Italian experts have been puzzled by the overnight appearance of a geyser crater spraying clouds of gas 15 feet in the air, yards from the end of the runway at one of Europe's busiest airports. Motorists on Saturday were alarmed to notice hot, stinking gas spurting from a newly formed crater in the middle of a roundabout close to the perimeter fence of Rome's Fiumicino airport -- less than 900 yards from the end of a runway. Spectators gathered around the smoking crater, which measured about six feet wide and three feet deep, before firefighters and vulcanologists arrived to seal...

MONDAY, Aug. 26 (HealthDay News) -- Levels of mercury in Pacific Ocean fish are likely to rise over coming decades, say researchers who report they've discovered how mercury gets into open-ocean fish. They concluded that up to 80 percent of the toxic form of mercury (methylmercury) found in deep-feeding North Pacific fish is produced in the ocean's depths, probably by bacteria that cling to sinking bits of organic matter. Researchers say they also confirmed that mercury found in fish near Hawaii likely traveled through the air for thousands of miles before being deposited in the ocean by rainfall. They noted...

Crossroads Grassroots Policy Strategies (Crossroads GPS) today announced it has entered the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services video contest aimed at promoting Obamacare among young people. The video, which was submitted late Sunday night, is entitled, plainly, “Propaganda.” It can be viewed here. High resolution versions are available upon request. The video goes on to capture many of the less savory aspects of the law that HHS has glossed over in its talking points and official literature – including the penalty for not complying with the individual mandate, and the dramatic increase in premiums for younger people that...

The battle for the Senate is primed to go down to the wire. Democrats can lose up to five seats while retaining the majority—assuming Cory Booker wins October's special election in New Jersey—but the party is threatened by members facing tough races in the Deep South and other conservative states. Already, races for three Democratic-held open seats (Montana, South Dakota, and West Virginia) are favoring Republicans, and Sen. Mark Pryor is looking in tenuous shape in Arkansas. But as strong a cycle as this is looking for Republicans, that's as attributable to the very conservative bent of the "playing field" as...

There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things? I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem? I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.( Luke 13:1-5)The greatest spiritual breakthroughs...

In view of recent developments in Syria, (The use of Chemical weapons), I am reprinting a Dec 2011 column on Syria in ProphecyThe burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap. The cities of Aroer are forsaken: they shall be for flocks, which shall lie down, and none shall make them afraid.(Isaiah 17:1-2)At a breath-taking rate, world events are increasingly lining up with predictions of the prophets of the Bible, signifying that the Day of the Lord draws near. The biblical prophets are specific as to geo-political alignments and...

Think it’s odd that a 30-year-old male Hong Kong national punched a 78-year-old female abortion protestor in the back, then calmly walked down the street without uttering a word? Just wait until you watch the video of what happened after the assault in Iowa City. But first, let’s review what we know so far. Man Chun John Ma stands 6-feet 1-inches and weighs 200 pounds, hails from Hong Kong, and is a graduate student in the genetics program at the University of Iowa. According to Donna Holman, she was holding an anti-abortion sign near a Planned Parenthood office on Wednesday...

Peering through the windswept snow on a dark February day, the rescue party finally came on the first sign of life — the flapping remains of a tent pitched on ski poles on an uppermost slope of Kholat Syakhl, ‘Mountain of the Dead’ in the native language of northern Siberia. But where were the nine young Russian students who should have been sheltering beneath the canvas? Curiosity turned to mystery as human tracks were seen in the snow heading downhill away from the tent in single file for a third of a mile... barefoot human tracks. In temperatures of minus...

Julie Harris, the unprepossessing anti-diva who, in the guises of Joan of Arc, Mary Todd Lincoln, Emily Dickinson and many other characters both fictional and real, became the most decorated performer in the history of Broadway, died on Saturday at her home in Chatham, Mass. She was 87. The cause was not immediately known, said Francesca James, a longtime friend who was with her when she died. Ms. Harris had a lengthy, overstuffed résumé as an actress, with dozens of movie and television credits, including the 1955 film adaptation of John Steinbeck’s novel of brotherly rivalry, “East of Eden,” in...

This is our last chance to pull the plug on an unwanted and unpopular law that promises to change America forever. We must ‘speak’ our opinion to U.S. House Speaker and Ohio 8th District Representative John Boehner, “No funding for Obamacare.” Let your voice be heard in Troy, OH on Tuesday, August 27th. Real Clear Politics average polling shows Obamacare is now opposed by a margin of 51% against to 39% in favor (link). Voters in Ohio spoke loudly against the federal government takeover of healthcare by passing the Healthcare Freedom Amendment (HFA) in 2011. The HFA won with 66%...

Americans voted twice for a big-government President, and now we’re beginning to experience the impact of big government. Are you shocked? It’s been nearly five years of the President and Congress spending future generations into the oblivion of debt, the Executive Branch securing control over huge chunks of the private economy (two car companies, multiple banks and the health care industry are only part of it), and a dramatic expansion of both the defined role, and the powers of the IRS. At this point in the Obama presidency, we the people should not be surprised by a government that has...

The Catholic Church is the longest-enduring institution in the world. Beginning with the first Christians and continuing in our present day, the Church has been planted in every nation on earth. The Catholic Church claims Jesus Christ himself as her founder, and in spite of heresy from within and hostility from without, she remains in the twenty-first century the steadfast guardian of belief in his life, death, and resurrection. The teachings and redemptive works of Jesus as told in the Gospels are expressed by the Church in a coherent and consistent body of doctrine, the likes of which cannot be...

A New York business owner was targeted by local police after they became suspicious of his store. As a result, they sent in an undercover informant on two separate occasions who ultimately hurt them a lot more than he helped. On the second visit, the informant allegedly planted and photographed crack cocaine, which led to the arrest of store owner Donald Andrews Jr. Andrews operates a “smoke shop” in Scotia that sells incense and other smoking paraphernalia that can easily be used for other illicit activities. Andrews' attorney, Kevin Luibrand, narrated a video that was shot by in-store surveillance cameras...
