That myth-crap of 'Khazars,' pushed by R. Islamists and Neo-Nazis alike

Ever heard about the 'Khazar' myth pushed by the Neo-Nazis/KKK?

In fact, Jews are both a nation and a religion. the percentage of those with any roots in khazaria is so minimal, that there was only one non-historian "writer" that came up with the idea to say that the percentage is higher. As a penpal who is of Jewish background told me once: 'Before the WW2 Were were told to go BACK to Palestine where we came from... now the same haters don't even grant us that...'

Hitler VS Khazar myth

Oddly enough, Hitler's "aryanism" and anti-Jewish sick obession was AGAINST The 'khazar" myth, of course. But his followers wouldn't care about consistency. Just as the  crazy inconsistent Nazis themselves preferred long-nosed-Muslim Bosnians over Christian Serbs. Hitler [despite his alliance with fascist Arab-Islamic leadership to exterminate the Jews out of bilnd hatred] refused to drink coffee with the Arab Mufti al-Husseini or shake his hands, Arabs in Germany were subject to the same 'racial' treatments as Jews were. Clearly, they liked power and "ideology' was not the only thing motivating them.

Haters always had the contradictions. You can not "blame" the Jews for (some of them) agreeing with the Romans to kill Jesus and then contradict yourself in saying they are not the same Israelites/Hebrews/Jews... LOL

Luckilly for the recent DNA testing, this myth has (also) been exposed as a LIE.

SPME: Steven Plaut: The Khazar Myth and the New Anti-Semitism -

... Some two hundred websites claim to describe a cabal known as the "Khazarian Zionist Bolsheviks" (KZV). Neo-Nazi and Holocaust denial organizations and websites are particularly fond of the Khazar myth...Arab and Islamist propagandists have long bandied about the "Ashkenazim as Khazars" theory and Iran’s genocidal leaders adore it. Al-Jazeera has been using the Khazar story to urge a worldwide Christian religious war against the Khazar pseudo-Jewish imperialists.

Groups promoting the Protocols of the Elders of Zion often cite the nefarious role of Khazars as "proof" of a worldwide Jewish conspiracy (I counted 700 such websites). And even Jewish anti-Zionist cranks like Alfred M. Lilienthal and the Swedish "Israel Shamir" have used the Khazar myth to attack Zionism.

Why are these various groups suddenly interested in a rather esoteric and archaic group of people in Central Asia that disappeared nearly a millennium ago?

The answer is very simple.

According to the Khazar theory of the new anti-Semites, most Jews today, particularly Ashkenazi Jews, are not racially Jews at all but descendents from the Turkic tribe of Khazars, whose ruling class and parts of its rank and file population converted to Judaism in the 8th or early 9th century CE. Hence, argue the racialists, Ashkenazi Jews have no rights to live in the racially Semitic Middle East and especially not in the Land of Israel.

Fact and Legend

For Jews, the history of the conversion of the Khazars to Judaism is best known from essays in The Kuzari: In Defense of the Despised Faith, a medieval book composed by the great Spanish poet and philosopher Judah Ha-Levi.

Only part of the book actually deals with the Khazar kingdom, about which little was known, and the historic claims about them in the book are not considered fully reliable.

In any case, The Kuzari purports to report the debates at the Khazar royal court that supposedly led to the Khazar elite’s conversion to Judaism. Other senior Jewish officials in the Spanish Muslim regimes actually corresponded with the Khazar kingdom - most notably Cordova Rabbi Hasdai ibn Shaprut (whose letters have survived). And the great Iraqi sage Saadia Gaon is believed to have maintained correspondence with Jews in the Khazar kingdom.

It is commonly thought that part of the motivation for the Khazars’ conversion was to establish political neutrality for the Khazar kingdom, which faced potential threats from the powers of both Christendom and Islam.

The Khazars themselves left no documentary records. The Arab historian ibn Fadlan wrote about them, but he did so two centuries after the conversions to Judaism had occurred. Some Jews, having sought refuge from Byzantine persecutions, probably lived in the Khazar kingdom long before the conversion of the royalty there.

One ironic historical twist is that the Khazars contributed to the Cyrillic alphabet, in which Russian and some other Slavic languages are written. Saint Cyril came to Khazaria in 860 in an attempt to convert the Khazars to Christianity. Since the Hebrew of the Khazars and Greek were the main alphabets known to St. Cyril and the early Slavs, they borrowed from both.

Western interest in the Khazars was stimulated largely by the 1976 book The Thirteenth Tribe by Arthur Koestler, a writer better known for his lifelong battles against totalitarianism in all its forms. Koestler’s book was largely based on the earlier book The History of the Jewish Khazars, by the historianD.M. Dunlop.

Dunlop rejected the idea that large numbers of Ashkenazi Jews could trace their origins to the Khazars, but not so Koestler. By grossly and sensationally exaggerating the role and numbers of Khazar descendents among European Jewry, Koestler - who was a strong Zionist - inadvertently provided today’s racialist anti-Semites with all the ammunition they could want, and many of them frequently cite his book as the basis for their racialist denunciations of Israel.

A number of more serious books about Khazars are now on the market, including The Jews of Khazaria by Kevin Alan Brook. Rabbi Bernard Rosensweig was one of the leading figures in debunking the Khazar theory of Ashkenazi Jewish origins. Writing in Tradition (16:5, Fall 1977, pages 139-162), he dismissed it as "wobbly scholarly foundations without historical support."

Likewise, the Swedish archaeologist Bozena Werbart, an expert on the Khazars, wrote: "In the Khazar kingdom, Koestler wanted to see the origin of the eastern European Jewry. Nevertheless, all the historical and linguistic facts contradicted his theories."

As The Encyclopedia of Judaism (1989) emphatically states, "The notion that Ashkenazi Jewry is descended from the Khazars has absolutely no basis in fact."

What Became of the Khazars

The actual Khazar kingdom was partly subjugated by the early Russians in the 10th century, and whatever was left was annihilated as a result of the Mongol invasions of Central Asia.

What exactly became of the Khazar Jews is simply not known. Those who retained their Judaism probably integrated themselves into other Jewish communities around the world. Some groups of Khazars joined the Magyar invasion into what became Hungary and may have merged with local Jews already living in those lands; indeed, archeologists have found Jewish stars in the remains of Hungarian Khazar villages.

Small groups of Khazar mercenaries probably found refuge in other places. Most likely the largest integration of Khazar Jews among other Jews took place in Iran and Iraq, the large communities closest to the Khazar kingdom and with whom close ties had been maintained.

(An urban legend holds that red-haired Jews are descended from Khazars, though that could hardly explain King David, not to mention Esau. Arthur Koestler claimed many were blond with blue eyes.)

In any case, Khazar political existence ended a thousand years ago.

So what are we to make of the Khazar myth concerning Ashkenazi Jews and their supposed lack of legitimate claims to Israel due to their Khazar origins? The greatest irony is that even if the entire Khazar theory of Ashkenazi Jews were correct - and virtually none of it is correct - it would be entirely irrelevant. Judaism has never defined Jews on racial grounds. Anyone from any race is welcome as a convert to Judaism as long as he or she is sincere.

The biblical Israelites themselves were already a racial hodgepodge. They absorbed the "mixed multitude" that left Egypt together with them at the time of the Exodus. There are biblical references to Jews of different racial features, including the black-skinned Shulamit mentioned in the Song of Songs.

Jews always defined themselves in religious, ethnic-national and at times linguistic terms, but never along racial lines. If all Ashkenazi Jews were indeed converted Khazars, as the racial anti-Zionists claim, they would be no less legitimately Jews - and, as such, would have the same legitimate claims to the Jewish homeland as any other group of Jews. (Given the traditional Jewish deference to righteous converts, maybe more so.)

Pseudo-History

The actual details of the Khazar theory concerning European Jewry are simply pseudo-history.

