least 3 minutes.
- Migraine compress: soak a cloth in a mixture of 1/2 cup warm water and five drops each of ginger and lavender, and hold cloth to forehead while still warm. Repeat as necessary.
- Cayenne cream: mix 5 drops of cayenne with a tablespoon of unscented hand cream or lotion (I would use a "carrier oil") and apply to forehead and temples once an hour as needed.
It's odd to me that none of these include peppermint. The first mention of peppermint in the book says, "This essential oil relieves depression and mental fatigue, fights stress, and eases away migraine and other headaches." Since peppermint is a "driving oil", one might want to layer peppermint on top of the others to make them penetrate faster.
If you have Amazon Unlimited, the book is "free".
