My smallest concealed carry is a Smith & Wesson Bodyguard 380. By all accounts a quality pistol. In practice, though, I increasingly dislike it. The long 12-pound trigger pull prevents accurate, consistent shooting. After over a year and many hundreds of rounds, the results are all over the place. By comparison, I can place a six-inch result at 45-feet and at 21-feet, mostly in 3-inch, using either a Sig Sauer P320SC or, almost as well, with a S&W M&P Shield 40. At 21-feet, the S&W 380 Bodyguard is typically 8-12 inches. I like the smaller size of the S&W Bodyguard...

Smith & Wesson shares have surged for the second day Tuesday, driven higher by new gun control measures announced by President Obama. Shares of Smith & Wesson Holding Corp., the world's largest gunmaker, rose 12 percent Tuesday, following a nearly 6 percent gain on Monday, after news of Obama's plans to tighten U.S. gun laws was reported last week. On Monday evening, management announced that it was raising its guidance because sales had been unexpectedly strong, Business Insider reported. For the three months ending Jan. 31, Smith & Wesson estimates that it will have $175 million to $180 million in...

As gun owners know, our Muslim, Marxist President has been doing his best to take guns away from the American people. He has tried for six years to force Congress to do his bidding and violate the 2nd Amendment. To its credit Congress has pushed back, allowing the law abiding to exercise the right given them by God and protected in the Constitution. After San Bernardino, a city 30 miles from my home and the hometown of my wife, it did not take long for Democrats to respond as they always do: The killings were the fault of the guns...

Mayor Caldwell of Honolulu appears to have made the decision to destroy over half a million dollars of Smith & Wesson pistols, rather than sell them to police, police departments or to gun dealers anywhere. The mayor did not seek to gain political "credit" for the decision. The scheme was kept secret until it was leaked by whistle blowing police officers about a month ago. No credible reason was given for destroying the valuable merchandise. There is no shortage of pistol manufacturers. If the guns were sold to police or gun dealers, they would be directly competing with other...

The irony of the gun control debate is that when it seems tighter gun control policy is coming, sales spike. "[W]e experienced strong consumer demand for our firearm products following a new administration taking office in Washington, D.C. in 2009," said the management of gunmaker Smith & Wesson. That's when President Barack Obama moved into the White House. The explanation for this phenomenon is pretty simple: If there's a risk that you won't be able to buy guns in the near future, then buy your guns now.

ne sheriff's deputy shot himself in the leg while pulling out his gun to confront a suspect.. Another accidentally fired a bullet in a restroom stall. A third deputy stumbled over a stroller in a closet as he was searching for a suspect, squeezing off a round that went through a wall and lodged in a piece of furniture in the next room. Accidental gunshots by Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies have more than doubled in two years, endangering bystanders and occasionally injuring deputies. The jump coincides with the department's move to a new handgun that lacks a safety lever...

Many have speculated on the reason for the hand inside the coat pose of officers during Civil War photographs. Perhaps it was to render access to a concealed weapon. These, after all, were military officers. Is that the bulge of a Smith & Wesson #1 under his left arm? It is about the right size. The number one was one of the first easily concealable cartridge pistols. It was first produced in 1857 and was in great demand by officers in the Civil War. As a .22 short, we might not think of it as having much stopping power. ...

The progressive liberal has shown through their actions and ideology that they seek above all else, control. The very thought of individual enterprise or liberty is anathema to them as it goes against their desire for an all-powerful state to which all citizens owe their allegiance and blind faith. Of course, they'll be the ones ruling as they obviously know what is best for us common peasants. How can we expected to make decisions on our own without their benevolent guidance and wisdom? The left has many weapons in their arsenal against freedom, and one of the most potent is...

One of the nation’s largest gun manufacturers won’t sell its newest firearm in California because of a state law that requires firearms to imprint a unique stamp on bullet casings. Smith & Wesson said Thursday it would not sell a semiautomatic pistol in California because of the law, signed in 2007 by then-Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) and implemented last year. It’s the second big gun manufacturer to pull some of its products out of California in the last several months. The gun companies said the law, which requires each firearm to imprint a so-called “microstamp” on bullet casings, impose unbearable...

Tony Canales reported from the SHOT show last week that Ruger will be allowing its handguns to fall off of the California "not unsafe" firearms roster. Now we learn that Ruger isn't alone. Smith & Wesson will be allowing its M&P handguns to fall off of the roster as well.

Smith & Wesson has announced record sales for its most recent quarter. Net sales from continuing operations for the second quarter were a record $136.6 million, up 48 percent from the second quarter last year, according to a news release issued this week. It was the second consecutive quarter of record sales. The company employs more than 1,200 workers at its factory and headquarters on Roosevelt Avenue. Federal background checks for gun purchasers were up over Black Friday. Many observers say that's because gun buyers fear that a re-elected President Barack Obama will impose more gun restrictions. But Smith &...

The attached chart of Smith & Wesson revenues needs no comment. Well one comment: when the final bubble does pop (and here we make the wild assumption that no intelligent extraterrestrial life will be found to bail out the central banks in time), at least everyone will be locked and loaded. And some highlights from the just released investor presentation: Record-level quarterly sales growth from continuing ops of $136.0M, +48.3% Y/Y Record-level quarterly income from continuing ops of $18.9M, or $0.28 per diluted share Record Adjusted Non-GAAP EBITDAS of $36.1 Million Raised Full Year Fiscal 2013 Financial Guidance Exceeded high...

That being said, every once in awhile I stumble onto certain investment opportunities that fall outside these two realms. Recently it has become apparent that one such opportunity is in full swing, and that is in the world of firearms manufacturing. We are not talking about the military industries, but more the firearms made for the general public. Like them or hate them, one cannot argue that an investment in guns and the companies that manufacture them are making investors very happy. To validate the claim, consider the following two companies and their current stock prices.

Good video by Hickok45 shooting the Smith & Wesson .44 Magnum of "Dirty Harry" fame. Hickok45's videos are usually entertaining, informative and he is also an excellent shooter. For those of you who are not shooters or don't wish to improve your knowledge of shooting and firearms, you'd probably just be bored... :)

I was wondering what were some good guns for someone who is just getting into the hobby. I am wondering what the ideal caliber is and what is better (pistol, revolver, rifle, shotgun etc.) Also I am wondering if anyone has tried the Smith & Wesson M&P1515 rifles.