Jews already lived in Europe a thousand years before the Khazar kingdom was formed. There are no genetic markers or indicators at all showing that Ashkenazi Jews are descended from Turkic tribes. In fact, there exists considerable genetic evidence showing that European Jews are closer to Levantine and Syrian Arabs than to Central Asians.

After the Mongol invasion most Khazars probably assimilated into the Jewish communities of Iran and Iraq, which of course eventually emerged as important Sephardic centers, formed mainly of Jews with Semitic racial characteristics, descended from migrants and exiled Jews from the Land of Israel. In any case, there are more "Semitic" Sephardic Jews in Israel today than there are European Ashkenazi Jews. And if the Khazars looked Turkic, how on earth could they give Ashkenazi Jews a European complexion?

There are other problems. If all Ashkenazi Jews are descended from converted Khazars, why are there Cohens and Levis among them? One inherits the status of a Cohen (priest) or Levite from one’s father. Descendants of converts through the male line can never be a Cohen or a Levite.

And why are there no Khazar surnames among Ashkenazim, or Khazar names for towns in Europe where Jews lived? And why did most Ashkenazi communities speak variations of Yiddish rather than Turkic?

As mentioned, the popularity of the Khazar myth among anti-Semites represents a return of modern anti-Jewish bigotry to the racialism of the 1930’s and earlier.

Nearly every anti-Semitic and neo-Nazi website denounces Zionists and Israelis as "Khazars." Web chat lists in which Jews defending Israel are dismissed as "Khazar usurpers" are too numerous to count.

The racialism once again in vogue holds that Jews would only have legitimate claims to the right of self-determination in their homeland if they were appropriately Semitic from a racial point of view. Palestine is part of the Semitic racial lebensraum and those who do not possess the correct pure racial markings have no business being there. Racial purity is suddenly the new basis for national rights.

I discovered scores of neo-Nazi websites claiming that "Khazar Zionists" were really behind the 9/11 attacks. I found thousands of websites claiming that "Khazar Jew-pretenders" are in a conspiratorial league with Freemasons, the Vatican, the Illuminati and others to control the world.

Khazar conspiracists go further along these lines by the day; a widely cited Ku Klux Klan website claims that the pro-Israel evangelist Pat Robertson is really a Khazar Jew. The neo-Nazi American Patriots Friends Network claims Khazars are themselves descended from the Magog race and secretly control America.

If we take the racialist argument to its logical conclusion, Palestinian Arabs have the right to exercise all claims to sovereignty in Israel due to their being true racial Jews, while Zionists are non-Jewish Khazars - racial imposters and usurpers.

Arabs themselves are, of course, a mix of racial strains, with a particularly large Caucasian component thanks to Arab intermixing with Spanish and Italian Europeans, Caucasian Berbers, Vandals, Goths, and even some Vikings.

The racialist delegitimizing of Zionism as "Khazar imperialism" is right up there with the "Jesus was a Palestinian" theory and the claim that all real Jews (from a racial point of view) converted to Islam after the Arab conquest of Palestine in the 7th century and so became Palestinian Arabs. One can also find countless websites claiming those things.

Afterword:

This week I published an article on how Neo-Nazis, Palestinian terrorists, and leftist anti-Semites are obsessed with the "Khazar Myth", holding that all Ashkenazi Jews are descendent from Khazar converts to Judaism over a millennium ago. It is a way to delegitimze Israel and Jews:

It is one of the great ironies of the 21st century that anti-Zionists and anti-Semites on both the Left and the Right, have returned to racialist arguments against Jews that most of us thought had died out after World War II.

The "Institute for Historic Review" is a Holocaust Denial Neo-Nazi web site. Here it behaves as a wonderful member of the Axis of Evil, Nazis allied with Arab terrorists, banning together to promote the Khazar Myth:
Furthermore, the Jews of Ashkenazi extraction are descendants of the Khazars, a people of Turkish stock, who occupied an area between the Black and Caspian Seas, a territory now a part of the Soviet Union. The Khazars, originally pagans, had in 740 A.D. embraced Judaism and their descendants, while they may profess the Jewish faith today, cannot claim to be of the "seed of Abraham" and "heirs according to the Promise." The ancestors of those Jews who today immigrate to Palestine from Europe and the Americas and claim Palestine and beyond as their ancestral homeland, came not from Jordan but from the Volga, not from Canaan but from the Caucasus, and that genetically, they are more closely related to the Hun and Magyar than to the seed of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Besides, religion does not confer heritage or property rights on people!

Finally, a Neo-Nazi "blogger" named Kurt Nimmo, who is an unemployed New Mexico conspiracty "theorist", a devotee of Holocaust Denier David Irving, and a regular on the Uruknet web site of exiled Iraqi Baathists, has called ME a Khazar: He wrote: Plaut and his Ashkenazic buddies are actually descended from the Turkic Khazars in eastern Europe, although they like to pretend they are direct descendants of the ancient Hebrews, a Semitic people closer to the Palestinians than Plaut would ever admit. Plaut and his poseur settler friends are a far cry from the ancient Assyrians, Babylonians, Chaldeans, Arameans, Hebrews, and Arabs. They are more akin to English colonists attacking Pequot villages and killing innocent men, women, and children than I will ever be.

Jewish and Middle Eastern non-Jewish populations share a common pool of Y-chromosome biallelic haplotypes

M. F. Hammer...

Despite their long-term residence in different countries and isolation from one another, most Jewish populations were not significantly different from one another at the genetic level... The results support the hypothesis that the paternal gene pools of Jewish communities from Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East descended from a common Middle Eastern ancestral population, and suggest that most Jewish communities have remained relatively isolated from neighboring non-Jewish communities during and after the Diaspora.

Y Chromosome Bears Witness to Story of the Jewish Diaspora
By NICHOLAS WADE
Published: May 9, 2000

With a new technique based on the male or Y chromosome, biologists have traced the diaspora of Jewish populations from the dispersals that began in 586 B.C. to the modern communities of Europe and the Middle East.

The analysis provides genetic witness that these communities have, to a remarkable extent, retained their biological identity separate from their host populations, evidence of relatively little intermarriage or conversion into Judaism over the centuries.

Another finding, paradoxical but unsurprising, is that by the yardstick of the Y chromosome, the world's Jewish communities closely resemble not only each other but also Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese, suggesting that all are descended from a common ancestral population that inhabited the Middle East some four thousand years ago.

Dr. Lawrence H. Schiffman, chairman of the department of Hebrew and Judaic Studies at New York University, said the study fit with historical evidence that Jews originated in the Near East and with biblical evidence suggesting that there were a variety of families and types in the original population.

He said the finding would cause ''a lot of discussion of the relationship of scientific evidence to the manner in which we evaluate long-held academic and personal religious positions,'' like the question of who is a Jew.

The study, reported in today's Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, was conducted by Dr. Michael F. Hammer of the University of Arizona with colleagues in the United States, Italy, Israel, England and South Africa. The results accord with Jewish history and tradition and refute theories like those holding that Jewish communities consist mostly of converts from other faiths, or that they are descended from the Khazars, a medieval Turkish tribe that adopted Judaism.

The analysis by Dr. Hammer and colleagues is based on the Y chromosome, which is passed unchanged from father to son. Early in human evolution, all but one of the Y chromosomes were lost as their owners had no children or only daughters, so that all Y chromosomes today are descended from that of a single genetic Adam who is estimated to have lived about 140,000 years ago...

Abraham's children in the genome era: major Jewish diaspora populations comprise distinct genetic clusters with shared Middle Eastern Ancestry.

