The government of Russia confirmed late Friday that it had opened an investigation into and filed charges against the leader of the Wagner paramilitary group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, for calling “armed rebellion” against Moscow. Prior to the announcement by the Federal Security Service, Prigozhin published several video messages on Friday claiming that Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu ordered an attack on Wagner positions in Ukraine and killed “a large number of our fighters.” He later reportedly claimed he entered Rostov-on-Don, Russia, allegedly with little resistance. The city is home to important military installments and the Wagner chief reportedly claimed Shoigu was...

Russia's Wagner militia forces are headed towards Moscow on Saturday after chief Yevgney Prigozhin initiated a military coup against Putin and his regime, which has seen the group take key cities and mock the President, who called them 'traitors'. Putin addressed the Russian people on Saturday, warning that the military leader had 'stabbed him in the back', as Moscow is on lockdown as troops dig in in preparation to defend the city.

Russian President Vladimir Putin pledged Saturday to defend the country and its people from an armed rebellion declared by Wagner Group chief Yevgeny Prigozhin, describing the call to action as a treasonous decision that puts the country’s survival in peril. In a televised address Saturday morning, Putin said the mutiny amounted to "a deadly threat to our statehood," vowing there will be "tough actions" in response. "All those who prepared the rebellion will suffer inevitable punishment," Putin stated. "The armed forces and other government agencies have received the necessary orders." While he did not call Prigozhin out by name, he...

The owner of the Wagner private military contractor made his most direct challenge to the Kremlin yet on Friday, calling for an armed rebellion aimed at ousting Russia’s defense minister. The security services reacted immediately by calling for the arrest of Yevgeny Prigozhin. In a sign of how seriously the Kremlin was taking the threat, security was heightened in Moscow and in Rostov-on-Don, which is home to the Russian military headquarters for the southern region and also oversees the fighting in Ukraine. While the outcome of the confrontation was still unclear, it appeared likely to further hinder Moscow's war effort as Kyiv's...

The Wagner Group's leader has reportedly "declared war" on Vladimir Putin's war after claiming their camp was hit by a Russian missile. Yevgeny Prigozhin, the founder of the Wagner mercenary outfit, claimed the Russian Armed Forces launched a missile attack on the Wagner PMC camps. He added: "A huge number of our comrades died, we will decide how to respond to this atrocity." It comes after a bombshell video was released where Prigozhin said Russia did not face an imminent security threat to justify its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. "The Armed Forces of Ukraine were not going to attack Russia...

Every time I think Yevgeny Prigozhin has probably reached the end of his leash, he just goes ahead and says something even more surprising. I really thought he’d reached the limit when he refused to allow his mercenaries to sign an agreement with the army even though Putin (seemingly) ordered him to do it. As far as I know, that hasn’t been resolved yet. Wagner forces still haven’t signed an agreement. But this latest public statement goes way beyond that. Now he is undermining Russia’s entire justification for the war in Ukraine, claiming the whole thing was a lie concocted...

Russian mercenary chief Yevgeny Prigozhin on Friday accused the Russian military of destroying his fighters, without explaining his accusation, and vowed to stop the “evil” of the military leadership. The Defense Ministry quickly issued a statement saying Prigozhin’s accusations “do not correspond to reality and are an informational provocation.” The chief accused Moscow’s military leadership of ordering strikes on their camps and killing a “huge” number of forces. “We were ready to make concessions to the defense ministry, surrender our weapons,” Yevgeny Prigozhin said in a furious audio message released by his spokespeople. “Today, seeing that we have not been...

The Russian warlord Yevgeny Prigozhin has said Russia’s defence ministry concocted false pretences to trick Vladimir Putin into invading Ukraine and said Moscow could have avoided the war entirely. In a half-hour tirade Prigozhin, founder of the notorious Wagner mercenary group, claimed Russia had faced no immediate threat from Ukraine when Putin began his full-scale invasion last year and accused the army’s top brass of deceiving the Russian president for their own personal gain. The extraordinary rant, posted on social media on Friday, was the former caterer’s latest salvo in a long-running spat with defence minister Sergei Shoigu, who Prigozhin...

Evegeniy Prigozhin, head of the notorious Wagner mercenary group, appeared to fling down a direct political and, possibly, military challenge to the Kremlin on Friday, June 23. In another video he declared that Russia’s grounds for invading Ukraine were false and accused the country’s senior leaders of systematically lying to President Vladimir Putin about the debacle. In another profanity-laced 30-minute video posted on his personal Telegram channel, Prigozhin effectively declared that Russia’s full-scale invasion and its ongoing war with Ukraine were illegal. Among other statements, which directly contradicted official Russian positions regarding the Ukraine war, Prigozhin flatly denied the Kremlin’s longstanding...

Yevgeny Prigozhin's paramilitary outfit the Wagner Group leaked the location of Adam Delimkhanov, a lawmaker and ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who was reportedly wounded in Ukraine, according to a Russian Army lieutenant colonel. Lieutenant Colonel Roman Venevitin, who was recently captured and held briefly by members of Wagner Group before being released to "Russian law enforcement," made the claim in a post on the Venevitin_72 Telegram channel. The "Prigozhinites" handed over to Kyiv the coordinates of Delimkhanov—the right-hand man to Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, he said. The accusations come as tensions between the Wagner boss and Russia's military...

Russia's most powerful mercenary said on Sunday that his Wagner fighters would not sign any contract with Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu, publicly refusing an attempt by the defence ministry to bring his fighting force under its sway. -snip- The defence ministry on Saturday said Shoigu had ordered all "volunteer detachments" to sign contracts with his ministry by the end of the month, a step it said would increase the effectiveness of the Russian army. Though the ministry did not mention Wagner in its public statement, the Russian media reported that it was an attempt by Shoigu to bring the mercenaries...
