Former President Barack Obama said Tuesday on “CBS Mornings” that the United States was allowing our children’s lives to be at risk because gun ownership has become a partisan issue. Host Nate Burelson asked, “Gun violence is the number one cause of death for children in this country. What is the radical solution? And do you believe there is a larger issue at hand that causes fractures among us in this country?” Obama said, “We are unique among advanced, developed nations, in tolerating on a routine basis, gun violence in the form of shootings, mass shootings, suicides. You know in...

As mass shootings become an almost ever-present part of the news cycle, the Supreme Court is expected to issue a ruling on a case any day now which “could legalize assault weapons and high-capacity magazines in all 50 states.” In the case in question, National Association for Gun Rights v. City of Naperville, a gun shop owner and a gun rights group have claimed that two Illinois statutes “violate the Second Amendment,” and now it’s on the shadow docket for the Supreme Court. But what exactly is the shadow docket? In a nutshell, the high court takes cases on either...

Texas state legislators voted to advance a bill that would raise the legal age to buy certain semi-automatic rifles from 18 years old to 21 years old on Monday. HB 2744 passed with a vote of 8-5. The vote came two days after a mass shooting at a mall killed eight people, including children. Protesters, including families of Uvalde shooting victims, had filled the statehouse to support...

Political commentator Roland Martin said Sunday on MSNBC’s “Velshi” that Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) is “sick and demented’ while discussing the mass shooting Saturday in Allen, TX. Guest host Michael Steele said, “You would think after a mass shooting like this, lawmakers in the state where it happened would take stock or work on policy changes to the secretary’s point to prevent it from happening again. But that’s not what happens in Texas. What do we do here? How do we break this cycle? It’s not like every two weeks, my friend. It’s like every other day we’re having these...

Is United Nations Geneva trying to tell us somethin’? Heh. Hey man, we all ‘typo’ when we tweet … it happens. And we’ve seen some silly gun-grabbing tweets but this one? WOOF and YIKES all in one. If you’re tweeting for say some very large even GLOBAL organization you might want to double-check what your tweet says beyond just spellcheck. Not to mention hashtags are a different beast entirely so check, check, and check again. They tweeted this in response to the Allen, TX shooting (and it was up for several hours): Why is the UN promoting #IncestInPeace? Incest? pic.twitter.com/TDOYDkXqzZ...

According to an April report released by watchdog group OpenTheBooks.com, the Internal Revenue Service has spent $10 million since 2020 on guns, ammunition, and other tactical gear in an effort to militarize the agency. The report revealed that the IRS and 102 other agencies outside the Department of Defense invested a combined total of $3.7 billion since 2006 – adjusted for inflation – on weapons, ammunition, and military-style equipment. OpenTheBooks.com stated that 76 of the 102 are rank-and-file regulatory agencies, such as the Environmental Protection Agency, Social Security Administration, Veterans Affairs, and Health and Human Services. “There are now more...

U.S.A. — In the United States District Court for the Southern District of Illinois, in the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, Federal Judge Stephen P. McGlynn has issued a well-reasoned and argued opinion covering several challenges to the “Protect Illinois Communities Act” (PICA). The opinion puts in place a temporary injunction against the enforcement of PICA.PICA bans the ownership of over 190 models of firearms and criminalizes the possession of magazines that hold over 10 rounds, among other things. Judge McGlynn filed the opinion on April 28, 2023. The opinion is straightforward. In the fifth paragraph, after describing the events...

The History of Bans on Types of Arms Before 1900, by David Kopel and Joseph Greenlee, Law review article, 165 pages, 2021. The Supreme Court, in the seminal Bruen decision, held: once the clear text of the Second Amendment is implicated, the burden falls on the government to prove there were widespread and accepted statutory restraints in history which are very similar to the restraints the government is defending. The law review article by Kopel and Greenlee is the most comprehensive compilation of the laws on ownership and regulation of arms from medieval England through 1900, especially on weapons bans, yet...

Video at https://twitter.com/DrLoupis/status/1640739808543662080Last Friday, a transgender woman from Colorado who posted a video loading an AR-15 after a conservative extremist called for eradicating “transgenderism” was fired from her federal job. Kayla Denker says sacking her from her job exemplifies a double standard where right-wingers can pose with guns, but transgender women cannot. A video of Denker went viral in March. The 36-year-old is holding a legally purchased AR-15 long gun. She repeatedly racks the weapon and shows off the loaded clip. “While advocating for trans people to ‘arm ourselves’ is not any kind of a solution to the genocide we...