G Atzmon, L Hao, I Pe'er, C Velez, A Pearlman, PF Palamara, B Morrow, E Friedman, C Oddoux, E Burns, H Ostrer

For more than a century, Jews and non-Jews alike have tried to define the relatedness of contemporary Jewish people. Previous genetic studies of blood group and serum markers suggested that Jewish groups had Middle Eastern origin with greater genetic similarity between paired Jewish populations. However, these and successor studies of monoallelic Y chromosomal and mitochondrial genetic markers did not resolve the issues of within and between-group Jewish genetic identity. Here, genome-wide analysis of seven Jewish groups (Iranian, Iraqi, Syrian, Italian, Turkish, Greek, and Ashkenazi) and comparison with non-Jewish groups demonstrated distinctive Jewish population clusters, each with shared Middle Eastern ancestry, proximity to contemporary Middle Eastern populations, and variable degrees of European and North African admixture. Two major groups were identified by principal component, phylogenetic, and identity by descent (IBD) analysis: Middle Eastern Jews and European/Syrian Jews. The IBD segment sharing and the proximity of European Jews to each other and to southern European populations suggested similar origins for European Jewry and refuted large-scale genetic contributions of Central and Eastern European and Slavic populations to the formation of Ashkenazi Jewry. Rapid decay of IBD in Ashkenazi Jewish genomes was consistent with a severe bottleneck followed by large expansion, such as occurred with the so-called demographic miracle of population expansion from 50,000 people at the beginning of the 15th century to 5,000,000 people at the beginning of the 19th century. Thus, this study demonstrates that European/Syrian and Middle Eastern Jews represent a series of geographical isolates or clusters woven together by shared IBD genetic threads.

JEWS ARE FROM ISRAEL, SO-CALLED “PALESTINIANS” FROM ARABIA

http://www.think-israel.org/aug06bloged.html#aug06.241

Posted by Palestinian Facts Org, August 29, 2006.

Arabs [propagandists] claim that (some of?) today's Jews aren't really descendants of ancient Israelites and are really converts WITHOUT EVER SHOWING ANY PROOF.

Here's GENETIC PROOF that not only are Jews descendants of the Jews who were exiled from Israel by Romans, but Jews of today have more Israelite genes than Arabs have genes of ancient Arabs. Furthermore, SO-CALLED “palestinians” are originally from Saudi Arabia and Yemen. Go back wherever the hell you came from!

University of Baltimore Study: Jews are originally from northern Middle East (where Israel is located), while SO-CALLED “palestinians” are originally from Saudi Arabia.

The study also says that while Jews are partially the product of mixed-marriages and converts, Jews have about 70% to 80% blood of ancient Israelites, while Arabs have only 50% blood of ancient Arabs. (http://www.ubalt.edu/kulanu/jewishdna.html), National Academy of Sciences: Several lines of evidence support the hypothesis that Diaspora Jews from Europe, Northwest Africa, and the Near East resemble each other more closely than they resemble their non-Jewish neighbors.

Second, despite their high degree of geographic dispersion, Jewish populations from Europe, North Africa, and the Near East were less diverged genetically from each other than any other group of populations in this study (meaning that Jews have more Israelite genes than Arabs have genes of ancient Arabs). Our results indicated a relatively minor contribution of European Y chromosomes to the Ashkenazim. If we assume 80 generations since the founding of the Ashkenazi population, then the rate of admixture would be <0.5%>
Stanford University: If you made a genetic map of Europe and the Middle East and you put Ashkenazi Jews on it, they would not end up in Turkey or in the middle of Europe, but in the Mediterranean.

University of Arizona: We saw such a strong signal of a Middle-Eastern origin in Jews. Jews really are a single ethnic group coming from the Middle East. Even if you look like another European with blue eyes and light skin, your genes are telling that you're from the Middle East.

ABC News: “Jews have preserved their Middle Eastern genetic roots over 4,000 years. Very few non-Jewish European genes have gotten into the Ashkenazi (European and American) Jewish populations. This fascinating book traces the genetic chromosome makeup of the Jewish people and proves their decent from Ancient Israel. It focuses on the DNA makeup of the Kohanim in both Sephardic (Iberian, North African and Middle Eastern Jews) and Ashkenazic( North, East and Central European Jews) communities and shows that the genetic differences between Sephardic and Ashkenazic Jews are minor. I The author shows a marked understanding and knowledge of a number of disciplines.
Rabbi Kleiman explains how the Kohanim and the Jewish people have passed the test of time and of tradition, and tradition has passed the test of science.
Science has proved that Jewish men from communities in the Middle East: Iran, Iraq, Kurds, Yemenites and Roman Jews as well as Ashkenazim/European Jews- all have very similar almost identical profiles.

The author quotes Professor Michael Hammer who comments:

“Despite the long-term residence in different countries and isolation from one another, most Jewish populations were not significantly different from one another at the genetic level. The results support the hypothesis that the paternal gene pools of Jewish communities from Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East descended from a common Middle Eastern ancestral population, and suggest that most Jewish communities have remained relatively isolated from neighboring non-Jewish communities during and after the Diaspora”. The genetic research confirms that most Jews today are indeed the descendants of ancestors who came from the Middle East. Jews everywhere are closely genetically related.
These studies also reveal that there is a closer genetic affinity of Jews to non-Jewish, non- Arab populations in the Middle East, such as Kurds, Turks, Druze and Lebanese Maronites, than to Arabs.

Among the other intriguing findings he has uncovered: that 40% of Ashkenazi Jews can trace their descent to four "founding mothers" who lived in Europe 1,000 years ago, evidence that all Jewish communities share a common paternal origin in the Near East..

The Khazars and The Jews Dr. Thomas Ice

DNA AND THE KHAZARS

[...]
The opinion of historians and genealogists concerning the Khazars is now confirmed with the development of using DNA as a reliable way to analyze one's genealogical heritage. Kevin Alan Brook9 is a leading researcher on the Khazars, and tells us the following:

We no longer need to rely on speculation. It is now a known FACT that German Jews mingled with other Jews when they came east. It is also clear that the ancient Israelites possessed those Y-DNA patterns that are found in common among Sephardic Jews, Ashkenazic Jews, Kurdish Jews, and Indian Jews, despite the fact that ultimately those patterns may have earlier stemmed, in part, from somewhere in Kurdistan or Armenia or Iraq. The Middle Eastern Y-DNA patterns in the J and E haplogroups cannot be explained by Khazars. Some of the mtDNA evidence and Levite Y-DNA can be, however.

Brook's overall conclusion of Khazar origins is as follows:

In summary, Eastern European Jews are descended from a mixture of German and Austrian Jews, Czech Jews, and East Slavic Jews. The East Slavic Jews may haveroots in both the Khazar and Byzantine empires, hence necessitating our further study of Jewish life in those lands. But the largest, and most influential, proportion of Eastern European Jews came from Central Europe. By this analysis we can show that the dominant ethnic element among Eastern European Jews is Judean-the ancient Jewish people of Judea in the Middle East.

CONCLUSION

The Khazar theory has been completely refuted by both scholarly research into the history of the Khazars and, more recently, by genetic evidence showing that Jews from all parts of the world are genetically closely related to Middle Eastern Jews and not so closely related to non-Jewish Russians, Eastern Europeans, or others from that region. "Dr. Michael Hammer showed that based exclusively on the Y- chromosome (parental) shows that Ashkenazi Jews are more closely related to Yemenite Jews, Iraqi Jews, Sephardic Jews, Kurdish Jews, and Arabs than they are to European Christian populations," notes Joel Baine rman. True research on the matter reveals that only a tiny percentage of Jews have any descent through the Khazars. So it appears that the Khazar theory is just that, a theory, and not a very good one. It is safe to conclude that most of the Jews living today in Israel and still in the Diaspora are clear descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob...

Helen Thomas Repeats Khazar Myth by Eternal Hope
Sat Mar 19, 2011 at 09:56 PM PDT

One of the common myths that people have about the Jewish people is that they are descended from the Khazars. Certain people try to bolster this claim because it supports their claim that the Israeli people are not entitled to their land. But this is debunked here. Helen Thomas repeated this myth when she said in her Playboy interview that the Jews were not a Semitic people.

