Members of a regional women’s country line dance team were reportedly kicked out of a Seattle dance convention after organizers claimed their American flag-themed shirts made some attendees feel "triggered and unsafe." Over the weekend at the Emerald City Hoedown in Seattle, the Borderline Dance team was set to perform, but were essentially told they weren't welcome by organizer Rain Country Dance Association, an LGBTQ+ dance community, over their matching American flag themed shirts, Jason Rantz reported for 770 KTTH.

DENVER, CO — A local 6th grader has been suspended and sent home from school after he was found to be in possession of a history textbook with an offensive image of an American flag on the cover. "This imagery is unacceptable," said Marsha Jackson-Rodriguez-Ketanja, the school's principal. "How any young person could possibly believe that a school is the proper place to bring this textbook is unconscionable. History class is intended to be a safe space where students can be protected from all images that have origins in slavery — like this offensive, awful flag." The boy, Tristan Lupascu,...

Donald Trump said Friday that he won't allow the Pentagon to cut funding for the military's independent newspaper, Stars and Stripes, effectively halting Defense leaders' plan to shut the paper down this month. 'The United States of America will NOT be cutting funding to @starsandstripes magazine under my watch,' Trump tweeted. 'It will continue to be a wonderful source of information to our Great Military!' Trump's tweet came as he fought off new accusations that he called service members killed in World War I 'losers' and 'suckers' during an event in France in 2018.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Pentagon has ordered the military’s independent newspaper, Stars and Stripes, to cease publication at the end of the month, despite congressional efforts to continue funding the century-old publication. The order to halt publication by Sept. 30, and dissolve the organization by the end of January, follows the Pentagon’s move earlier this year to cut the $15.5 million in funding for the paper from the Defense Department budget. And it is a reflection of the Trump administration’s broader animosity for the media and members of the press.

One of the F-22 Raptor fighter jets that went on the fleet’s first ever combat mission in Syria carried an American flag into battle, according to a mid-air photograph snapped of the plane just after the mission. The photo was taken from an Air Force refueling plane as the next generation F-22 filled its tanks after its mission to strike a single Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) target in Syria – a mission the Air Force said was a “success.” A folded American flag can be seen in the cockpit, in front of the pilot, as reported by...

(LRO slewed 19° down-Sun allowing the illuminated side of the still standing American flag to be captured at the Apollo 17 site.) An enduring question ever since the manned moon landings of the 1960s has been: Are the flags planted by the astronauts still standing? Now, lunar scientists say the verdict is in from the latest photos of the moon taken by NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera (LROC): Most do, in fact, still stand. "From the LROC images it is now certain that the American flags are still standing and casting shadows at all of the sites, except Apollo 11,"...

Until 1912, there was no set design for the Stars and Stripes. And so, hidden in older versions of the flag, its makers laid hints of the country's history and quest for identity.Aptly - given its national anthem is about the flag - the Stars and Stripes is a key part of America's identity. It hangs in classrooms and in courtrooms, on state buildings and suburban porches. It has been the national flag since 1777. And the flag that inspired the anthem was enormous. Measuring 30 by 42 feet (9 x 12.8m), it was raised over Baltimore's Fort McHenry during...

WASHINGTON -- President Bush on Monday signed a bill that would bar condominium and homeowner associations from restricting how the American flag can be displayed. Sponsored by Rep. Roscoe Bartlett, R-Md., the resolution would prohibit those groups from preventing residents from displaying an American flag on their own property. It was passed unanimously by both the House and the Senate.

WASHINGTON -- I burned an American flag once. I could lie and say I was exercising my First Amendment rights, that I was protesting the first flag-burning statute Congress approved in 1989, but that would attribute more noble motives to my immolation of Old Glory than I actually had. Really, I just wanted to know how it felt to burn it. It felt really, really weird. Southerners have a flag fetish. We've been wrapped up in them for some time. Fine motives are generally attributed to the flags in our fights over them. As the Senate debated the flag-burning amendment...

FORT HUACHUCA — Soldiers are guardians of two special flags — the American and the Army banners. More than two centuries ago today, the Continental Congress adopted two resolutions on June 14, one in 1775 and the other two years later. The first established an Army. The second gave them a flag to fight under. For Spc. Richard Edminson, a member of the fort’s honor guard, the Army flag represents the need for a service to ensure democracy is protected. “It represents our freedom,” the soldier said. From the top of the flag, campaign streamers honoring battles from the Revolutionary...

'Furl that flag,' for 'tis leery By Wesley Pruden THE WASHINGTON TIMES Published April 7, 2006 The ancient Chinese sage who advised generals yearning to enhance their splendor to "put out more flags" ought to be recognized as the patron saint of every rebel with a cause. Sometimes the rest of us can't hear the music for the sound of marching feet, but we can see the flags. The backlash against Mexican flags in the street theater about illegal immigration has set off a run on the Stars and Stripes. Every demonstrator needs one, whether he really wants it or...
