The town of Woodside in San Mateo County has found a way to thwart new housing development: invoking the supposed endangerment of mountain lions. Woodside, which according to the U.S. Census Bureau has a median household income of more than $250,000, has blocked any new development under Senate Bill 9 under a clause in the bill prohibiting development in the habitat of an endangered species. SB 9 was an attempt to encourage more housing development in established neighborhoods by allowing property owners to split large lots and bypass public hearings. A group of self-governing, co-living tenants residing in a 17,000-square-foot grand mansion on the San Francisco Peninsula are looking for some new roommates. A tenant at the unique living situation in Woodside, Calif., is seeking three new renters to join their sprawling palatial home, and started the search on Facebook Wednesday. "We all enjoy developing quality relationships and maintaining a sense of community. We’re all open minded, educated, conscientious, and responsible professionals who work hard and like to enjoy ourselves on our time off. We are a diverse group of technologists, financiers, entrepreneurs, doctors, engineers, nurses, musicians, etc.," the post...

The California Highway Patrol is trying to find the person who dumped hundreds of nails and tacks on a road near Woodside that’s popular among cyclists. Officers said Monday that there were so many nails left on Kings Mountain Road that clean-up crews were forced to sweep the lanes to get them out of the way. Cyclists are usually drawn to the road for its views and 1,500-foot climb to Skyline Boulevard. "This is one of my favorite hill climbs," Michael Shorts said. But riders, who are now being warned to pay close attention to the sidewalks, are afraid they...

One thing that makes the energy sector so intriguing is the constant overlap between markets and politics. In many ways, energy security is synonymous with national security, and the supply and demand needs of the oil market can make the most unlikely bedfellows. One country that has been at the center of energy and politics for decades has been Israel. For years the country has been dependent upon foreign energy sources, but a major discovery by Noble Energy (NYSE: NBL ) and its partners has turned this situation on its head. Let's look how this massive natural gas find could...

Please help us protest the ILGO all inclusive St. Pat's Day parade in Woodside, Queens on March 5, 2006 at 12:30 p.m. the no. 7 train to 46th Street in Queens. We will probably meet at 45th and Skillman Avenue. this "all inclusive" parade is an exercise in Christian bashing and bashing Pres. Bush. Signs at prior parades have read Free Mumia, Free Palestine, U.S. out of Iraq. Craven politicians who don't attend the Fifth Avenue parade show up at this one. This is nothing "inclusive" about this parade.

NEW YORK (August 4, 2005) -- The Queens Community Veterans Affairs Clinic was renamed after a Medal of Honor recipient of the Vietnam War, Lance Cpl. Thomas P. Noonan, recently. The legislation of approval for the renaming of the clinic to the Medal of Honor recipient came after a group of former and active duty Marines from Noonan’s hometown of Queens sent a request to the Veterans Administration. According to former Marine Cpl. Jack O’Connor, the group of Marines, totaling near 150, meet annually on the Marine Corps’ birthday to celebrate the Marine Corps traditions. These Marines, who mostly hail...

The End is GreerA pilgrim showed up on the last day at the last hours and contributed that single statement. The End is Greer indeed. The dust already settles and time will soon obscure our memories of the most dramatic event I would ever have imagined, the collision of good and evil in sunny Pinellas Park. Separation of Church and State is oxymoron here as we bore witness to the State sponsored murder of an innocent, an event to lock the State and our religion in a death grip. (Focus on this post is the political and our own roles...

Terri still lives and fights to live ..her spirit is awesome, and so is the unwavering love, devotion and faith of her wonderful family. Though weary and anguished, they fight on. As requested by the Schindlers, Jesse Jackson was once again at the hospice, providing comfort to them. U.S. Court Again Rejects Schiavo Appeal PINELLAS PARK, Fla. - A federal appeals court raised a flicker of hope for the parents of Terri Schiavo, but snuffed it out Wednesday by firmly and resoundingly declining to intervene in the grueling legal battle....

Judge George Greer ruled that the State of Florida has no right to take custody of Terri Schiavo, which ruling came hours after an appeal by Terri's parents to re-insert the feeding tube was refused by the U.S. Supreme Court. Meanwhile, another hearing was scheduled tonight before US District Judge James D. Whittemore .. the same judge who previously heard and denied the request subsequent to the 'de novo' intention of the law past last weekend by the Congress and signed by President Bush, in an effort to confirm that no stone was left unturned before Terri would endure legally...