There was, in fact, a Khazar kingdom on the Russian stepps north of the Byzantine and Islamic empires. Their rulers and many of their people converted to Judaism as a counterweight against both of these kingdoms. But when the Khazar Khanite died out, most of the Jews scattered and were assimilated into other populations. Mainstream scholarship, however, has debunked the notion that most of today's Jews were descended from the Khazar Khanite:

And the fact of the matter is that Judaism has never been defined along racial lines -- in the Bible, the Ethiopian who rescued Jeremiah from death in the King's dungeon was Jewish. People from all over the world came to the Passover Feast while the Temple was still in existence. Judaism has never been defined on racial grounds -- people from all races are welcome as converts.

Plaut continues:

One inherits the status of a Cohen (priest) or Levite from one's father. Descendants of converts through the male line can never be a Cohen or a Levite.

And why are there no Khazar surnames among Ashkenazim, or Khazar names for towns in Europe where Jews lived? And why did most Ashkenazi communities speak variations of Yiddish rather than Turkic?

Although it is used by certain white supremacist groups to justify their hateful theories, these theories are simply not true.

What all this means is that historically, every people has a right to self-determination. Even if we claim based on the fact that Herodotus didn't mention any Jews in present-day Israel that there were no Jews there, we do know they were there in the first century AD. And older archeological discoveries point to the existence of the House of David. There have been other remains which date back to the time of David as well.

The other claim is that the Temple was actually rebuilt by the Muslims. But that ignores the fact that for 2000 years, the Jews have had no physical Temple to worship at since the Romans destroyed the last one.

Since the Jewish people have the right to self-determination under international law and since Israel has been the historic homeland of the Jewish people, we cannot, as Helen Thomas naively assumes, just expect them to go back to wherever they came from before they emigrated to Israel. That is why we have to have a two-state solution -- since we are dealing with the historic homeland of the Jewish and Palestinian peoples, we have to find some way to share the land and figure out a way to deal with the refugees from the 1948 war as well as their descendants.

What Helen Thomas did was fail to live up to her own profession's standards for accuracy and fairness:

I believe that clear thinking and clear statement, accuracy and fairness are fundamental to good journalism.

I believe that a journalist should write only what he holds in his heart to be true.

Helen Thomas had a professional responsibility to state the facts regardless of whether or not they upheld her personal beliefs. In this instance, she failed to do so.

REFUTING MODERN ANTI-SEMITISM: The myth that all Jews are Khazars (from 700-1000 A.D. who never lived in Palestine)
Posted by barrypopik (Diary)

Refuting anti-Semitism is a seemingly thankless and daily chore in this age of the internet. The Khazar myth (that Ashkenazi “Jews” are really converted Khazars from 700-1000 A.D.) has been popping up all over recently. A good refutation is nary anywhere, but we’ll look at some new DNA evidence to trace the Ashkenazi genealogical line–blowing the Khazar myth to smithereens.

If Helen Thomas only knew, she’d have said “Send ‘em back to Khazaria!” and all would have been well in anti-Semite land. Even better, the Khazars aren’t Semites!

KHAZAR ANTI-SEMITISM ON YOUTUBE
The Khazarian Conspiracy (12 parts, from August 1, 2009) seems to have added a part and become The Khazarian Supremacy (13 YouTube parts, from May 13, 2010). I’ve seen all parts. Iran’s leader is building a “peaceful” nuclear device. Farrakhan is presented as a spokesman for peace. The Jews started World War I, World War II, and are going to lead us into World War III. Holocaust “revisionist” David Cole makes an extended appearance, without a single contradiction from anyone. Oh, did I tell you that they’re really not “Jews” at all, but Khazars from between the Caspian and Black Seas?

The YouTube title Alex Jones Talks about Jews that are really Khazars. Part 1 has had over 37,000 views.

The six-part YouTube title KHAZAR EMPIRE,ILLUMINATI & THE NEW WORLD ORDER part 1 consists of Jack Otto at a Ron Paul for President 2008 meeting, spouting the same anti-Semitic garbage as some of the videos above. Maybe Ron Paul isn’t an anti-Semite, but anti-Semites sure seem to love him.

Also on YouTube (and on the same side as Ron Paul) is Iran, with Iran TV – Khazar Ashkenazi “Jews” (ENG SUB).

The only mild YouTube rebuke is one young fellow’s Am I khazar? (from September 22, 2007) and his Enough with the Khazars already! (from May 23, 2008), where he reads DNA information straight from Wikipedia.

BENJAMIN FREEDMAN’S 1961 SPEECH, DEBUNKED
This whole thing was popularized by a
Benjamin H. Freedman (1890-1984) speech at the Willard Hotel in 1961, on YouTube as Benjamin H Freedman The Khazars. Freedman was associated with Henry Morganthau (Jr. and Sr.); Freedman converted from Judaism to Roman Catholicism.

In Freedman’s 1961 Willard Hotel speech (online here as “The Amazing Warnings of Benjamin Freedman”), he accuses the “Jews” of starting WWI, WWII, and being really Khazars (or fake Jews).

The U.S. entered WWI solely because of influential turncoat Zionist “Jews” who wanted and got the Balfour Declaration:

While that was going on, the Zionists in Germany, who represented the Zionists from Eastern Europe, went to the British War Cabinet and — I am going to be brief because it’s a long story, but I have all the documents to prove any statement that I make — they said: “Look here. You can yet win this war. You don’t have to give up. You don’t have to accept the negotiated peace offered to you now by Germany. You can win this war if the United States will come in as your ally.” The United States was not in the war at that time. We were fresh; we were young; we were rich; we were powerful. They told England: “We will guarantee to bring the United States into the war as your ally, to fight with you on your side, if you will promise us Palestine after you win the war.” In other words, they made this deal: “We will get the United States into this war as your ally. The price you must pay is Palestine after you have won the war and defeated Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Turkey.” Now England had as much right to promise Palestine to anybody, as the United States would have to promise Japan to Ireland for any reason whatsoever. It’s absolutely absurd that Great Britain, that never had any connection or any interest or any right in what is known as Palestine should offer it as coin of the realm to pay the Zionists for bringing the United States into the war. However, they did make that promise, in October of 1916. And shortly after that — I don’t know how many here remember it — the United States, which was almost totally pro-German, entered the war as Britain’s ally. (…)The Balfour Declaration was merely Great Britain’s promise to pay the Zionists what they had agreed upon as a consideration for getting the United States into the war. So this great Balfour Declaration, that you hear so much about, is just as phony as a three dollar bill.

Freedman insists that the Jews never had it so good than in Germany, but he conveniently ignores this (from Wikipedia):

Wilhelm Marr (1819, Magdeburg – 1904) was a German agitator and publicist, who coined the term “antisemitism”.

And if the Jews were sell-outs, no one told that to the Jews who died fighting for Germany (from Wikipedia):

A higher percentage of German Jews fought in World War I than that of any other ethnic, religious or political group in Germany; some 12,000 died for their country. Ironically, it was a Jewish lieutenant, Hugo Gutmann, who awarded the Iron Cross, First Class, to a 29-year-old corporal named Adolf Hitler. When Hitler came to power in 1933, Gutmann left Germany and escaped to the United States.

In October 1916, the German Military High Command administered Judenzählung (census of Jews). Designed to confirm accusations of the lack of patriotism among German Jews, the census disproved the charges, but its results were not made public. Denounced as a “statistical monstrosity”, the census was a catalyst to intensified antisemitism and social myths such as the “stab-in-the-back legend” (Dolchstosslegende).