Let’s face it: Many armed Americans are deathly — and irrationally — afraid of others. And so they have become a menace to the rest of us. According to a 2021 Gallup Poll, as many as 88 percent of gun owners are apparently terrified of being harmed, since they say the guns are for self-defense. Yet very, very few gun owners end up defending themselves and their families from the sort of random crime they fear. According to The Trace, fewer than 3 percent of gun owners ever use a weapon in self-defense, and apparently some of those involve misrepresentation...

While many find it inexplicable that the FBI would be investing so much effort to monitor the activities going on in America's churches, Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va) does not. "Let me remind those ignorant of history that this isn't the first time that Christians have posed a serious challenge to government authority," Kaine said. "Two thousand years ago they were active spreaders of disinformation and disloyalty toward those responsible for maintaining public order. Their chief agitator was so disruptive that it was necessary to make an example of him. But his followers were so fanatical that they remained undeterred and...

CNN anchor Don Lemon abruptly ended a segment with Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy after a tense back-and-forth about gun rights and black Americans. What happened? During an interview on "CNN This Morning," co-host Poppy Harlow asked Ramaswamy about his speech last week at the NRA convention. In that speech, Ramaswamy connected gun control laws and the campaign to oppress black Americans after the Civil War. We fought a civil war in this country to give black Americans the equal protection under the law that we failed to secure them in 1776. But then, you want to know what happened?...

DENVER (AP) — Colorado Democratic lawmakers killed an ambitious bill Thursday that would have banned the sale and transfer of semiautomatic firearms, citing promises made to their constituents and concerns over the sweep of the ban even in a state still reeling from a mass shooting in Colorado Springs months earlier. Washington state's Democratic-controlled Statehouse cleared a ban on semiautomatic rifles Wednesday, joining the blue bastions of California and New York. But Colorado's Democratic-controlled Legislature was split on the issue, underscoring the state's purple roots, tensions between urban and rural constituents, and an ongoing push-and-pull between progressive and moderate Democrats...

Last we heard from Harvard’s David Hogg, he was working on a paper on the Second Amendment for his constitutional law class. He’ll probably get an A+ for the same reason Harvard granted him admission over much more gifted young people. Hogg’s takes on the Second Amendment are universally terrible, but Keith Olbermann got triggered by a tweet Thursday that led him to lay down the hammer on gun ownership. House Judiciary GOP @JudiciaryGOP #BREAKING: The Judiciary Committee just voted to repeal the ATF’s unconstitutional ban on pistol braces. Big win for the Second Amendment. 1:10 AM · Apr 20,...

A Colorado House committee on Wednesday began an estimated 12 hours of testimony from approximately 500 witnesses who registered to testify on a bill that would ban the sale of so-called assault weapons in the state. House Bill 23-1230 would prohibit the manufacturing, importing, purchasing, selling or transferring ownership of an assault weapon. It also would prohibit a person from possessing a rapid-fire trigger activator. Individuals, gun show vendors and licensed firearms dealers would face civil penalties for violating the law. The bill also would make it a misdemeanor offense to possess, manufacture, import, purchase, sell, offer to sell or...

The Nebraska Legislature passed LB77, the Constitutional Carry bill today at 11:28. The vote was 33 to 14 for the third cloture vote. Each closure vote requires 33 votes to move the legislation forward. Nebraska Governor (R) Jim Pillen has said he will sign the bill. Nebraska will be the 26th state to restore Constitutional Carry. Florida has enacted permitless carry. There are 27 permitless carry states. All Constitutional Carry states have permitless carry, but Florida does not allow general open carry, so is not a true Constitutional Carry state.

Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee spent Monday’s Manhattan field hearing blaming guns, not people, for crime. Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee spent Monday’s Manhattan field hearing blaming guns, not the criminals behind them, for the nation’s crime epidemic. The committee held a field hearing in Manhattan as New York City deteriorates from an American centerpiece of capital ingenuity into a treacherous urban jungle where far-left prosecutors allow criminals to control the streets. “Today’s hearing is about the administration of justice, and keeping communities safe, something that has always been a central focus of the House Judiciary Committee,” opened...

from Pew Research: You are five times more likely to be murdered with a knife vs. a rifle. More than half of all firearm deaths are due to suicide. In countries where firearms are banned/outlawed, the number of knife deaths skyrockets. (It’s not a firearm problem; it’s a people problem.) The U.S. has the highest rate of firearm ownership, yet ranks 28th in the world for firearm deaths. Cities with the strictest firearm laws also have the highest firearm crime rate. As for the 2nd Amendment: You seem to have ignored the part about “shall not be infringed.” And militia...
