The 40-year-old Army veteran who killed six people and wounded three others at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin reportedly grew up as a “precious child” in a typical American family, according to his stepmother. Laura Page, who was married to Wade Michael Page’s father for roughly two decades, told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that her stepson was “kind and gentle and loving” during his childhood. [...] Page, who was shot to death by police, described himself as a member of the "Hammerskins Nation," a skinhead group rooted in Texas that has branches in Australia and Canada, according to the SITE...
  • Why do we keep assuming the Sikh shooter thought he was killing Muslims?(vanity chat)

This appears to be the assumption of Sikhs in America, the news media and even the internet media. The shooter was military trained in psychological warfare, I believe is a fact? Why do we think that he would confuse Sikhs with Muslims? I certainly do not. I can tell the difference between a Sikh and a Muslim from a hundred yards in an Atlanta shopping mall. Sikhs have an elegant and kindly air about them, their beards are trimmed with a romantic style and their turbans draped artistically and distinctively. Their woman do not cringe and crouch and do not...

Wisconsin shooter Wade Michael Page used a Springfield 9mm semiautomatic handgun to carry out the attack at a Sikh temple in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, officials said. As in several other recent mass shootings, the gun had been purchased legally, at a Milwaukee-area gun store called the Shooter Shop."There is no valid reason for civilians to have assault rifles, semiautomatic handguns and high-capacity magazines," he said. "We have to start ratcheting down the firepower in civilian hands in the United States."

WASHINGTON -- Federal investigators had “looked at” Sikh temple gunman Wade Michael Page more than once because of his associations with right-wing extremists and the possibility that he was providing funding to a domestic terrorist group, but law enforcement officials at the time determined there was not enough evidence of a crime to open an investigation, a senior U.S. law enforcement official said. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media, would not say Monday which law enforcement agency had considered investigating Page, or when.

CNN associated a white supremacist neo-Nazi band with the political right-wing as it labeled the punk rock band of Wisconsin shooter Wade Michael Page as "far right." CNN had reported Page's band named "End Apathy" as "white supremacist," "neo-Nazi," and as a "hate group." Yet it also repeatedly labeled it "far right" on Sunday and Monday. [Video below the break. Amardeep Kaleka was not surprised his father tried to stop a gunman at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin. "It's an amazing act of heroism, but it's also exactly who he was," Amardeep said of Satwant Singh Kaleka, 65, one of six community members killed Sunday. "There was no way in God's green Earth that he would allow somebody to come in and do that without trying his best to stop it." Sources told ABC News the suspect was a “white supremacist” or “skinhead.” And officials told NBC News he had “some kind of radical or white supremacist views,” but was apparently not a member of any kind of radical organization. His past run-ins with law enforcement were described as minor. According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, Page “was a frustrated neo-Nazi who had been the leader of a racist white-power band.” The band, called End Apathy, formed in 2005. According to the group’s MySpace page, its music “is a sad commentary on our sick society and the problems that prevent...

The hero Brooklyn-born cop who took up to nine bullets trying to stop an alleged racist madman shooting up a Sikh temple in suburban Milwaukee was more worried about other victims than himself. "He told them to go into the temple,” Oak Creek, Wis., Police Chief John Edwards said today about Police Lt. Brian Murphy, 51, whose brother, Terry, is a retired NYPD detective. Brian Murphy had waved off help from fellow officers Sunday during the carnage at the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin. < snip > Murphy -- who Bauer said has kept his New York accent and attitude despite...

The White House also reiterated the great contribution made by the Sikhs community in the American life.