Freedman says that a late-1933 Jewish boycott of German goods had crippled the country and started the anti-Semitism:

After a while, the Jews of the world called a meeting in Amsterdam. Jews from every country in the world attended this meeting in July 1933. And they said to Germany: “You fire Hitler, and you put every Jew back into his former position, whether he was a Communist or no matter what he was. You can’t treat us that way. And we, the Jews of the world, are serving an ultimatum upon you.” You can imagine what the Germans told them. So what did the Jews do?

In 1933, when Germany refused to surrender to the world conference of Jews in Amsterdam, the conference broke up, and Mr. Samuel Untermyer, who was the head of the American delegation and the president of the whole conference, came to the United States and went from the steamer to the studios of the Columbia Broadcasting System and made a radio broadcast throughout the United States in which he in effect said, “The Jews of the world now declare a Holy War against Germany. We are now engaged in a sacred conflict against the Germans. And we are going to starve them into surrender. We are going to use a world-wide boycott against them. That will destroy them because they are dependent upon their export business.”

Freedman conveniently leaves out these earlier developments in Germany in 1933 (from Wikipedia):

In 1933, persecution of the Jews became active Nazi policy, but at first laws were not as rigorously obeyed or as devastating as in later years. Such clauses, known as Aryan paragraphs, had been postulated previously by antisemites and enacted in many private organizations.

On April 1, 1933, Jewish doctors, shops, lawyers and stores were boycotted. Only six days later, the Law for the Restoration of the Professional Civil Service was passed, banning Jews from being employed in government. This law meant that Jews were now indirectly and directly dissuaded or banned from privileged and upper-level positions reserved for “Aryan” Germans. From then on, Jews were forced to work at more menial positions, beneath non-Jews.

So the Jews brought on WWI hatred for fighting for Germany, and WWII hatred for a 1933 boycott in response to Nazi actions.

To hit the argument out of the park, Freedman brings up the Khazar “fake-Jew” myth that has endured to this day:

What are the facts about the Jews? (I call them Jews to you, because they are known as “Jews”. I don’t call them Jews myself. I refer to them as “so-called Jews”, because I know what they are). The eastern European Jews, who form 92 per cent of the world’s population of those people who call themselves “Jews”, were originally Khazars. They were a warlike tribe who lived deep in the heart of Asia. And they were so warlike that even the Asiatics drove them out of Asia into eastern Europe. They set up a large Khazar kingdom of 800,000 square miles. At the time, Russia did not exist, nor did many other European countries. The Khazar kingdom was the biggest country in all Europe — so big and so powerful that when the other monarchs wanted to go to war, the Khazars would lend them 40,000 soldiers. That’s how big and powerful they were.

They were phallic worshippers, which is filthy and I do not want to go into the details of that now. But that was their religion, as it was also the religion of many other pagans and barbarians elsewhere in the world. The Khazar king became so disgusted with the degeneracy of his kingdom that he decided to adopt a so-called monotheistic faith — either Christianity, Islam, or what is known today as Judaism, which is really Talmudism. By spinning a top, and calling out “eeny, meeny, miney, moe,” he picked out so-called Judaism. And that became the state religion. He sent down to the Talmudic schools of Pumbedita and Sura and brought up thousands of rabbis, and opened up synagogues and schools, and his people became what we call “Jews”.

See, I’m just a “fake Jew” because of “eeny, meeny, miney, moe,” played over a thousand years ago!

There wasn’t one of them who had an ancestor who ever put a toe in the Holy Land. Not only in Old Testament history, but back to the beginning of time. Not one of them! And yet they come to the Christians and ask us to support their armed insurrections in Palestine by saying, “You want to help repatriate God’s Chosen People to their Promised Land, their ancestral home, don’t you? It’s your Christian duty. We gave you one of our boys as your Lord and Savior. You now go to church on Sunday, and you kneel and you worship a Jew, and we’re Jews.”

Not one Jew can be traced back to Palestine, Mr. Freedman? (We’ll discuss DNA evidence in just a bit.)

WIKIPEDIA ON “KHAZARS”
From Wikipedia:

The Khazars (Turkic Dialect:Xazarlar) were a semi-nomadic Turkic people who dominated the Pontic steppe and the North Caucasus from the 7th to the 10th century. The name “Khazar” seems to be tied to a Turkic verb form meaning “wandering”.

In the 7th century, the Khazars founded an independent Khaganate in the Northern Caucasus along the Caspian Sea. Although the Khazars were initially Tengri shamanists, many converted to the Abrahamic faiths through interaction with the Byzantine Empire and successive Islamic caliphates; during the 8th or 9th century, the Khaganate adopted Judaism as the state religion. At their height, the Khazars and their tributaries controlled much of what is today southern Russia, western Kazakhstan, eastern Ukraine, Azerbaijan, large portions of the Northern Caucasus (Circassia, Dagestan, Chechnya), parts of Georgia, the Crimea, and Northeastern Turkey.

Between 965 and 969, their sovereignty was broken by Sviatoslav I of Kiev, and they became a subject people of Kievan Rus’. Gradually displaced by the Rus, the Kipchaks, and later the conquering Mongol Golden Horde, the Khazars largely disappeared as a culturally distinct people.

SHLOMO SAND’S “THE INVENTION OF THE JEWISH PEOPLE” (2009)
A popular book among the anti-Israel crowd has been Shlomo Sand’s The Invention of the Jewish People (2009). From
Amazon.com:

Shlomo Sand argues that most Jews actually descend from converts, whose native lands were scattered far across the Middle East and Eastern Europe. (…) After a long stay on Israel’s bestseller list, and winning the coveted Aujourd’hui Award in France, The Invention of the Jewish People is finally available in English.

The book has 28 5-star reviews, 24 1-star reviews, and very little in-between. From one review:

In brief, Sand contends a number of things: “pure” Jews don’t exist; Israel and Judea were puny; the Bible is 100% fiction; Jews today are no different than any other people; there is no such thing as a “race” or a “nation”; many ancient pagans became Jews; many Jews later became Muslim, including the Palestinians; historians prefer to accept the Bible as fact and ignore true science–in an effort to justify the state.

Here’s a one-star review:

Premise of This Book Proven False, June 12, 2010
By B. Judell “I’m Not Cocteau” (New York City)
In today’s New York Times ([...]), the whole premise of this work has proven to be garbage.

Jews share common genes. Nicholas Wade’s article, “Studies Show Jews’ Genetic Similarity,” states: “The two [new] genome surveys extend earlier studies based just on the Y chromosome, the genetic element carried by all men. They refute the suggestion made last year by the historian Shlomo Sand in his book “The Invention of the Jewish People” that Jews have no common origin but are a miscellany of people in Europe and Central Asia who converted to Judaism at various times.

Jewish communities from Europe, the Middle East and the Caucasus all have substantial genetic ancestry that traces back to the Levant; Ethiopian Jews and two Judaic communities in India are genetically much closer to their host populations.”

Let’s hope no one else believes Sand’s fantasies.

Another one-star review:

Too Much Nonsense, May 1, 2010
By D. E. Bernstein
Anyone who believes, against all genetic and linguistic evidence, that Ashkenazic Jews are descended primarily from Khazars, and the contrary evidence is a product of a Zionist conspiracy among geneticists, is not writing anything worth reading.

Another one-star review:

Propaganda, Not History, October 30, 2009
By random book reader “his-torybuff”
(1) DNA evidence shows that on their paternal side Ashkenazi Jews are primarily descended from the Middle East, not from Khazars or other indigenous European peoples
(2) There is no trace of any Turkic language in the language spoken by Eastern European Jews, Yiddish
(3) The idea of Jewish peoplehood, and the longing for a return to Zion long predates modern political Zionism. For examples, for centuries, every Passover Jews say “Next Year in Jerusalem.”

Sand is a leftist, ex-communist professor of French literature with no prior expertise in the relevant subject matter, no knowledge of the languages needed to do research on many of the topics covered in his book, and a propagandist of the first order. He won a French prize for non-fiction, but it should have been a French prize for fiction.

