Democrats in 2016 demanded Senate Republicans "do their job" and give a hearing and vote to President Barack Obama's Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland, in spite of it being a presidential election year. Obama, then-vice president Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, then-Senate minority leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.) and Senate Democrats ripped Republicans, who were in control of the Senate, for their decision not to consider Garland. Sen. Patrick Leahy (D., Vt.) said the Senate had approved judges as late as "September" in election years, and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) said the notion that Obama could not nominate a judge...

Lindsey Graham, the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said Sunday that an escalated timeline for Supreme Court nominee Judge Amy Coney Barrett will allow for a vote before Halloween — as a number of lawmakers said her confirmation is all but assured. “So we’ll start on Oct. 12, and more than half of the Supreme Court justices who have had hearings were done within 16 days or less,” Graham said on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures.” “We’ll have a day of introduction. We’ll have two days of questioning, Tuesday and Wednesday, and on the 15th we’ll begin to...

The FBI investigated whether Danchenko was illegally working as a Russian agent. Graham said that the...

At a hearing of the U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, Shkreli repeatedly invoked the Fifth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which says no person shall be compelled in any criminal case "to be a witness against himself." Wearing a sport jacket and collared shirt rather than his usual T-shirt, he responded to questions by laughing, twirling a pencil and yawning. Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz, a Utah Republican, asked Shkreli what he would tell a single, pregnant woman with AIDS who needed Daraprim to survive, and whether he thought he had done anything wrong. Shkreli declined to answer....

ROCK HILL, S.C. (WBTV) - A change could be coming to the Rock Hill area. City council will take a vote on the mask mandate that has been in place since July. This vote would make Rock Hill’s mask mandate indefinite until council decides to repeal it. The mandate would have expired on September 7 if council had not voted to extend it until mid-October. Now, council members are trying to keep the mandate without having to vote every 60 days. This is the second reading for this emergency ordinance, so if it passes tonight, it will be enacted. Only...

For some reason, former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley was a speaker at the Republican convention on Monday night. Nobody is fooled by the unified front that Haley’s appearance presents. Haley was not at the RNC to signal her support for the populist agenda that Donald Trump ran on in 2016, and should run on in 2020 as well. She was there to advance her own ambitions, through superficial association with the Trump administration. These ambitions should be checked now. Allowing Nikki Haley to become a leader in the Republican Party would be a return to Bush-era conservatism, defined by...

Sen. Lindsey Graham is taking fire from the Right and the Left, a development that has placed the South Carolina Republican in a political quagmire as a challenge to his reelection bid heats up. Jaime Harrison, Graham’s Democratic opponent, raised more than $20 million during the first six months of the year — enough to mount a credible Senate bid in states far larger than South Carolina. Less than eight weeks before Election Day, Harrison is using that war chest to flood television airwaves and digital platforms with campaign advertising. Graham has never before faced general-election opposition of this magnitude....
