So it turns out that NVIDIA roadmap we saw last month was as true and pure as driven snow. The barely conceivable quad-core Tegra chip that it listed has now been made official by none other than NVIDIA itself, with the company also informing us that the new silicon is already sampling out to prospective clients. Known as Kal-El internally, this will most likely turn into NVIDIA's Tegra 3 as and when it's ready to enter the consumer market. Tonight NVIDIA whetted our appetite for what's to come with a demo that can most fittingly be described as an exhibition...

How aggressive can NVIDIA get? That's the question puzzling our brainboxes right now as we gaze upon the complete version of the slide that let us know about a potential Tegra 2 3D chip over the weekend. It's not every day you hear of a 1.5GHz quad-core mobile SOC,

updated 10:15 am EST, Mon January 24, 2011 NVIDIA Tegra 3 leaks with late 2011 ship date NVIDIA may be first to have a shipping quad-core processor in a tablet. A new copy of the same slide that showed the Tegra 2 3D has listed the Tegra 3. The design would closely follow Qualcomm's own ambitions and see a 1.5GHz, quad-core design that would be more than twice as fast as any Tegra 2. BSON heard that triple the graphics power would be onboard to decode Blu-ray video and to power a 1920x1200 main display. To keep the power draw reasonable,...

Big GHz fight in 2011 Qualcomm has decided to show its dual Scorpion based MSM8x60 mobile CPU and it also told the world that this CPU can hit 1.2GHz, per core that is. The chip has an Adreno 220 GPU that we know little about and of course its a 45nm chip since 28nm should be only ready in the latter part of 2011. The chip should be able to do high definition stereoscopic 3D video, and multi-party video conferencing as well as some nice gaming. It is intended for tablets and phones and you can bet that you will...

Heating up clock wars Whether you like it or not, the ARM revolution is happening today and these small chips are starting to matter to the world just as much as Intel and AMD chips do. They will get to many tablets and mobile phones in 2011 and onward and most of the 2011 models are dual-core. We just mentioned the 1.5GHz OMAP 4440 chip yesterday and we got confirmation from a source close to Texas Instruments that this fancy fast chip can ship in the second half of 2011. Texas (non-chainsaw) chaps do believe that that have a good...

The slate computing market is about to explode, with a literal flood of new tablets releasing over the coming months. Many of them will be Android based, running Nvidia’s Tegra 2 SoC. Nvidia made a big deal about Tegra 2 back at CES 2010, but for some reason, it’s taken quite a bit of time for anything running the platform to hit the market. Finally, we have one - the Viewsonic G Tablet. The Tegra 2-based Viewsonic G Tablet showing the Tap UI homescreen The specs are pretty straightforward; we’ve got a 10” WSVGA display with LED backlighting, Android 2.2...

LG Electronics will reportedly use an Nvidia dual-core mobile Tegra applications processor in a number of smartphones this year, marking the first real step for Nvidia in the handset market, according to the Wall Street Journal. The chip company has previously shown impressive demos of the Tegra 2 processor, but few handset makers have officially announced the use of Nvidia chips, instead opting for those by Qualcomm, Texas Instruments and Samsung.

OS to blame Back in may Nvidia showed its investors a slide that featured 50 design win for Tegra 2. Compare that to just two design wins for Tegra, one of which was the ill-fated Kin smartphone. Not a single Tegra 2 tablet or any sort of device has shipped, and the blame is on the operating system. We’ve seen some tablets showcased at CES and later at Cebit but these, mostly Taiwanese companies have postponed all of them. The word is that they got delayed as they dropped Windows 7 tablet edition in favour of Google’s Android. Today...

BERKELEY, Calif. (MarketWatch) -- A new round of pad computers with various features all missing from Apple Inc.'s iPad is coming. Curiously, the most interesting one appears to be coming out of India using the hottest new Nvidia Corp. chip to power it.Already previewed at various international trade shows, a look at the specifications tells me that unless the thing simply does not work as advertised this could be the hottest and most usable pad computer on the market. From a company called Notion Ink, it's called the Adam. Compared to an iPad it has a bigger screen, twice the battery...