Tel Aviv University’s Shlomo Sand and the Neo-Nazi Theory about the Khazars
Last year I published an article entitled “The Khazar Myth and the New
Anti-Semitism.” It dealt with the myth, popular these days on Neo-Nazi
web sites, claiming that Ashkenazi Jews are not decendent from Jews at all
but are “Khazars” who are nothing more than interlopers in the Land of
Israel, people who cannot claim the land as their ancestral homeland. The
article can be read here:

http://www.jewishpress.com/displayContent_new.cfm?mode=a&contentid=21499&+contentName=The+Khazar+Myth+and+the+New+Anti-Semitism

Meanwhile, one of the very worst members of Israel’s Tenured Left,
Professor Shlomo Sand from Tel Aviv University, has a new “book”
in which he insists that Jews were never a nation and cannot be
considered one today, unlike Palestinians – who of course have been a
nation since the Big Bang. Sand is a malicious anti-Zionist and a
evidently a communist (he endorsed Stalinist HADASH). But his
new “book” clearly establishes him as a leading academic anti-Semite in
Israel.

From the blog Jewlicious (June 4, 2010):

Should Shlomo Sand offer a refund on his book now that another study has refuted it?
Written by themiddle
Shlomo Sand has been discussed on these pages before. However, his book still garnered immense attention, at least one very prestigious prize, a place on some bestseller lists, translation into numerous languages and the authority which comes with such success. There is one particularly telling Youtube video of a talk that he gave where he is challenged by a Jewish member of the audience and takes him apart by commenting that the gentleman doesn’t actually belong to the Jewish people since there is no such thing.

When challenged regarding DNA results that suggest that his thesis that the Jews are really descended from the Khazars and other groups, Sand was quick to dismiss those claims, suggesting that the studies point to other conclusions or are flawed. Yet now another study has been published that also refutes his thesis.

KHAZAR MYTH AND THE DNA EVIDENCE
Agaiin from
Jewlicious (June 4, 2010):

You Mean I’m Not a Khazar?
Written by larry
Yesterday, The American Journal of Human Genetics (Cell.com) published a paper titled, Abraham’s Children in the Genome Era: Major Jewish Diaspora Populations Comprise Distinct Genetic Clusters with Shared Middle Eastern Ancestry. The authors are mostly affiliated with Albert Einstein, NYU, and Columbia Medical Schools in NYC. They are Gil Atzmon, Li Hao, Itsik Pe’er, Christopher Velez, Alexander Pearlman, Pier Francesco Palamara, Bernice Morrow, Eitan Friedman, Carole Oddoux, Edward Burns, and Harry Ostrer. In an effort to define the relatedness of contemporary Jewish people (European, Mizrahi and Sephardim), the authors conducted a genome-wide analysis of seven Jewish groups (Iranian, Iraqi, Syrian, Italian, Turkish, Greek, and Ashkenazi) (they left out the eighth, which is called Brooklynite) and compared them with surrounding non-Jewish groups and found that their are distinctive Jewish population clusters, each with shared Middle Eastern ancestry, proximity to contemporary Middle Eastern populations, and variable degrees of European and North African admixture.

Two major groups were identified by using principal component, phylogenetic, and identity by descent (IBD) analyses. They are Middle Eastern Jews and European/Syrian Jews. The results suggested suggested similar origins for European Jewry and refuted large-scale genetic contributions of Central and Eastern European and Slavic populations to the formation of Ashkenazi Jewry.

A check on Google News for “Abraham’s Children in the Genome Era” shows a mere six citations. If the study proved that Jews are really Khazars, don’t you think Reuters and AP would splash that all over the world?

From the blog Wizbang:

Note to Helen Thomas (and others): Jews are home in Israel
Posted by Rick
Published: June 13, 2010 – 4:16 PM
Genetic testing suggests that Ms. Thomas is full of crap… but sensible people knew this already:

Two new genome studies of Jews worldwide prove that the Jewish people — long called the “People of the Book,” the “Chosen People” or, in unkind circles, “those people” — are, indeed, a people after all.

The first study, by researchers at New York’s Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University, found that Jews across the globe share distinct genetic traits that are different from other groups and that trace back to the ancient Middle East.

Researchers say the study, published in the American Journal of Human Genetics, puts to rest age-old questions about whether Jews are a group of unrelated people who share a religious ideology or a distinct ethnicity with common ancestry.

“The debate is over,” said Dr. Edward R. Burns, one of the lead authors of the study. “The Jewish people are one people with a common genetic thread that evolved in the second or third century BC.”

The study, “Abraham’s Children in the Genome Era,” compared the genetic analyses of 237 Jews, including Sephardic (Middle Eastern) and Ashkenazi (Eastern European) Jews — as well as an analysis of 418 non-Jews worldwide, and found that the Jews were more closely related to each other than to their fellow countrymen.

Past studies have reached similar conclusions, but they looked at smaller populations and considered only blood groups, mitochondrial DNA (a type of DNA passed down by mothers) or Y chromosomes (passed down by fathers).

For this inquiry, researchers conducted a genome-wide analysis of the major groups of the Jewish Diaspora — Ashkenazi Jews; Italian, Greek and Turkish Sephardic Jews; and Iranian, Iraqi and Syrian Jews.

The study — and a second genetic study published Friday in the journal Nature — scientifically undermines arguments made by those who challenge Jews’ historical relationship to Israel, such as former White House correspondent Helen Thomas, who resigned last week after saying Jews in Israel should “go home” to Germany, Poland and the United States.

Turns out, the Jews in Israel are already there.

From The Jewish Chronicle:

Jews share a ‘genetic signature’
By Paul Berger, June 17, 2010
Jewishness is not just in your heart or in your soul, it’s also in your genes.

A new study carried out by geneticists in New York and Tel Aviv suggests that Jews have a particular genetic signature.

Geneticist Harry Ostrer, of New York University, said that within specific communities, such as Ashkenazim or Sephardim, Jews are as closely related as fourth or fifth cousins.

Furthermore, Dr Ostrer, lead author of the study titled Abraham’s Children in the Genome Era, said all Jews have a common Middle Eastern ancestry.

SUMMARY
“There wasn’t one of them who had an ancestor who ever put a toe in the Holy Land. Not only in Old Testament history, but back to the beginning of time. Not one of them!”–Benjamin Freedman, 1961.

Scientifically proven wrong this past month.

A Google check for “Khazars” + “Jews” shows 369,000 results, with Google Blogs showing 16,500 hits.

A check for “Khazars” on Alex Jones’s website Infowars.com shows two pages of hits, including statements like this one: “Another step by the Ashkenazi Khazars in their march to a one world order run and controlled by Jews.” And this one: “we been lied to the black people of america are the real israelites and these “so called jews” you speak of are khazars & edomites do your research.” Alex Jones has not seen fit to run a single link to the latest genome research.

So…now that we know the truth that Jews do indeed come from the Middle East, we’ll see an end to this “Khazar” anti-Semitism, right?

Right?

What’s the difference? (between the male and female versions), I don't remember was a decade ago when I read Pavic. I just thought to mention him to show there is literature around the Khazars. As I recall it is a very complex work, complete with a crossword puzzle ...

I read Koestler's book, but was quite dissapointed by it, having read the source he misused, The History of the Jewish Khazars by D. M. Dunlop.

It isn't just antisemites who like to call Jews Khazars. There are some Russophile Jews who like to claim to be Khazars. Their Facebook group is interesting. They have't quite ever bothered to check out Russian history, or they would know that the Khazars wer the bogey men for the first 200 years, to say nothing of Soviet revisionism that had Khazars as the 1% and Varangians being the revolutionary vanguard of a slavic revolt against their oppressors. This was pretty much Stalin's theory.

