Many FReepers have knowledge to share about improving and maintaining health and would like to share it and learn from others; and others may not know much yet but want to learn. Some of us don't have much money for good insurance or doctors, some want to try other methods besides prescription meds, and some have experience in treating and solving health problems.
More and more "regular" doctors have accepted treatment methods such as the benefits of acupuncture, massage for many conditions, better diet, use of herbs and so on. There are limits, and often side effects, to some standard medical efforts.
My field is Ayurvedic herbalism and related measures, and have a lot of information I can post when I have time. I have seen herbs and sometimes dietary changes help people (including myself) with issues such as rheumatoid arthritis, high BP, gallstones, kidneystones, repeated boils, UTIs, prostate problems, insomnia, allergies, urinary incontinence, and many more. I hope to learn a lot from others with their knowledge and experience.
There are many "old fashioned" home care methods that were in common use a few generations ago that actually work and are cheap, such as castor oil packs, fomentations using alternating hot and cold water, and the like, which are easy to do. I am sure there is a lot of knowledge here on Free Republic that can be shared.
I would like this thread to stay civil without distruption, so my request is that people who think natural health methods are bunkum, make your own thread.
If you have a natural health ping list, please add me to it. Thanks!
This is the only source I have for Jatamansi. I stated earlier on the thread that this source went wholesale only and I was WRONG!!! It went online only, closed up their big store in Berkeley. I have used herbs from Vadik Herbs (used to be called Bazaar of India) for more than 30 years. The info about benefits on Vadik herbs is very minimal

Also can be purchased on Amazon:

I do, and I will.
Wow. Amazing info. As a guitar player with arthritis creeping in, I’ll be trying the Borax solution. Got a box of it in my laundry room. Also at that time of life where hot flashes are a considerably annoying part of it. Also the diatomaceous earth. Ordered some food grade stuff from Amazon right after reading that link. Thanks for the links!
When I was diagnosed with Glaucoma - that I DID’NT have.
Several years ago, my eyes turned bright red, thought I had pink eye, went to Eye Dr, my eye pressures were 45, normal is between 12-15 he said. I told him it happened overnight, went in next day pulses were 14, back to Dr next day pressures were 42. Dr said this should never happen.
He scheduled me to a specialist (I thought a consultation) who was planning on lasering holes in the back of my eyes for draining to reduce pressure. Blessings from God that I didn’t have a driver and she couldn’t do the laser procedure.
Next day pressures were so bad I had a paper towel pinned to my shirt for the eye tears running down my cheek.
I called my acupuncturist and he got me in.
He tried to put a needle in the side of my head beside my eye, it bounced out due to the swelling. He then started to massage the toe beside my little toe - the pain was unbearable. I asked what he was doing and he said it was the other end of my eye nerves (the pain subsided) and he was able to give me a treatment.
At the end he suggested to go to a chiropractor.
Went and got a back adjustment. The Chiropractor said the eye nerves go thru a sphincter that was approximately where my bra closed in the back.
Anyway, it was only my back out of place causing the “diagnosis” of Glaucoma.
It always made me wonder how many people that have been diagnosed with Glaucoma only needed their back adjusted?
Sorry for the long post.
Will have another “diagnosis” to share later
Thanks!
You’re welcome.
I’m a guitar player with arthritis - had RA so badly could not play for quite some time. Finally kicked the RA and now just have the regular kind, esp. in R wrist/thumb joint. There is an Ayurvedic medicine for arthritis (and some other issues) that I used for the RA, it treats any arthritis type joint pain. I highly recommend it, I take is now and then when this joint gets painful. There are also oils that help, I described above how to make a castor oil pack.
Yogaraj Guggulu - I use the Banyan Botanicals and the Vadik Herbs brands, and prefer the bulk powder as it’s cheaper, here are some links.

More brands:
Bulk powder, I take 1/4 t. twice a day, a pound lasts a long time:
Vadik herbs, cheaper, I use this brand too:

I noticed you mentioned Diatomaceous earth - just a small warning. A few people get very constipated from it, most don’t. It is said to have many benefits, but only if you’re not one of the few that gets blocked up. Sadly, I am one of them.
WOW!
A good acupuncturist is invaluable.
Glad you averted the totally unnecessary and very likely dangerous or harmful laser procedure.
It’s not that I don’t like Dr’s, it’s that I have several misdiagnosis. It seems that the Dr wants to treat the symptom, I want to find the cause and fix it.
Doctors can be good and necessary for sure. Just scary with misdiagnoses.
Thank you so much for the links. Will definitely check them out. I only got halfway through this thread today, but will read some more before bed. I plan to be cautious about DE, some of the stories were pretty eye opening! Haha!
On another site there was (and may still be!) a very long thread about people using DE and it sounded so good I started taking it, had for cats and garden already.
But it just turned to cement in my innards.
DH takes it without problems and feels that his hair and nails are stronger and growing better.
I have The Obesity Code on kindle. My latest purchase has been Self Heal by Design by Babara O’Neill. Look her up on youtube. She has a series of lectures on nutrition, her life in Australia, and old fashioned poultices, etc. Fascinating stuff.
LJ, I have Banyan Botanicals Pippali powder to use with this milk. Am confused about herbs proportions in mixing? Equal parts?
Etabeta, are you planning to make medicated milk with the Pippali?
Duh, now I see which comment you are referencing.
You want only 1/2 t. of Pippali with the milk and water. I would even start with 1/4 t. Pippali, as it is pretty hot, and gauge how hot you want/can handle. It’s not as hot as very hot red chili but still pretty hot. I should have formatted info better but time constraints.
The basic medicated milk recipe is:
1/2 t. (can start with 1/4) to 1 cup milk and 1 cup water and simmer until liquid is reduced to 1 cup.
Can add some natural sweetener if desired. (I do)
Some books say to add less water, this makes the process quicker, but it only takes a few minutes. The longer it simmers, the more potency of the herbs goes into the milk, but I’ve done it with less water. I generally use equal amounts milk and water. No really hard and fast rules.
Thank you!
I’ve been using the E2 (4 pills) and 1500 mg of the cordyceps since last Saturday.
I have an Airlife meter I am supposed to use everyday. I’ve been using one for years. The readings are consistently better since starting the new supplements.
Thank you.
