LITTLE ROCK, AR -- Tonight a (WHITE) University of Arkansas Little Rock employee talked to FOX 16 about being attacked near campus. The employee tells us the attack came out of nowhere after he parked his car on 32nd and University. Hispanics head for higher ed (Especially in Northwest Arkansas.) Gema Vargas, 20, will be a senior at UALR in the 2006-07 school year. She came to this country as a child. Her father, who had fled a war in Nicaragua, got a job in Arkansas, then brought his family up. Because they were considered war refugees, the Vargas family got the necessary papers to stay here comparatively easily, Vargas said. Pedestrian killed on University Avenue ARKANSAS DEMOCRAT-GAZETTE A woman was killed Thursday night when a pickup hit her while she was trying to cross University Avenue near the University of Arkansas at Little Rock campus, Little Rock police said. Witnesses said the woman was walking west on 32nd Street about 8:30 p.m. when the southbound pickup struck her. The driver then lost control of his vehicle, crossed the median and hit an iron fence on the east side of the road. The woman was pronounced dead on the scene.
