Trump’s DOJ says Whitaker can serve in acting role without Senate confirmation. Matthew Whitaker can properly serve as acting attorney general without Senate confirmation, the Justice Department said in a legal opinion released Wednesday, though the document is unlikely to end the debate over Mr. Whitaker’s installation as the country’s top law-enforcement officer.

(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton made the following statement in response to the resignation of Attorney General Jeff Sessions, bringing an end to his controversial tenure as the nation’s top law enforcement officer: I hope transparency and rooting out corruption and abuse becomes the focus of any new Attorney General. President Trump has been terribly victimized by Justice Department and FBI corruption. The Justice Department was a black hole in terms of transparency. It covered up institutional misconduct and, unbelievably, went out of its way to defend misconduct by Hillary Clinton and other Obama administration officials. Now...

House Democrats have a Plan B to make sure Robert Mueller’s findings in the Russia investigation see the light of day if President Trump fires the special counsel, a report said. Democrats, who regained control of the House in Tuesday’s midterm elections, are preparing for a Saturday Night Massacre situation in which Trump fires top Justice Department officials in an attempt to quash Mueller’s investigation. In that scenario, Democratic officials told Politico, Mueller would be immediately summoned to Capitol Hill, where he would testify about his findings on national television.

President Donald Trump is considering former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi to replace fired Attorney General Jeff Sessions, sources familiar with the matter said. Trump fired Sessions on Wednesday without immediately naming a replacement, instead installing Sessions' chief of staff Matthew Whitaker as acting attorney general. Christie, a former US attorney, could face similar calls to the ones Sessions faced to recuse himself from special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation given his role as a prominent 2016 campaign surrogate for Trump. Christie was initially considered as a contender for the attorney general position during the...

Full title........Trump’s acting attorney general, Matt Whitaker, has no intention of recusing from Russia probe,, associates say...........................Acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker has no intention of recusing himself from overseeing the special counsel probe of Russian interference in the 2016 election, according to people close to him who added they do not believe he would approve any subpoena of President Trump as part of that investigation. Since stepping into his new role on Wednesday, Whitaker has faced questions — principally from Democrats — about whether he should recuse from the Russia investigation, given that he has written opinion pieces in the...

(CNN)Last month, when President Donald Trump was asked by The New York Times if special counsel Robert Mueller would be crossing a line if he started investigating the finances of Trump and his family, the President said, "I think that's a violation. Look, this is about Russia." The President is absolutely correct. Mueller has come up to a red line in the Russia 2016 election-meddling investigation that he is dangerously close to crossing. According to a CNN article, Mueller's investigators could be looking into financial records relating to the Trump Organization that are unrelated to the 2016 election. According to...

Tuesday night on MSNBC’s midterm election coverage, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) said now that Democrats control the House of Representatives, President Donald Trump will not be able to tear down of the independence of the Justice Department. Schiff said, “The chances that Bob Mueller will be able to finish his work improved for the reason that our committee and others, like the government reform committee and the judiciary committee, which under Republican leadership served as basically surrogates for the president in their efforts to batter down the Justice Department, to give the president a pretext to fire people at the...

The Justice Department on Tuesday unsealed charges against a group of Chinese intelligence officers, alleging that they hacked into a series of private companies’ computer systems in the U.S. and abroad as part of an effort to steal sensitive commercial aviation data. Zha Rong, Chai Meng and seven other co-conspirators worked to steal intellectual property and other sensitive data from over a dozen companies so that China could develop a turbofan engine "without incurring substantial research and development expenses," according to the to the indictment. After its fall, the former Soviet Union’s archives became available to historians, allowing a look at what really happened during the Cold War’s nuclear brinksmanship. We knew that American reconnaissance flights in the 1950s over the Soviet Union had failed to reveal actionable intelligence of the Soviet missile program. In the absence of real information, intelligence agencies guessed and the politicians exaggerated. American journalist Joseph Alsop terrified Americans with a series of articles recounting a staggering “missile gap” between the Soviets and Americans, which he placed at a Soviet advantage of 150 intercontinental ballistic missiles with a trend toward 1,500...

It’s no secret that Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ days as Attorney General are numbered. The main questions are: (1) How will his exit be handled and (2) Who will replace him. I have no insight as to the second question. One hears names like Matthew Whitaker (a former U.S. Attorney — and University of Iowa football player — who currently is Sessions’ chief of staff); Alex Azar, the Secretary of HHS (and not to confused with Alex Acosta); and Rep. John Ratcliffe (another former U.S. Attorney). However, I have no idea whether or to what degree these three (and others)...
