Phoenix police were called out to a fight Wednesday morning, and ended up finding a lot of weapons and drugs. Officers said they arrived at a home near 4100 North 27th Street and found 100 pounds of pot and blood stains but no people. That home led detectives to two other West Valley homes where they found another 700 pounds of marijuana, 49 AK-47s and 6 bins full of ammunition. Officers arrested four men on drug and weapons charges. Both areas have Mexican enclaves. A desert area in West Phoenix has long been a body dumping ground for drug gang...

The Border: The Sunshine State's attorney general not only supports Arizona in court but has proposed a law tweaking the objections and going even further. Punishing criminals and protecting citizens sounds good to us. Florida attorney general and gubernatorial candidate Bill McCollum isn't waiting for the final word on Arizona's court-challenged SB1070. He's sponsoring a Florida version that deals with the legal objections while ending the concept of sanctuary cities and providing for enhanced penalties when illegal aliens commit crimes. McCollum will no doubt be accused of political motives and opportunism. He will be accused of being racist. But if...

PALOMINAS — A number of visitors traveled hundreds, if not thousands, of miles across the country in order to attend the Border Tea Party Rally on a private ranch along the U.S.-Mexico border on Sunday. Some came to listen, some came to speak, and others came to listen so they could speak when they get home. “It is about time people got interested in the inner workings of our government. … and their accountability,” Said Bruce Bocker of Charlotte, N.C. Although he was in town for a week-long temporary job as a contractor on the fort, Bocker said he had...

HEREFORD, Ariz. (AP) - Tea party activists are gathering along a remote stretch of the Arizona-Mexico border about 70 miles west of Nogales. They're rallying Sunday on a private ranch in support of Arizona's controversial immigration law. A judge has put much of the law on hold. The rally is being held near a stretch of the wall made of 15-foot steel posts set closely together to prevent people from crossing the border. People have attached flags with messages about curbing illegal immigration to the posts.

(CNN) - At a Tea Party rally Sunday on the U.S.-Mexico border in support of tough immigration laws, Arizona Senate candidate J.D. Hayworth slammed his opponent, Arizona Sen. John McCain, and turned McCain's words back on the veteran senator. On a ranch in Hereford, Arizona, and with the border fence visible several hundred yards behind him, Hayworth also praised Arizona's new immigration law that was signed by the state's governor, who has spent the last two days campaigning with McCain. Pulling a word from a McCain letter on immigration which first surfaced in April, Hayworth said it was time to...

SIERRA VISTA — A Border Tea Party Rally will be held close to the fence separating the U.S. from Mexico. The Sunday event on private property will be from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with a stage 60 feet from the border. A number of speakers will talk about border security, including Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, whose roundups of illegal immigrants have angered civil rights groups. Russell Pearce, one of the architects of Senate Bill 1070 calling for Arizona law enforcement agencies to question individuals...

"Tea party" groups are planning a large rally on Sunday in Arizona, near the Mexican border, to support both the state's hard-line stance on illegal immigration and the political campaign of the local talk show host who is challenging Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.). Candidate J.D. Hayworth, a former congressman turned conservative radio commentator, is one of dozens of scheduled speakers for the morning rally on a remote ranch about 100 miles south of Tucson. Others include Sharron Angle, the Republican challenging Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.), and Sue Krentz, the wife of a rancher killed near the rally...

HOUSTON – Would an immigration reform law like Arizona’s work in Texas? That was the topic of discussion Thursday when some HPD officers met with police officials from Phoenix. Mark Spencer, president of the police union in Phoenix, where officers are already allowed to call immigration officials, said crime has dropped. "It’s not based upon race. It’s based upon conduct," Spencer said. "The clear connection between those statistics is the crime of illegal immigration. We needed to be proactive [and use] common sense." "We’ve got to secure our borders. We’ve got to do what is necessary to make sure that...

