Natural Health

Many FReepers have knowledge to share about improving and maintaining health and would like to share it and learn from others; and others may not know much yet but want to learn. Some of us don't have much money for good insurance or doctors, some want to try other methods besides prescription meds, and some have experience in treating and solving health problems.

More and more "regular" doctors have accepted treatment methods such as the benefits of acupuncture, massage for many conditions, better diet, use of herbs and so on. There are limits, and often side effects, to some standard medical efforts.

My field is Ayurvedic herbalism and related measures, and have a lot of information I can post when I have time. I have seen herbs and sometimes dietary changes help people (including myself) with issues such as rheumatoid arthritis, high BP, gallstones, kidneystones, repeated boils, UTIs, prostate problems, insomnia, allergies, urinary incontinence, and many more. I hope to learn a lot from others with their knowledge and experience.

There are many "old fashioned" home care methods that were in common use a few generations ago that actually work and are cheap, such as castor oil packs, fomentations using alternating hot and cold water, and the like, which are easy to do. I am sure there is a lot of knowledge here on Free Republic that can be shared.

I would like this thread to stay civil without distruption, so my request is that people who think natural health methods are bunkum, make your own thread.

Some people cannot take huge amounts of Vit C (me for instance...) but the other things are pretty universal. I did get a prescription for Valtrex (I think that’s what it’s called) in case I get them again.

I will post what I did, they wound up very mild and my doc was surprised. I have read horror stories about shingles and my “mild” case was such that I never want to get a severe case.

Your protocol has a few ingredients that I used in hubby’s protocol.

I have it written down, somewhere (it was several years ago), but it also included lysine, ACV and topical coloidal silver.

His symptoms barely lasted three weeks and he’s (PTL) had no residual effects.

Thanks for starting this kind of thread, little jeremiah, (and please add me to your ping list for future threads on this "Natural Health" topic).

Along these lines, I would like to highly recommend two books I recently discovered, which both seek to drastically reduce the dependence many people currently have on today's obscenely expensive "health care" system, doctors, prescription drugs, etc.

The first book is called "Undoctored: Why Health Care Has Failed You and How You Can Become Smarter Than Your Doctor" by William Davis, MD (the "Wheat Belly" Cardiologist).   In it, Dr. Davis recommends things like making use of forums (like this Free Republic "Natural Health" thread), where many people share health information, and effective health preventions or treatments.   He outlines his version of a low-carb approach to diet, and recommends a small number of very effective supplements, in addition to sharing many other valuable health tools and suggestions.

The second book is called "The Diabetes Code: Prevent and Reverse Type 2 Diabetes Naturally" by Dr. Jason Fung (Nephrologist).   In it, Dr. Fung also recommends a low-carb diet, as well as intermittent fasting, to prevent and actually reverse diabetes, without having to use all those presciption drugs and blood tests, which merely treat the disease as it gets worse and worse.

Both of these doctors seek to reduce/eliminate, as much as possible, dependence on expensive prescriptions and "medical care", using more natural methods.   (While, most likely, not everyone here will agree with everything these doctors suggest or recommend, I believe both books can be very helpful for those seeking more natural solutions for various health conditions.)

"Undoctored: Why Health Care Has Failed You and How You Can Become Smarter
Than Your Doctor" by William Davis, MD (Cardiologist - Heart Doctor)

(Amazon Link)

"The Diabetes Code: Prevent and Reverse Type 2 Diabetes Naturally"
by Dr. Jason Fung (Nephrologist - Kidney Doctor)

(Amazon Link)

My hope is that many people here and elsewhere will adopt these methods, and drastically reduce their excessive dependence on expensive drugs and doctors.   (I have no financial interest in either of those books.)

(I have to go now, so I'll say goodnight, but thanks again for starting this kind of thread.   It should, over time, be very helpful, for many people.)

For aches and pains, the enzyme serrapeptase is amazing. No side effects and it’s made from silkworm enzymes that allow the emerging moth to dissolve its tough silk cocoon. It seems to have an effect on getting rid of scar tissue and other blockages that can cause pain. Easy capsule to take.

Thanks for the info and the books. I do know that type 2 Diabetes is preventable, and if a person develops it, it at least in many cases, can be reversed.

Without eating any processed carbs or sugar, and 1/2 c fruit a day max, you sometimes actually lose too much weight. I try to get in Extra calories some days. My weight is where I want it but low carb it’s nesrly impossible to gain too much weight. And with no sugar, there are no food cravings, just genuine hungers.

Not Ayurvedic but once years ago I read a short diet book whose core idea was, only eat what makes you feel good for the next 12 hours. So simple. Yet most people don’t. If you truly focus on that rule, you can’t go too wrong. No one feels good from cheap junk food or sugary foods etc. sometimes you “feel good” tasting it, but not so great 2-3 hrs later. Or the next day (alcohol etc). But after a meal of healthy proteins and vegetables, you often feel your best for several hours.

That is an excellent point. It’s all part of paying attention to what our bodies are telling us. Eat to live, not live to eat, etc. And educating ourselves about what is healthy and what is not, and specifically for our particular constitution is also very helpful. Not everything that is good for one person will be good for another.

I don’t eat much sweets, as far as desserts etc but if I make something sweet for other people I am definitely tempted and I always feel awful after eating more than a tiny bite. It is just not worth it for me.

I love to bake but I don’t eat or even taste because it would make me sick. I just love to look and smell it, and give it to others.

If your research produced details explaining how exogenous hypochlorite is dangerous but endogenous hypochlorite is safe, then why would you hide these details from people on this thread asking for them?

I’m not any kind of a doctor, just sharing my own experience:

I take 2 E2 pills (they are tiny) with breakfast and dinner.

I take one cordyceps capsule with breakfast and dinner... they are 500mg.

Start with half that much and see how it goes, would be my suggestion.

I really want to stop this discussion. I explained that I did the research years ago, maybe ten or more, and I have had computer issues and at least 3 computers since then.

I do not have that info at my fingertips.

If you want to you the details, you will have to do your own research.

I have every right to caution people about using a chemical which is used to sanitize hospitals and morgues, whether using internally or externally. If anyone wants to use it anyway, I strongly encourage them to do their own research.

The stomach produces hydrochloric acid, and it is also industrially manufactured and has many uses such as in the steel industry. Does that mean people should buy hydrochloric acid and use internally or externally? I think the answer is obviously no.