That British Israelism crap is analogous, and in some cases directly descended from it. 25 or 30 years ago, here in Michigan, there was a cult which its leader named the “Black Hebrew Israelite Jews”, and claimed that the Old Testament Hebrews were actually black African.

There was a crew of those "Black Israelite" idiots who used to hang out on the sidewalk here maybe five years ago, haranguing passersby. Eventually they moved on.

The guy I encountered here was off on a rant about how the American Civil War was caused by the Rothschilds, who, incidentially, aren't real Jews. And it went on from there.

Even if the myth that European Jews were descended from Khazars was true, why should that disqualify them from immigration to Palestine?

Israel was legally created. They can accept whomever they like as citizens, even if the applicants fail some Nazi style blood purity test.

Just FYI, there is a famous Jewish book called ‘The Kuzari’. Some Jewish religious scholars believe that there was no mass conversion of Khazars at all, the story being a pretext for this philosophical treatise on the superiority of Judaism. Such scholars believed this long before the DNA evidence proved the legend is, at least, mostly untrue.

Benjamin Freedman was a well known Islamo Fascist supporter. I read this great article which showed what a liar he was and how he made up stuff. http://bluwiki.com/go/The_Benjamin_Freedman_Speech Twenty Five Lies of Benjamin Freedman (1) Christian boys are going to be yanked out of their homes, away from their families, and sent abroad to fight in Palestine against the Christian and Moslem Arabs who merely want to return to their homes." In the forty-six years since this speech was delivered, not one U.S. soldier has fought in Israel or the Palestinian territories. (2) "The United States will trigger World War III." Hasn't happened yet. (3) "[T]he Arab nations called a meeting in Lebanon and there they decided to resurrect, or reactivate, the government of Palestine, which has been dormant more or less, since the 1948 armed insurrection by the Zionists." There was never a Palestinian government to resurrect. Nominal political control over the Palestinian people had been exercised by Amin Al-Husseini, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, but this was during the period that Palestine was still a British colony. That mandate expired on May 15, 1948, and the same day, Israel declared its statehood. The Palestinians, by contrast, when the war was over, were occupied by either Egypt (in the Gaza strip) or Jordan (in the West Bank and East Jerusalem). Neither power offerered the Palestinians autonomy, much less statehoof. King Abdullah of Jordan never even entertained the idea. Gamal Abdel Nasser of Egypt made moves toward an "All-Palestine Government," but didn't act against Israel militarily until 1967 -- six years after Freedman gave this speech. (4) "Within two years Germany had won that war [World War I]: not alone won it nominally, but won it actually." Freedman claims that before August 1, 1916, Germany had won the World War I. This is simply not true. Germany was fighting a two-front war during World War I. Plus it had soldiers deployed in the Middle East to assist the Ottoman Turks, who were losing badly and would continue to lose until all their territory was gone. During the period that Freedman is discussing, Germany was fighting the combined forces of France and the British Empire (Canadian, Indian, South African, and ANZAC troops were there also) at the Battle of the Somme. The battle went from July 1, 1916, to November 18, 1916, and was declared a stalemate. Losses for both sides were about equal, which means Germany actually lost more troops because it was fighting alone on its own side. At the same time, beginning before the Battle of the Somme and ending afterwards, the Germans lost to the French at Verdun, though they sustained fewer casualties. The losses for Germany were so severe that she changed her position on the Western front from offensive to defensive, which remained the case until surrender in November 1918. Germany did rather better on the Eastern Front, driving into Poland and ultimately leading to the tsar's overthrow in March 1917. But Germany was still fighting Russia in the summer of 1916, as well as in the Middle East with the Turks. (5) "At that time, the French army had mutinied. They lost 600,000 of the flower of French youth in the defense of Verdun on the Somme. The Russian army was defecting. They were picking up their toys and going home, they didn't want to play war anymore, they didn't like the Czar. And the Italian army had collapsed." Neither the French troops nor the Russian troops had mutinied at the time Freedman says they did. French losses at Verdun were around 150,000 -- not 600,000, as Freedman claims. If the Italian army had collapses, that would be a surprise to the Italian soldiers at the Battle or Gorizia, where the Italians defeated Austria-Hungary in eleven days. (6) "[T]he Zionists in London went to the British war cabinet and they said: 'Look here. You can yet win this war. You don't have to give up. You don't have to accept the negotiated peace offered to you now by Germany. You can win this war if the United States will come in as your ally.'" There's a staggering amount of disinformation in here. First, there was no German peace offer, and if there were, it would have been coming from a position of weakness to better fight on their Eastern Front. (7) "They [Zionists] told England: 'We will guarantee to bring the United States into the war as your ally, to fight with you on your side, if you will promise us Palestine after you win the war.'" This is very interesting given the actual state of affairs in the Middle East at that time. England and France had already divided up the Ottoman holdings in the Middle East. In fact, they had done so the previous year -- with the Sykes-Picot Agreement (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sykes-Picot_Agreement). It hadn't promised Palestine to anyone -- it had left it an issue to be decided in the future. (8) "However, they [the British] made that promise, in October of 1916" I have no idea where Freedman gets this date, given that the Sykes-Picot Agreement had been signed in May 1916, and it contravened the only other possible offer on the table at the time, which was the promise by Henry McMahon, British High Commissioner in Egypt, to Sharif Hussein of Mecca (father of Abdullah I of Jordan) that Arab nationalism would be realized with the defeat of the Turks. However, none of McMahon's correspondence ever promises him Palestine. (9) "Well, shortly after that, Mr. Wilson declared war on Germany." Actually it was six months later, on April 6, 1917, and it was Congress that declared war, the President not being allowed by the Constitution of the United States to do so. The U.S. declared war on Austria-Hungary in December, with less than a year left in the war. Notably, the U.S. never declared war on the Ottomans? Why not? Because they were finished by then. Given that it was the Ottomans who controlled Palestine up to this point, how could U.S. entry have secured this if it came so late? The answer is that it couldn't. Moreover, Freedman completely ignores the importance of the Zimmermann Telegram, a communique sent by the German Foreign Minister, Arthur Zimmermann, to Mexico, urging it to form an alliance against the U.S. This was the smoking gun that led the U.S. into the war. Interventionism was the result of the fear of the Germans (who, remember, were not winning the war -- the telegram dates from January 1917) that the U.S. would enter to stake territory for its Allies. There was, after all, already an Allied Expeditionary Force of American soldiers fighting in Europe. (10) "After we got into the war, the Zionists went to Great Britain and they said: â??Well, we performed our part of the agreement. Let's have something in writing that shows that you are going to keep your bargain and give us Palestine after you win the war.â?? Because they didn't know whether the war would last another year or another ten years. So they started to work out a receipt. The receipt took the form of a letter, and it was worded in very cryptic language so that the world at large wouldn't know what it was all about. And that was called the Balfour Declaration." So according to Freedman's chronology, in October 1916, the British promise the Zionists Palestine, it takes them six months to get us into the war, but the Balfour Declaration still wasn't issued until seven months after we declared war on Germany. This doesn't add up. (11) "Now, when the war was ended, and the Germans went to Paris, to the Paris Peace Conference in 1919, there were 117 Jews there, as a delegation representing the Jews, headed by Bernard Baruch. I was there: I ought to know." Well, Bernard Baruch was certainly at the Paris Peace Conference, but where this figure of 116 other Jews as a separate delegation (Baruch was with the American delegation; after all, he was head of the War Industries Board). As for Freedman being there, I have yet to see a single independent source that verifies he was there. Not one. (12) "The Jews at that peace conference, when they were cutting up Germany and parceling out Europe to all these nations that claimed a right to a certain part of European territory, the Jews said, 'How about Palestine for us?'" Well, first of all, the land that was cut out of Germany was land that was, with very few exceptions, populated by non-German