  • Biden’s Zoom Call with Hispanic Lawmakers Goes Sideways, Host Abruptly Ends Call After Democrat Tells Biden to Drop Out of Race

    07/12/2024 1:32:30 PM PDT · by janetjanet998 · 26 replies
Joe Biden on Friday participated in a Zoom call (he was an hour late) with members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and things went sideways when a lawmaker told Biden to drop out of the race. According to NOTUS, the Zoom call was tightly controlled and only two lawmakers were allowed to ask Biden questions. Biden tried to open the discussion and said more lawmakers can ask questions. Rep. Mike Levin told Biden to drop out of the 2024 race and the host, Rep. Linda Sanchez, abruptly ended the Zoom call.
  • Tech-averse Supreme Court broadcasts teleconference arguments

The Supreme Court on Monday broke with tradition and held oral arguments by conference call, a first for the famously tech-averse tribunal as the justices adapt to the global pandemic. A live audio feed of the argument — a trademark dispute concerning the travel service Booking.com — gave the general public unprecedented access to the hearing in real time. As arguments opened, the justices allowed counsel two minutes of speaking time before posing questions, which began with Chief Justice John Roberts and proceeded to the other justices in order of seniority. In another rarity, conservative Justice Clarence Thomas, who typically...

The Supreme Court said Monday it will hold arguments by teleconference in May in key cases, including President Donald Trump’s bid to shield his tax and other financial records. The court will make live audio of the arguments available for the first time. It had previously postponed courtroom arguments for March and April because of the coronavirus. The court will hear 10 cases in all between May 4 and May 13. In addition to fights over subpoenas for Trump’s financial records, they include two cases about whether presidential electors are required to cast their Electoral College ballots for the candidate...

GOP lawmakers say they have heard new stories about political bias or interference within the FBI on the eve of new testimony Thursday by FBI Director Christopher Wray. Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) said Wednesday he interviewed a recently retired FBI supervisor who told him he was instructed by Deputy Director Andrew McCabe not to call the 2012 Benghazi attack an act of terrorism when distributing a report on the FBI findings to the larger intelligence community. The agent found the instruction concerning because his unit had gathered incontrovertible evidence showing a major al Qaeda figure had directed the attack and...
