Texas Democratic politicians, such as Rep. Joaquin Castro and failed gubernatorial and Senate candidate Beto O’Rourke, are urging President Joe Biden to seize control of the Texas National Guard, which Republican Gov. Greg Abbott has mobilized to help secure the Texas border. Abbott did so in the face of the deliberate and intentional inaction by the Biden administration to make sure the border stays open so millions of illegal aliens could continue to flood across from Mexico. Under the circumstances, any such move by the president would be an abuse of the applicable law. A number of federal statutes govern...

House Republicans announced two articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas Sunday, accusing him of failing to do his job by allowing thousands of asylum seekers to enter the country amid record-breaking illegal crossings. The articles accuse Mayorkas of willful and systemic refusal to comply with the law and breach of public trust. The House Homeland Security Committee is expected to approve the charges at a Tuesday hearing and House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) vowed Friday to hold a floor vote “as soon as possible.” Mayorkas, 64, would be the second Cabinet secretary in US history to be...

President Biden is in a pickle of his own making, and his efforts to deal with it are as idiotic and destructive as his open borders policy has been. Last month alone over 300,000 mostly military age men illegally crossed our border, with the Border Patrol tasked to easing their invasion and even making them sandwiches rather than detaining and deporting them. Texas governor Greg Abbott directed his National Guard to obstruct their passage by placing floats in the river at the border and installing barbed wire topped fences at Shelby Park in Eagle Pass, Texas. He also spread the...

A constitutional crisis looms as states like Texas have taken it upon themselves to enforce our nation's immigration laws and protect our country from invasion. Earlier this week, the Biden administration demanded Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton give Border Patrol access to a city park on the Rio Grande riverfront, but the Texas National Guard continued to defend the state of Texas and, indeed, the United States, despite those threats. Since then, Joe Biden has been under pressure from the left to federalize the Texas National Guard so they can’t block U.S. Customs and Border Patrol from removing razor wire...

President Joe Biden and his deputies are using the unfinished and unreleased draft border deal as political cover for their continued refusal to guard the nation’s border during the 2024 election campaign. “What’s been negotiated would – if passed into law – be the toughest and fairest set of reforms to secure the border we’ve ever had in our country,” Biden said in a statement Friday night. “It would give me, as President, a new emergency authority to shut down the border when it becomes overwhelmed. And if given that authority, I would use it the day I sign the...

“Well, first, I’d be shocked. That would be a boneheaded move on his part—total disaster,” Governor Abbott said. “ ... “Whatever we’ve been building, the Biden administration is now trying to attack us because of it, and we will continue to do exactly what we’re doing to expand our denial of illegal entry into the state of Texas.” Gov. Abbott pointed out that state forces were already operating at the border and that he expects more forces to come to Texas from other state National Guards. “There’ve been about ten [states] so far that have sent National Guard or other...

Is there going to be a major confrontation on the border following Joe Biden's ultimatum that Texas National Guard forces be removed from Shelby Park and other "disputed" areas? Not if the rank-and-file of the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol have anything to say about it. According to a new post put out by the Border Patrol Union, and a new report from Griff Jenkins of Fox News, Biden has lost operational control of the situation, at least in a practical sense. Border Patrol Union - NBPC @BPUnion Rank-and file BP agents are not going to start arresting TX NG...

President Biden said Friday that he would use new emergency authorities to “shut down the border when it becomes overwhelmed” if Congress passes a bipartisan immigration plan that the Senate has been negotiating...

@ThomasEWoods Texas is in the right constitutionally (in case that still matters to anybody). I've heard some people say this: since immigration per se is not mentioned in the Constitution (although naturalization is), then the relevant power rests with the states. Such people proceed to deploy this argument in defense of so-called "sanctuary cities." But if that argument can defend sanctuary cities, it can also and to the same extent defend the Texas move to try to staunch the flow of illegals coming through the southern border. What's good for the goose is good for the gander, after all. Now...

Down in Eagle Pass, Texas, is a 47-acre public park which sits on the Rio Grande and the U.S.-Mexico border. It’s called Shelby Park. And recently the state of Texas decided that it was going to take control of the section of border running through Shelby Park. The state of Texas directed the Texas National Guard and state troopers from both Texas and Florida (lol) to harden the border in Shelby Park. But also to take control of access to the park, which is now surrounded by fencing and razor wire. Why? To keep out federal officials. When members of...

Something I did not know and I suspect many do not know, but it is NOT the National Guard at the Southern border but the state of Texas's own military! Texas has a military branch not connected with the Federal Government.

Abbott knows Texas has a constitutional right to defend itself against the 10 million illegal migrants who took advantage of the open border.More than two dozen states expressed support for Texas Gov. Greg Abbott after he refused to kowtow to the Biden administration’s bullying about the ongoing border crisis. The Supreme Court ruled on Jan. 22 that the federal border officials could cut razor wire installed by the Texas National Guard along the Rio Grande if they felt it impeded their ability to do their jobs. Abbott announced on Wednesday, Jan. 24, that he would uphold the law by allowing his...

Former President Donald Trump posted to his Truth Social account that he is encouraging all "willing states to deploy their [national guard] to Texas to prevent to entry" of illegal immigrants. Trump made the call to do so after Texas Gov. Gregg Abbot declared an invasion and invoked Texas' right to "self-defense" in the First Article of the Constitution. At least 14 states have signaled supporting Texas in its efforts.

On Wednesday, Representative Joaquin Castro (D-TX) called on President Biden to "seize" the Texas National Guard by calling them into Federal service, removing them from the command and control of the State of Texas. This is presumably in response to Texas Governor Greg Abbott's defiant tone towards the Biden Administration on closing the border. A Texas congressman has urged President Biden to take the state's National Guard under federal control if Republican Governor Greg Abbott defies a Supreme Court ruling allowing federal agents to remove razor wire from a section of the U.S.-Mexico border. The call was made by Democratic...

"This is not over," pledged Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott in a post on X earlier this week after the Supreme Court sided with the Biden administration on an emergency appeal order allowing federal agents to dismantle razor wire installed by Texas at the Mexican border. "Texas' razor wire is an effective deterrent to the illegal crossings Biden encourages," Abbott reiterated, correctly contrasting Texas' efforts to do the work of securing the border abdicated by the federal government with the Biden administration's policies that have intentionally incentivized and made it easier for illegal immigrants to enter and be released into...

Governor Greg Abbott today issued a statement on Texas’ constitutional right to defend and protect itself as President Joe Biden continues to attack Texas and refuse to perform his duties to secure the border.“The Executive Branch of the United States has a constitutional duty to enforce federal laws protecting States, including immigration laws on the books right now,” reads the statement. “President Biden has instructed his agencies to ignore federal statutes that mandate the detention of illegal immigrants. The failure of the Biden Administration to fulfill the duties imposed by Article IV, § 4 has triggered Article I, § 10,...

EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is pushing back and adding more razor wire to the border fence after Monday's Supreme Court ruling that the border patrol can remove the wire along the southern border. So far, the border patrol in the borderland has not cut down any of the razor wire. In the meantime, Abbott says he won’t back down despite the Supreme Court’s ruling, and for now, plans to continue to secure the border however he wants to. “What Governor Abbott is doing is not just unconstitutional, and it’s not just harmful to very vulnerable...