people, e.g., Poland. Austria ceded Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia, these being Slavic nations whereas Austria was and is a Germanic nation. But the real kicker is that the "Jewish delegation" demanded Palestine at this point. While it is true that an important agreement on Palestine was made at this point, it was not made between Bernard Baruch and the British government, as Freedman would have us believe. Rather, the agreement was made between Chaim Weizmann and the leader of the Arab delegation. Weizmann was of course a Zionist but a British citizen -- not one of these virtually nonexistent German Zionists that we're told about. Freedman doesn't tell us about the Arab delegation, but it was led by Sharif Hussein's other son, Faisal, who would become the first King of Iraq. You can read the agreement here: http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/History/faisaltext.html So Britain didn't hand Palestine over to the Zionists. Ultimately, it was Faisal that did. (13) "And they produced, for the first time to the knowledge of the Germans, this Balfour Declaration. So the Germans, for the first time realized, 'Oh, that was the game! That's why the United States came into the war.' And the Germans for the first time realized that they were defeated, they suffered this terrific reparation that was slapped onto them, because the Zionists wanted Palestine and they were determined to get it at any cost." Given that the New York Times published news of the Balfour Declaration a mere twelve days after the declaration was issued, it was a known agreement by the time of the Paris Peace Conference. (There were two more stories in the Times alone before the Peace Conference began.) In other words, Freedman was lying. Notably, it is on the basis of this lie that Freedman then argues that the Germans were justified in their hatred of Jews. He ignores all evidence of German anti-Semitism between 1871 and 1919. (14) "When Germany realized that the Jews were responsible for her defeat, they naturally resented it. But not a hair on the head of any Jew was harmed. Not a single hair. Professor Tansill, of Georgetown University, who had access to all the secret papers of the State Department, wrote in his book, and quoted from a State Department document written by Hugo Schoenfelt, a Jew who Cordell Hull sent to Europe in 1933 to investigate the so-called camps of political prisoners. And he wrote back that he found them in very fine condition." In 1933, the only people in concentration camps were political prisoners and not Jews. More on this below. (15) "They were in excellent shape; everybody treated well. And they were filled with Communists. Well, a lot of them were Jews, because the Jews happened to be maybe 98 per cent of the Communists in Europe at that time." That's an exaggeration obviously, but even more so for 1933 in Germany. The KPD (Communist Party) in Germany was led by Ernst Thaelmann, a Gentile. He was arrested and put in Dachau in 1933 and kept in solitary confinement until Hitler had him shot in 1944. But Jews in Germany tended not to vote for the KPD, despite its quite excellent returns in the elections between 1929 and 1932 (it always polled in the top three parties). Most Jews in Germany voted instead for the SPD, the Social-Democratic Party of Germany. This was not a communist party. An illustrative example can be made with the situation in the Soviet Union, where far more leaders of the Communist Party there were Jews. Even conceding that this is the case, the vast majority of Jews in Russia between March 1917 and November 1917, when the Bolsheviks seized power, were not in communist parties. They tended to be either in Zionist parties or in the Jewish Bund or the PSR (social democrats). These latter two parties were the only parties in the USSR condemn the Bolshevik coup in the Congress of Deputies that had been established after the tsar had been overthrown. Germany had even fewer Jews and, given the explanation already given that their living standard was better in Germany and that they fled there from Russia in 1905, it is not unreasonable to conclude that fewer Jews were communists in Germany than in Russia, particularly in 1933. (16) "Well, I don't want to go by what they were called. We're now using English words, and what they were called in Germany is not very material. . . but they were Communists, because in 1917, the Communists took over Germany for a few days." As already demonstrated, the KPD existed in Germany, as did the SPD, and their platforms were so different, in fact, that the KPD refused to join SPD-led governments. (17) "Nevertheless, the Jews of the world declared a boycott against Germany, and it was so effective that you couldn't find one thing in any store anywhere in the world with the words 'made in Germany' on it." The Untermeyer boycott was so incredibly ineffective that Germany had experienced complete economic recovery by 1937. (18) "The Jews -- I call them Jews to you, because they are known as Jews. I don't call them Jews. I refer to them as so-called Jews, because I know what they are. If Jesus was a Jew, there isn't a Jew in the world today, and if those people are Jews, certainly our Lord and Savior was not one of them, and I can prove that." The largest Christian organization in the world is the Roman Catholic Church. In his 1965 encyclical Nostra Aetate , Pope Paul VI wrote, "The Church keeps ever in mind the words of the Apostle about his kinsmen: "theirs is the sonship and the glory and the covenants and the law and the worship and the promises; theirs are the fathers and from them is the Christ according to the flesh" (Rom. 9:4-5), the Son of the Virgin Mary. She also recalls that the Apostles, the Church's main-stay and pillars, as well as most of the early disciples who proclaimed Christ's Gospel to the world, sprang from the Jewish people." I think the Pope probably can speak on greater authority on these matters than Freedman. (19) "The eastern European Jews, who form 92 per cent of the world's population of those people who call themselves Jews, were originally Khazars." While there is no doubt that the Khazarian Empire adopted Judaism as its official religion and that this empire stretched into parts of Eastern Europe, there was still a settlement of Jews along the Rhine Valley that pre-dated the Khazars. They did not emigrate to Poland and points east of there until the 16th century, long after the Khazars were gone. These Jews spoke Yiddish, which is based on German, whereas the Khazars spoke a Turkish language. Furthermore, genetic tests conducted in the last two years indicate that the vast majority of Jews derive from only four women, and that the priestly tribe of Jews, the kohenim, share a Middle Eastern common ancestor. (20) "When, on the Day of Atonement, you walk into a synagogue, the very first prayer that you recite, you stand -- and it's the only prayer for which you stand -- and you repeat three times a short prayer. The Kol Nidre. In that prayer, you enter into an agreement with God Almighty that any oath, vow, or pledge that you may make during the next twelve months -- any oath, vow or pledge that you may take during the next twelve months shall be null and void." The Kol Nidrey nullifies only vows made to God. This is one of the oldest libels against Judaism and has been disproven repeatedly. (21) "And further than that, the Talmud teaches: 'Don't forget -- whenever you take an oath, vow, and pledge -- remember the Kol Nidre prayer that you recited on the Day of Atonement, and that exempts you from fulfilling that.'" The Talmud says no such thing and I challenge any person to prove otherwise. (22) "There was no English word because Judea had passed out of existence. There was no Judea. People had long ago forgotten that. So in the first translation he used the word, in referring to Jesus, as 'gyu', 'jew'. At the time, there was no printing press." Freedman's linguistic analysis of the word "Jew" is so terrible it would make a real linguist laugh in hysterics. Suffice it to say that, yes, there was no letter J in the Roman alphabet, but they did not pronounce their word for Jew (Iudean) with the /j/ phoneme at the beginning. (23) "Just like 'anti-Semitic'. The Arab is a Semite. And the Christians talk about people who don't like Jews as anti-Semites, and they call all the Arabs anti-Semites. The only Semites in the world are the Arabs. There isn't one Jew who's a Semite. They're all Turkothean Mongoloids. The Eastern european Jews." Well, Jews are Semites, but that's beside the point. The word coined by Wilhelm Marr nearly a century before Freedman's speech was Antisemitismus and it was coined to apply to Jews only -- not to Arabs. (24) "They've never been persecuted for their religion. And I wish I had two rows of Rabbis here to challenge me. Never once, in all of history, have they been persecuted for their religion." Jews were consistently persecuted only on religious grounds until the 19th century. Before then, the charge was "Christ-killer." That is a religious basis. (25) "But Benjamin Franklin observed, and by hearsay understood, what was happening in Europe." Freedman is referring to a hoax of an anti-Semitic quote attributed to Ben Franklin that was actually created by William Dudley Pelley in 1933

The Khazar elite converted to Judaism. They probably converted to Orthodoxy along with the Rus in the 10th century as the article states

No, they didn’t, but the conversion BS has been kept around by people who just plain don’t like the Jews.
