  • Who won the ratings race: Fox News or Donald Trump?

Donald Trump counter-programmed Thursday's GOP primary debate on Fox with his own prime time event. So whose show scored a bigger audience? Answer: Fox's debate. But it was the second lowest rated debate of the season. So Trump is certain to take credit for hurting the channel's total viewership. Fox News Channel's Trump-less debate had an 8.4 household rating, according to early Nielsen data from so-called metered markets. This means 8.4% of American metered market homes with TV sets were watching the face-off. By comparison, two of the cable channels that showed parts of Trump's event, CNN and MSNBC, had...

Trump announced he was donating $1 million on top of $5 million in similar and somewhat smaller sized donations from friends and supporters of Trump, including online donations that brought the total to over $6 million. A website set up by Trump Thursday morning, DonaldTrumpforVets.com to accept online donations stated $570,000 had been raised via the website as of Thursday night. The donations were being collected by the Donald J. Trump Foundation for disbursement to the veterans groups. Four of the groups are based in Iowa: The Mulberry Street Veterans Shelter, Projects for Patriots, Puppy Jake and Support Siouxland Soldiers....

A CNN source said the network would likely air parts of the Trump event live and other networks are expected to give it live coverage as well. Trump announced on Twitter a dedicated website, DonaldTrumpForVets.com, for his supporters to donate funds for military veterans. “It is my great honor to support our Veterans with you!” Trump tweeted. The website, however, did not specify any particular charity to which the funds would go.

Rather than going directly to veterans groups, 100% of online donations on Trump's pro-veterans site will go directly to Trump's personal foundation. After ducking the final Republican presidential debate heading into next week's Iowa caucuses, GOP front-runner Donald Trump announced that he would hold his own pro-veterans event during the debate to raise money for veterans. Trump even set up a special website to solicit donations to help veterans. "Honor their valor," the website, donaldtrumpforvets.com, states. "Donate now to help our Veterans." The website, which is nothing more than a single page with stock photos and a credit card donation...

  • LIVE THREAD Donald Trump VETERANS Rally in Des Moines, Iowa Airing Jan 28 9:00pm EST on C-SPAN

I’m not really sure what will happen tonight. I truly hope that Donald Trump will keep his word and follow through on his decision to not attend the debate and hold a separate forum in Des Moines, but who knows. For now, C-Span says they will cover it. Sometimes it’s best to walk away from a bad deal and not look back. It’s another opportunity for Trump to “teach us.” I guess we’ll see. Hopefully we won’t get whipsawed all day long and that the Des Moines rally is on and FR people here will participate. It seems pretty clear...

But Donald Trump upended Fox's plans by choosing to skip the latest Republican debate in favor of his own fundraiser for veterans in Des Moines, Iowa, creating unexpected competition for the cable news channel. "All networks will be present and have the opportunity to carry live," Trump spokeswoman Hope Hicks told CNNMoney. -snip- CBSN, the network's 24/7 streaming news network, will cover Trump's wounded warrior fundraiser, according to a CBS spokesman. -snip- At least one cable news channel is going wall-to-wall with Trump starting at 9 p.m. One America News, a conservative news channel that launched in 2013, plans to...

No one ever really doubted that Donald Trump could pull off a major counter-programing feat -- even when competing with a GOP debate that was expected to draw millions of viewers. He did it Thursday night, dazzling a crowd of hundreds of enthusiastic supporters by announcing that he had raised more than $6 million for veterans in one day -- $1 million of it from his own checkbook. "We love our vets," he said. "You know, my whole theme is make America great again and that's what we're going to do --- and we wouldn't have even been here if...