NASHUA - Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio will speak at a Sept. 12 Republican fundraiser on his efforts to give local authorities power to enforce immigration laws. Arpaio is known for pushing the bounds for how local law enforcement agencies can confront illegal immigration. He said last week he plans to house illegal immigrants convicted under Arizona’s new immigration law in tents in the desert. About 1,300 U.S. citizens and illegal immigrants are serving time in Arpaio’s tents for convictions for theft, domestic violence, drunken driving, identity theft, human smuggling and other crimes. The sheriff’s office has housed inmates in canvas...

The Catholic tradition often speaks of the "dignity of the human person," and we hear it so often that it's easy to lose sight of the pressing urgency and implications of this mandate. But the present controversy surrounding SB 1070 in Arizona prompts us to reconsider the immediate relevance of this tenet. As a Catholic, my faith emphatically tells me that honoring human dignity is essential to a just society. This profound belief that God's love and life are for everyone, especially the most vulnerable, compels me to action. Our tradition insists this commitment to the common good must inform our politics on a fundamental level. And it must inform our commitment both to advocating for comprehensive immigration reform and standing against SB 1070.

The scene is the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut . The year 2000. The congressman has $100 chips stacked high, having a grand time at the crap table. He likes to gamble and isn't afraid to show some temper when he loses. Along for the ride are his campaign manager and one of the two biggest lobbyist handing out campaign money from various Indian tribes who was also a 20 year friend of the legislator. By now we've all heard about the money J.D. Hayworth received from an Indian tribe by way of disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff, who was one...

MEDFORD ORE. – Sal Esquivel, supporter of Arizona's immigration bill, is now proposing his own bill to cut down on the number of illegal immigrants in Oregon. “It's about a $7 million problem for taxpayers,” said Sal Esquivel. Esquivel ‘s bill would require businesses to use e-verification, a system that uses an applicant' social security number, passport or green cards to verify that he or she is a legal citizen of the Untied States. Employers who hire illegal workers would be disciplined. Esquivel proposed the bill last legislative session but it got turned down. Democratic Representative Peter Buckley says the...

Timely use of campaign funds to buy advertising could be the key to overcoming incumbent John McCain's 20-point lead in the race for the Republican nomination, rival Senate candidate J.D. Hayworth said Tuesday in Ahwatukee Foothills. "Our ads are going up as his are coming down," Hayworth said following an appearance at an Ahwatukee Republican Women's club meeting at the Grace Inn, just south of Elliot Road on 51st Street. A Rasmussen Reports poll released Monday indicated McCain was leading Hayworth by a margin of 54-34. Hayworth attracted a crowd of about 80 people to the Tuesday evening event. Hayworth...

In an effort to appeal to the senses of any liberal audience reading this article, I am going to disregard the US Constitution at the moment. I am going to focus a bit more of the issue brought up by Pinal County (Ariz.) Sheriff Paul Babeu. “Our own government has become our enemy and is taking us to court at a time when we need help,” As we all know, the federal government filed a lawsuit against Arizona in response to a new law that gave local law enforcement officers more authority to round up people who are in the...

PHOENIX (AP) — Sen. John McCain's Republican primary challenger has released a new ad using McCain's own voice admitting to lying in the past. Former congressman J.D. Hayworth's campaign released the commercial Thursday. It uses McCain's voice from the recording of his 2002 book, in which McCain recalls publicly supporting South Carolina's right to fly the Confederate flag, even though he personally opposed it. McCain says on the recording: " ... it could come down to lying or losing. I chose lying." The ad suggests McCain is again lying about his record on illegal immigration.

Law: A judge will let proceed a Virginia suit to declare ObamaCare unconstitutional while the state's attorney general says police can check immigration status a la the Arizona law. Somewhere Patrick Henry is smiling. ObamaCare is unconstitutional, and Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli knows it. He also knows our unsecure borders and a stealth amnesty program pushed by this administration threaten citizens as far north as Richmond. That's why he's taken action in both areas, leading the states that formed a group in revolt against it. Cuccinelli has issued a legal opinion that says Virginia police are allowed under the...
